Today, we're going to explore body scan meditation, a practice that involves bringing mindful awareness to different parts of the body. Explanation of Body Scan Meditation: "Body scan meditation is a technique that helps us tune into physical sensations and cultivate present-moment awareness throughout the body. By systematically scanning through each part of the body, we can release tension, promote relaxation, and deepen our connection with ourselves." Preparing for Practice: "Find a comfortable lying position on your back, either on a yoga mat or a comfortable surface. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relax your body and mind." Guided Body Scan: "Begin by bringing your attention to the top of your head. Notice any sensations, tension, or areas of discomfort in this area. Take a few breaths to relax and release any tension you may be holding." "Slowly move your attention down to your forehead and face. Notice any sensations in your forehead, temples, eyes, cheeks, and jaw. Allow any tension to soften and dissolve with each exhale." "Continue to scan through each part of your body, moving down to your neck, shoulders, arms, hands, chest, abdomen, pelvis, thighs, knees, calves, ankles, and feet. With each part, observe any sensations with an attitude of curiosity and acceptance." "If you encounter areas of tension or discomfort, breathe into those areas and visualize them softening and releasing with each breath. Allow yourself to fully relax into the support beneath you." It’s World Meditation Day 🧘🏼⁠ ⁠ Of course at Four Square Mindfulness we would celebrate this very special day. Meditation is at the heart of all we do and all we offer you. Meditation, as you know, is an ancient practice of sitting and centering on your inner landscape that helps to calm and focus your mind. Mindfulness is a series of practices that create and support a habit of doing this in our daily lives.⁠ ⁠ However, sitting isn’t the only way you can practice. We can meditate and be mindful while walking, eating, drinking our morning coffee or tea, washing dishes, and so many more of our daily activities.
