May is always a big month for me. It's not only AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) Heritage Month. Surprise! I'm a secret Asian. Not so secret, I let people know they just don't want to believe me until I show them photos of my family. Biracial people exist, silly. It's also pre-eclampsia and HELLP Syndrome Awareness Month. I don't have cancer, but this is sorta like cancer as I'll have to live with it the rest of my life. I got it during pregnancy. It forced my daughter to be born three months early. She had a couple of months NICU stay, I fought with the trying to stay alive before and after the removed her by emergency cesarean. Luckily for us, she only needed a blood transfusion, and I got off with liver and thyroid damage. The alternative was death for both of us. Even though my case is rare, it's nice to have this information out there for women who are interested in having kids. She's my miracle baby and the only one I'll be able to have. What do you think? I actually DON'T think it's sustainable to enjoy every moment. When my kids were babies, I think I was trying to sustain a level of presence and awareness that was... superhuman and unsustainable. Yes baby-hood is beautiful and wonderful and life-altering. And also... being a soul-level human means actually embracing that being human is the whole point of the journey. And some of those moments were just... HARD. And heartbreaking. And if we only look at our life from the lens of full soul-level presence and forget the human part, we forget to have grace for ourselves in the trenches. So maybe the lesson is... Take a deep breath. Be with the experience. Give yourself the grace you need. Adjust your focus as needed. 🌟School 2024 🌟 Such a mix of emotions last week finding out which school the boys will go to. I’m so proud of them and so in awe of the little people they’ve become, but there’s a huge part of me that just doesn’t want to let go of my little babies yet! I can’t believe that in a few short months they’ll be off to school. I know they’re ready and I know they’ll love it, but I’m also a teeny bit jealous of those other Covid mummies that get to keep their littles at home for another year! The boys will be 4 in July and start school in September being some of the youngest there, whereas if they’d been born 2 days after their due date (28th August) they wouldn’t be going to school until 2025! It blows my mind that just a few weeks can make a years difference!
