Finally getting to share my Beautyberry post. If anyone remembers I started a 29 day meditation with a Beautyberry back in January and never got around to posting about it. I went on a hike Friday on some trails that were new to me. Every time I came to a fork in the trail, or stopped to admire something I noticed Beautyberry was always there. Every time. It was as if she was leading me through the woods and introducing me to some other native plants. I’m sorry that there isn’t a lot about the actual meditative experience in this one. Beautyberry was just way too personal. I expect to have more to say about Basil though. Thank you all for taking the time to see this. We had a beautiful evening on Tuesday @thehealinghubmarketharborough connecting with the plant spirit of Vervain (Verbena officinalis). It was such a joy to share the medicine of this plant as she is so special to me. She works quite subtly to help us process our emotions and any old traumas held within us. She holds our hand and encourages us to soften and expand to allow her love and healing into our being and let go of the old emotional debris. The first time I experienced Vervain in a tincture was when I was at University and I felt all of the blood drain out of my head and went slightly into shock. Andrew Stableford our treasured teacher and mentor quickly added some Cinnamon to the mix and asked me to take it again. I felt the life come back to my being and I have been forever changed since. It helped me to work though a great deal of emotional baggage that I had been carrying and gave me so much love and joy in the process. My heart began to open again after that and I even started to wear pink on Andrews suggestion (a colour I previously abhorred). I think she helped me to fully embrace the divine feminine within and I am forever grateful. Twilight is a liminal time of day and I am so happy to be offering: Twilight Meditation session in the meadow at the Potting Shed next Thursday 25th evening from 7-9pm. We will connect with mindfulness and breath, with a walking meditation also known as Zazen in the Zen tradition, or what I like to call 'walking with the Sacred' and a guided plant spirit journey to make connections with the spiritual realm. My Journey to Mama Cacao I found her in a cave emerging as a Goddess, surrounded by ruby jewels, dressed in a beautiful red dress voluptuous with a crown. She was opening with kindness and receiving. The red was the femininity, the bloodline, the fertility of her medicine, the nutrition flowing from the heart centre. Her smile, sensual and warm, magnetically inviting her guests and captivating them to sit with her feminine gaze. All was softness and opening to her presence. I saw her ladle out the cacao with a love and generosity and purpose as though she were building a mountain. She was serving everyone who gathered, pouring cups and sending an aura of love to everyone who was seated in her presence. She was powerful. The hearts of each person connecting as her essence dissolved into love to become the connection between each person. Each person was connecting, receiving and being nourished. We will begin with an opening circle of introductions and offerings to the land and the ancestors that shared this medicine with us. I teach about wild plants with the conservation of them close to my heart. We discuss safe harvesting/or no harvesting practices. Come meet the plants you may call "weeds" that European ancestrors used in Europe and brought here, often accidentally. Some of them probably also grow right in your backyard! I’m enjoying taking time this week to sit with yarrow, growing wild as it is all around the grassy fields here. Yarrow is a deep healer on every level. Physically it balances the flow of blood, increasing movement where there is stagnation and stemming bleeding where there are wounds or bruises. It is a bitter tonic, astringent, and vulnerary (tissue healing) too and moving through the blood as it does means it can touch every tissue in the body, which brings a long list of possible uses. I tend to come to yarrow most often for balancing menstrual flow, and for depleted or inflamed digestions. Yarrow heals emotionally and energetically too, and has a way of reaching into the older, more forgotten places and attending the wounds we conceal or protect there. Replanted a guava tree this afternoon into lush soil that is alive with a variety of insect beings. For the first time, I am dreaming with a plant. English plantain is growing here, and I see a young woman with enormous wings sprouting from her shoulders. Somehow I know she is the plantain spirit. I approach her and introduce myself. She asks why I have come. “First of all,” I reply, “I want to thank you for the help you have given my friends and me over the years. Your leaves have healed many wounds. I come to you to ask for another kind of help, a deeper kind. The cuts and scrapes of my people are nothing compared to the pain in our hearts and the pollution in our minds. Can you help relieve this kind of suffering too?” The plantain woman hops off her leaf and flies close to me. For a moment she hovers in front of my face and looks intently into my eyes. Today I made 10 new flower essences, including cucumber blossom. I didn't intend to make this essence, but my attention kept being drawn to the flowers. When I looked up the meaning, it made total sense. According to @greenhopefarm cucumber flower essence helps with resolving depression. "Water symbolically represents the emotional body where emotions including depression are seated. Cucumber's thirst quenching fruit is a masterful use of water. It reminds us that watery emotion, even a flood of depression, can be transformed and renewed into something beautiful that serves and sustains our growth. Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) Water has been such a huge part of my support system this Summer as I mentioned in my last post where I shared my new mantra "Flow like water and carve your own path". As we've approached this full moon, lots of buried irritations and anger have been surfacing, not only for myself but those around me as well, and there have been times this past week where we've needed some help going with the emotional flow. So the significance of me returning home to my marshmallow plant in full bloom has not been lost on me. Nature knows. I spent time journeying with my newly made flower essence today, and I wanted to share some of what this beauty expressed to me. "I want to help you flow fluid in time with the pulse of your own emotions. Free to flow. I smooth the way for emotion to flow." During the journey, I saw myself floating peacefully in the water. I had the sense that I could feel annoyance, irritation, or even anger, but it wouldn't linger. I felt too joyful, peaceful, and content to allow those feelings to stagnate. I felt like I could breathe easy without always being worried about whether or not I'd experience a "negative" emotion. I heard myself saying, "I don't need to worry about whether I'll be angry or not. If I will, then it will come and it will quickly go." If a gently moving stream could become a flower, it would be marshmallow.
