We had horrible storms last night and I made sure I took pictures of these beauties in case they wouldn’t survive. (They did just fyi). These beauties were purchased during the #pandemic. I needed SOMETHING. I needed a win. Our #dance studio was losing students who didn’t want to zoom which I get but also not… cause what else was there to do at home? Plus I witnessed amazing strides from the screen with our students of all ages. It was remarkable. We also personally had zero luck with #iuis at home. The good ole turkey Baster just was not working. Medicated. Unmedicated. In office. At home. In office again. What people don’t understand is a vial of sperm from a reputable #Cryobank shout out to @cryobank is about $1500-$2000 a pop and each in office go was about $350 with an OBGYN NOT covered by insurance. We were bleeding money and had one chemical before switching to #ivf. What I felt like I could control in our world that had everything not able to be controlled was my hair (I cut it) and my garden. These babies were and are such a symbol of a hard time that we overcame. Will get into the iui stories (there’s some doozies) and the ivf journey (also so doozies) but til then… these #garden #rose babies are not “just any ole roses”. And good and bad…. I haven't been reviewing other books I read (and enjoy). I will hopefully be doing this more often. I was nervous to try this book as I heard SO many mixed reviews, but I'm glad I listened to my gut on this one. It was so very creepy and was honestly a quick read. Honestly I wish I had bought the book instead of borrowing it from the library, but it did save me money. The best way I can describe this book is to say it's like a mix of The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, and the Alfred Hitchcock movie The Birds. And it's all set during an isolation induced pandemic like COVID but one that turns people crazy if they look in each other's eyes. It was fascinating. The psychological aspect was my favorite part. There was some gore and some (unaliving). "Physical activity and sleep changes among children during the COVID-19 pandemic" 👉 The study examined differences in #physical activity levels and #sleep patterns in #children with #obesity before, during, and after the closure of schools and extracurricular activities due to the COVID-19 #pandemic. Data were collected from #94 children with obesity using activity tracker wristbands (Garmin VivoFit 3). During the closure period, children experienced decreases in physical activity and sleep duration. However, with the resumption of in-person activities, step counts increased. These findings highlight the importance of in-person daily activities and routines for maintaining #healthy behaviors, especially in children with obesity. Dear parents, Parent Village is a passion project and I have wanted to grow this space on IG for a while, but I have spent the past many months in stuckness. Here are some aspects of my #neurodivergence that have made diciplined posting difficult: decision overwhelm #perfectionism mental exhaustion big feelings #shutdowns demand avoidance energetic 'sucks' worldly #grief I also acknowledge that the list above rests on an internal climate of #burnout (long standing shutdown state) out of which I am slowly emerging, owing to a massive labor of love coauthoring ' #Parenting at the Intersections' amidst a #pandemic and big life stressors. Breaking down what has been hard has been a helpful exercise, as it helps remind me to hold myself with #compassion and gentleness. In a rushed world full of quick fixes, I am learning to embrace and celebrate my 'slow' - to be grateful for the flow when it emerges, for the trust I hold in myself when it doesn't (that this too shall pass and the flow will emerge at the right time) and for all my neurodivergent quirks that make me, me. And in celebrating me, I celebrate all the neurodivergent folx in the world, especially neurodivergent parents out there who resonate with my experience. 💖 Priya. ps.
