Congrats to me for becoming a Grit coach and thank you to my support system, the amazing Grit Gang 🦾🥂🎉💐💝 Over a decade ago, sports used to be non-existant in my life until I went to a Sh’bam class with the incredible @shbetty_ A couple of years later, I gathered up all my courage & tried out the hardest class at the gym. I started out being so scared before every Grit class, but got addicted to that post-workout feel quite quickly. And I got so hooked to how quickly I could surpass my boundaries & become so much better. Work Hard - Reap Results 🏀🏋🏽‍♂️ I’ve had the pleasure of working with Sun & Shug for the last 3 years now - mainly in a group setting. More recently, we’ve begun to work more consistently on a 1 on 1 basis to really get closer to their physical goals. One of those goals was to improve their athleticism and jumping ability. I’ve been very transparent with their father and them in that this isn’t a sprint. I don’t want to chase a higher vertical number and forget about their longevity and all the other factors that play into their athleticism on the court. Over the last 5-6 weeks, we’ve included a minimal amount of plyometric volume and have emphasized improving their ankle and hip strength/coordination. The improvements you see above in “RSI” is in their reactive strenght index. RSI has been established as a measure of explosive strength and demonstrates how athletes perform plyometric activities. It is a simple ratio involving two metrics: How high can you jump? How fast can you jump? This is just the start to the summer. Miles to go before next years school season. I think it’s important that parents and athletes understand the long game. Det finns ett fundamentalt samband mellan styrka och explosivitet. Styrketräning är därför grundläggande om målsättningen är att bli snabbare och mer explosiv. Med det sagt är styrketräning som enskild metod otillräcklig om du vill optimera din explosivitet. 18st juniorer på elitnivå i Norge utförde ett antal fystester, bland annat knäböj och sprinttest på is. Därefter delades spelarna in i två grupper. Grupp 1️⃣ tränade styrketräning + bålträning Grupp 2️⃣ tränade styrketräning + plyo (hoppträning) Styrketräningsprogrammet pågick i åtta veckor och bestod av klassiska övningar så som frivändning, knäböj och utfall. Den plyometriska träningen bestod av tre övningar och utfördes tre gånger i veckan. Övningarna var: - Stående längdhopp - Skridskohopp 45° (snett fram) - Skridskohopp 90° (sida till sida) Efter träningsperioden utfördes samma fystester. Vad blev resultatet? 🤔 Båda grupperna ökade sin styrka i knäböj, utan någon skillnad mellan grupperna. Cet aspect est peut être l’un des plus sous estimés ! Une Ferrari sans frein, c’est inutile. C’est pour cela que je commence généralement les premiers cycles des programmes individualisés par un bloc autour du travail de décélération. En salle mais aussi sur terrain avec des exercices spécifiques et tout aussi important. 🍩 Saturday mornings are for donuts and coffee! ⚡️This post is inspired by a huge uptick in the popularity of people performing loaded spinal flexion tasks, training into knee valgus, performing explosive movements tasks with poor quality, and confusing the general population about what good training should actually look like. “Where do I start?”. “Do I stop doing basic strength stuff now and focus on end-range and positional strength so I can stay injury-free?”. “Does my movement even really matter at all - or can I just start slowly loading it and build capacity regardless of how I move?” Preface: loaded spinal flexion is fine. Training into knee valgus is fine. I SPRINKLE it into my own training myself. I don’t think it’s inherently dangerous if the load doesn’t exceed capacity, and there is a lot more that goes into injury than trying to predict it solely based on movement. BUT, good movement still matters! Athletes usually have a good understanding of what ‘good’ movement looks and feels like. General population does not. ‘Good’ movement puts us into positions to maximally express force and power. It puts us into positions to maximally express motor control and range of motion. Case in point: slouch over and try some shoulder external rotation. Pretty limited, huh? If you’re confused with where to start with your training with all of the information overload online, start here. Get a feel for what squat should feel like. Get a feel for the posterior weight shift required for a deadlift. Get a feel for 1/2 kneeling and tall kneeling positions. Get a feel for proper scapulothoracic rhythm with horizontal push and pull movements. Get a feel for how the shoulder should move on the ribcage. Get a feel for core positioning with different movements, including overhead. Get a feel for keeping the shoulders, hips, knees and feet square in bilateral and unilateral movements. Get a feel for three points of contact at the foot. Good movement still matters - and if you’re new to training, THIS is where you should be starting if peak performance is your goal. Once you build your donut, then you can decorate.

Flex 💪 It, Feel Good, Filter Free, FU*K YEAH, it's FriYay! Friday, Week 1 (DONE ✔️ ), day 5, @bodi @morningmeltdown100 , FIGHT NIGHT, with @jerichomcmatthews . Today was a mix of boxing some, I guess you'd call it martial arts and a hint of plyometric cardio. No weights, just constant movement. And a little bit of an aggression release, too. We did kicks, jumps, punches, rotations, etc.. you could really feel the burn through your core and legs. With the warm-up and cooldown, this workout was about 26 minutes long. A good mental release along with a sweat is always a GREAT way to end the week. So we made it through week 1 and into the 1st rest weekend of the program. This weekend also is MOTHERS DAY on Sunday. Any big plans with your families for you or you for your mama? I never get to plan anything for my mama. I just get to follow wherever she is and make sure I'm there. That usually means driving 2-3 hours to go have brunch. I make my kids come along too, and that's my Mother's Day. It's not ideal. it's not my favorite, but it's what my da.. I mean, mom wants, so I do it because I love her and want to make sure she knows how appreciated and loved she is, even if all I'm doing is making a drive. I hope you mama's feel the love and you all are doing something, no matter how big or small for your mama's too! They all deserve it more than we acknowledge. Being a mom is the most rewarding thankless job out there, so make the time and take time to acknowledge yours and show her how loved and appreciated she is! “Testing is training and training is testing” is something that gets thrown around a lot in strength and conditioning circles. I think we can all agree that your training should improve performance on the tests that you find valuable. However, it is important to determine whether your performance improved due to your training or if performance improved because you simply got better at the technique of the test. The tests coaches use to assess performance don’t usually look like the sport but they give a good indication that some quality important to the sport has improved. However, if you want a true measure of how your training impacts performance on a test you might want to consider not having the exact test in your training. This way you can be sure that improvement was based on your programming and building up certain qualities vs simply improving because you’ve mastered the test. It’s like going into an exam with the answers already vs going in and performing well because you took the time to understand the topic. Side note: There are certain tests that will have to show up consistently in your training. Sprinting is one that comes to mind. This concept also doesn’t apply to sports like powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting. In those instances the gym is quite literally your sport practice. Some good for thought.
