The journey has begun for our 2024 cohorts and our spring gatherings were nothing short of magical ✨ 'We're all speechless. You can just feel all the love that's gone into this.' 'It felt like I was coming home.' Intentions were set with each participant choosing from our 12 course herbs and placing them in the wooden engraved basket before receiving what can only be described as a very large box of goodies. I'll leave its contents to your imagination (some things have to be saved for the experience!), but I will divulge they included the beautiful course book everyone will be shaping into their own herbal heirloom over the coming seasons. Want to know more of the magical details and keep up with this year’s intensive herbalism course cohorts as they embark on their journey? The tastes of herbs are baked into your bones The fascinating thing about taste is you don’t need to know what each taste ‘does’ at the top of your mind for a herb with that taste to have an effect on your body. You do if you want to create a herbal remedy or are working on something specific, but your body never lost that knowledge - your mother’s body, your grandmother’s body, all the way back to the earliest humans - you never lost that knowledge. It’s baked into your bones. This is why we’re not so much ‘learning’ herbal medicine as remembering herbalism, remembering our ancestral knowledge, remembering how to allow our bodies - part of nature - to heal. Want more of this conversation? Listen to my podcast interview with Brighid Doherty @solidagoherbschool on The Healthy Herb Podcast. Just pop to the podcast interview playlist link in my bio, where you'll get so much more nourishing knowledge. Happy International Herb Day🌱🌿💚 It feels like I've done this thousands of times, for thousands of years 💫 The memories that float around me while I'm out gathering food and medicine from the wilderness are ancient. 🌿 An older way of living that echoes through my bones and reverberates through my blood. A magnetic memory of living in the folds of Gaia's shawl, of being taken care of by the Earth in every way 🌿🌲🌾 It's this bone deep ancestral memory that pulls me to the land in this way, that heeds the call of the wild plants in this way. I know surer than anything that this is right - that this is why I'm here today. To gather the gifts from the land and continue on the prayers that my ancestors began. 🌿✨🙏🏽✨🌿 #internationalherbday2024 #internationalherbday #evolutionaryherbalism #astroherbalism #medicalastrology #astrology #birthchart #herbalism #plantmedicine #alchemy #plantpath #herbalist #herbalmedicine #herbstudent

𝐈𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐲? 🌿 :: If you’ve ever Googled an herb to learn more and saw lots of research papers about it, can you really trust them? Herbal research is tricky since there are a lot of things that can go wrong and right with them that make the results tricky to decipher. Even though understanding herbal research isn’t 100% necessary as a clinical herbalist, it can introduce novel uses of plants, and of course, knowing the chemistry of an herbal makes you a much better medicine maker. With a few pointers, you can learn how to tell if the scientific research you read online is trustworthy. This is what I’m diving into in this week’s blog post. Here’s what you’ll learn: 🍃Signs that a piece of research was funded by an organization with an agenda 🍃The differences between in-vivo, in-vitro, and clinical research, and which is best 🍃Ways science can back up traditional knowledge about plants 🍃The dangers of believing any research article about herbs you find 🍃Some of the most common things that make an article untrustworthy Swipe through to learn more and tap the link in our bio to read the full blog post 👉🏽🌿✨ #herbalresearch #evolutionaryherbalism #astroherbalism #medicalastrology #astrology #birthchart #herbalism #plantmedicine #alchemy #plantpath #herbalist #herbalmedicine #herbstudent

I don’t share this story very often, but when I met the Dogwood spirit 13 years ago they were being hit hard with a blight that was weakening and killing the native trees When I connected with her, I could feel the potency of her medicine, and also her deep need for spiritual support I asked how I could help her, and I felt her desire to be honored by song every day. I had received a song from the dogwood in my yard that honored her beauty, and I promised I’d sing it to her daily for a month Every day when I’d sing, I could feel the way she soaked it in, receiving the medicine of the frequency of the sound and words I could feel the way that when my heart was true and open, I was impacting her well-being. I could feel our connection and relationship growing stronger, and I could feel the way humans and plants have helped one another for time immemorial Tomorrow at the Song Ceremony with Dogwood, we’re gonna sing that song, plus a couple others, to a large grandmother dogwood tree at Powell Butte. We’ll honor her, and then receive from her medicine in turn She’s been one of my biggest teachers and guides these past 13 years, and I’m so excited to hold space for more people to receive from her graceful dignity and clarity Join us!

✨🎉TWO YEARS🎊✨ It’s a lot of work, but the journey is worth it I am truly grateful for all the support from my friends and family, mentorships and wisdom shared, and belief my community has had in me! This week I am celebrating a growing business, the most successful calendar year so far, while cultivating visions for the future! I saw a quote this week that small business isn’t for the faint of heart, but the reward from trusting yourself and taking the leap to follow whatever dreams you have in the moment while also being adaptable to change and flow is quite empowering. Cheers to wherever the plant path takes me next!

“Sometimes a plant will stand up in the forest and call your name. You have felt its calling, echoing from the forests at the perimeters of the world and into your heart. Leaving behind the hardened concrete shell of the world, you entered the wild territory of the Earth; through deserts of expansive, starry nights and the carved barks of ancient forests, to the peaks of snowcapped mountains and the depths of fertile valleys. The plant path is one we tread both outside in the landscapes of the Earth and within the inner forest of our being. When they come together, we are initiated at the hand of Nature.” Excerpt from Evolutionary Herbalism: Science, Medicine, & Spirituality from the Heart of Nature by Sajah Popham 🍃💚📖💚🍃 #evolutionaryherbalism #astroherbalism #medicalastrology #astrology #birthchart #herbalism #plantmedicine #alchemy #plantpath #herbalist #herbalmedicine #herbstudent

Happy Earth Day! I spent some time today in my garden, potting up seedlings and planting out my herbs, with the ladybirds for company. My simple pleasure is the scent of earth - I've felt like that for as long as I can remember... as a child playing in the garden, on archaeological digs (knowing the different layers of soil by their scent was a thing for me!) and now, I just love sinking my fingers into the richness of the earth and imagining all that growth to come as Summer unfolds Her skirts. May we always feel the blessings of the Earth, and may we always honour Her in return. #earthday2024 #priestessofcerridwen #goddesspath #priestesspath #witch #witchesofinstagram #greenwitch #gardening #earthmagic #plantpath #plantmagic #earthwisdom #currentenergies #currentmood #instamoment #ladybird

🌱🌸 Happy National Herbalist Day! 🌱🌸 Each year on April 17th we celebrate Herbalist Day to honor the important role herbalists have played in our modern lives. Plants and herbs have been used to help humans since the dawn of time. From their medicinal uses and healing properties to their nutritional benefits, the myriad benefits of plants we have thus unlocked are primarily the contribution of herbalists everywhere. HISTORY OF HERBALIST DAY Herbalism is the study of plants and herbs, usually for their medicinal purposes. Throughout history, herbalists were mainly focused on studying plants and selling solutions and plants to be used for their healing properties. Although the practice dates back to early humans, the herbalist profession became a specialty during the medieval period. This profession saw particular growth during the 12th century. As of the 17th and 18th centuries, several universities across Europe had specialized courses and degrees for herbalists and several institutions dedicated to this profession. Today, the practice of herbalism is still very common as we constantly rely on herbs for several purposes, although the profession has changed significantly from what it was several centuries ago. In recent years, several initiatives and cooperative programs have been organized in several countries to renew herbalism. As an herbalist, I am honored to be part of our herbal community and love seeing the movement back to time-honored methods and traditions of using plants to help heal and nurture our bodies. 🌱✨ Bright Blessings. 🙏✨ 💚The Gruene Witch . . . #nbtexas #gruenewitch #newbraunfels #apothecary #herbalremedies #plantmedicine #plantmagic #eathmedicine #herbalism #earthmagic #gruene #shoplocal #greenwitch #organicskincare #loveyourskin #herbaltea #gruenetexas #plantbased #herbalallies #NationalHerbalistsDay #Herbalism #PlantPath #HerbalJourney #Herbalist #PlantMedicine

Happy Herbalists Day🧑🏼‍🌾🌿 To celebrate I want to share about one of my all-time favorite plant allies: 𝐋𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐦 (𝑴𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒂 𝑶𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒔) 🍋🌿🐝 :: Some say that if happiness grew in botanical form, it might manifest through Lemon Balm🌿🤗 This is one of those plants that should be grown in every yard and known how to be used by every household in my opinion, or its gentle nature is acceptable by most people, it has a fantastic taste, and given our current cultural situation, could benefit a wide range of individuals. True health extends far beyond our physical well-being. Health isn’t merely about our diet, lifestyle, or sleep patterns. It encompasses mental and emotional balance, contentment, and a fulfilling life. Acknowledging that persistent feelings of depression, anxiety, and despondency hampers our well-being is crucial for developing better health. Fortunately, there are some exceptional herbal remedies that play a vital role in supporting our emotional and mental health, providing solace and tranquility. I think that Lemon Balm is one of the most uplifting herbs in the Western materia medica. Its remarkable ability to elevate our spirit and mind sets it apart from many other remedies. Happy Herbalist Day! 🌿🌹💚 Giving thanks to all my teachers, mentors and guides on this wondrous herbal path. 🙏 About 30 years ago my girlfriend Venus and I sought out a Vedic Astrologer in Varanasi, India. His name was Nila Baba. At the time I was studying to be a lawyer after dropping out of medical school… Nila Baba told me that I wouldn’t be a lawyer…instead, I would be a “great teacher of natural medicine”. I thought he was a scammer and didn’t believe him… After many long and windy roads with a child and lots of world travel in between- I finally finished my degree in Naturopathy (It took me 9 years to complete a 4 year degree!) This was a major springboard from which I forged my own path and style of practice. Reflecting back I realize that one of the main tenets of naturopathic medicine is the concept of “doctor as teacher”. I love sharing info with my clients in clinical practice but I also love teaching classes and workshops. So maybe the Vedic astrologer was right after all? Only time will tell… With much love, Jahwei 💚 #herbalist #herbalistday #plantpath #herbaljourney #herbalguides #herbalmentors #herbalallies #lifeswork #herbalcalling #doctorasteacher #teacher #teaching #herbalclasses #herbalworkshop #herbalapothecary #nevadacity

Relearn medicine making🌿 If you've ever grown fruit or veg, you know growing the food is only one side of the coin. The other is preserving so you can benefit from the beautiful flavours and bounteous nutrients across the seasons. The same is true with herbs. Growing or foraging them is one thing, but in order to work with herbs across the seasons, we need to transform them from fresh plants into potent, shelf stable plant medicines. Although there are nuances, as a whole, medicine making need not be over complicated, but what I often hear from people is they struggle to get started. When you've got a bunch of recipes from all over the internet and a pile of books, it can all feel a bit overwhelming and still leave you with those burning questions - How do I know if this smells or looks right? When will this go off? Is it strong enough? How do I store it? How do I use it? In my experience, when you learn a core skill with someone who's done it many times before, you get all those questions answered. Crucially, that gives you a baseline to gauge what you're making and then the confidence to expand and explore other methodologies and recipes. Because my grandmother taught me how to cook a whole chicken, I have never felt daunted by a roast of any size or persuasion. The same is true with herbal medicine. When you have a solid foundation, you set yourself free - not only free from the stalemate of getting started, but also free from reliance on others to make medicines for you. When you know how to make medicines well, you have confidence that what you're using to support your family is going to be effective. When you understand the processes, you can discern if something you choose to buy instead of make (for whatever reason) is of high quality. It puts you in a position of power. And who doesn't want that?✨ #herbalistsofinstagram #herbalist #herbnerd #herbalremedies #herbaleducation #botanicalmedicine #plantpath #herbalapprenticeship #earthmedicine #herbalistlife #natureconnection #buddingherbalist

Home Herbalism: Herbal Oils + Salves is this Sunday! I am so grateful that I rediscovered my inspiration. ✨️ I am so inherently grateful. I am grateful that I was shown the jungle. I am grateful that I was introduced to a way that was previously hidden from me. I am grateful that the clarity was invited in. I am grateful for the connections I made. I am grateful for the watercolour. I am grateful for the plants. During my time in the jungle, I re-discovered a way of expressing a part of me that has long been buried. I am unmentionable grateful for @sanymeny and his team to introduce me to a powerful way of connecting and learning. I learned so much during my time there and want to carry this new gained inspiration into my life and the life of the one's close to me. Thank you 🙏❤️ I am so grateful that I rediscovered my inspiration. ✨️ #jungle #plantpath #bobinsana #love #compassion #gratitude #connection #metsanoma #ayahusca #pucallpa #pahoyan #delaselva

🌍✨Seeing the World as Sacred✨🌍 Albert Einstein once said, "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." Imagine viewing every step, every breath, every encounter as sacred. Here's how we can cultivate this sacred perspective: 1️⃣ Gratitude Practice: Start and end your day by reflecting on what you're grateful for. From the warmth of the sun to the laughter of loved ones, acknowledging these blessings fosters a sense of sacredness. 2️⃣ Mindful Presence: Engage fully in the present moment. Whether it's savoring a meal, feeling the earth beneath your feet, or listening intently to someone's story, immerse yourself completely in the here and now. 3️⃣ Connect with Nature: Step outside and reconnect with the natural world. Feel the breeze on your skin, listen to the rustle of leaves, and marvel at the intricacy of a flower. Nature's beauty reminds us of the sacredness inherent in all living things. 4️⃣ Acts of Kindness: Practice compassion and kindness towards others. Each act of generosity, no matter how small, contributes to the greater tapestry of human connection and reminds us of the sacredness within each individual. 5️⃣ Seek Meaning: Reflect on the deeper meaning behind everyday experiences. From the rising of the sun to the embrace of a loved one, find significance in the seemingly ordinary moments of life. Let's embrace the sacredness of our world and see each day as an opportunity to uncover the miracles that surround us. Together, let's choose to live with reverence, wonder, and a deep appreciation for the beauty that resides in every corner of our existence. 🙏🌟 #SacredLiving #MiraclesEverywhere #Gratitude #HolisticHealth #SpiritualAwareness #SacredMoments #HealthyMindset #SpiritualGrounding #HolisticHealing #communityherbalism #plantpath #connectionwithnature #earthishealing #plantsarehealing #community

Have you ever smelled valerian?🌿🤍 It's definitely “characteristic” to the senses. A lot of herbalists describe the odor as being similar to dirty old socks.🧦🤧 I agree, the smell is certainly potent, and taking the medicine is by far easier (for most folks) in tincture form rather than tea. But personally, I actually really enjoy the taste and smell of Valerian. It’s so aromatic and sweet to my senses...but that’s because I work more with the fresh plant rather than the dry. Apparently, the isovaleric acid becomes more dominant when dried - creating a less desirable smell. Maybe I’ve just grown to like the smell because of how much I love it’s medicine. It’s such a powerful nervine hypnotic that helps with tension, restlessness, anxiety and insomnia.😴 Hypnotics are stronger nerve relaxants and produce a bit more of a narcotic effect. As the term implies, these remedies can indeed induce a state of hypnosis - one conducive to falling asleep. For most, Valerian is too strong to use in the day because it’ll make them feel tired- though for some prone to severe anxiety, panic attacks etc, it can be extremely beneficial for use during the day. This just depends on the dose. Because Valerian has a rather heavy energy to it, I’d describe the person who needs Valerian to be tense, uptight, airy/ethereal and/or spaced out. Their stress level might be high and their muscles tense. This person probably thinks too much and doesn’t feel like their feet are on the ground. Valerian will be very helpful to land a person back into their body. ✨🌿🤍 Have you used Valerian before? My top tip for getting started learning herbalism 🌿 Time for a sense check - how many herbal remedy recipes have you got saved in your inbox, on social media or in books on your shelves right now? And how many of those roughly would you say you've actually tried? Sharing creativity and inspiration is absolutely brilliant, but they're not all that much use unless you actually start trying them. And it's really easy to get stuck between too many ideas and worry you'll put in all that effort and it not turn out right and end up not trying anything at all. So here's my top tip - start with just one type of remedy or one herb. If you choose one remedy to practise making with many different herbs, you'll start to get to know the nuances of that particular remedy - say, tinctures, for example - and develop your skill and confidence in making it. Or, if you choose one herb to prepare lots of different ways - say chamomile as a tea, an infused oil, a salve, a cream, a tincture - you're getting to know that herb and deepen your relationship with it and knowledge of it. So take a step back from inspiration overwhelm. Pick a single starting point, and start making medicine! #herbalistsofinstagram #herbalist #herbnerd #herbalremedies #herbaleducation #botanicalmedicine #plantpath #herbalapprenticeship #earthmedicine #herbalistlife #natureconnection #buddingherbalist

☾ 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐧 ♎︎ ✺ 𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐬𝐞 ✺ The Worm Moon is a powerful reflection this season, being partially eclipsed by the Earth - a shadow cast upon the Sun’s light, evocative of the contrasting times we are in. This tempestuous period of the year always seems to rock us back and forth, plastering us in the in between. Warm and sunny, then suddenly cold and snowy: our inner compass twirls in all directions as we await for Spring to settle. Yet amidst this apparent chaos, Libra invites us to rest in the equilibrium of acceptance. We can find balance in embracing our changing moods, our cyclical patterns. The crocus listens to the cues of the Earth and knows when to emerge from the ground, when to bloom. We, too, possess that inner knowing. Knowledge and skills to last a lifetime 📚 Riding a bicycle. Reading a map. Mending a torn garment. Making your family's special dish. We all have skills we've learnt in childhood or through years of experience that are ingrained within us. Things committed to muscle memory we'll never forget how to do that can be recalled in an instant. Imagine using herbs was like that for you - a reflex, a muscle memory, a routine, a knowing. When my little one comes home from nursery with a new bug, my feet just carry me to my home apothecary. My body makes the decisions of what herbs I'll give her and how. When the seasons change and the food on our table shifts, the herbs I use to cook naturally shift, as well. When our skin gets dry, when our guts get upset, when we're overstimulated and overwhelmed. When someone has a cough, when someone's pulled a muscle, when someone's exhausted with nothing left to give. My feet carry me to my apothecary. Because when you develop your knowledge and skills in herbal medicine, they become a reflex, woven into the fabric of your being and your life - and in the lives of future generations. So if you're keen to develop that knowledge and those skills, if you want to build that muscle memory, if you want your feet to carry you to your apothecary when life needs something of you, commit yourself to learning herbalism. 🌿 Enrolment on my intensive herbalism course - Awaken Herbal Wisdom - closes next Sunday night and then it will close until intake for the 2025 cohorts open at the end of this year. Coming this summer! In this course you will learn the foundations of an energetics based practice of herbal medicine. To study energetics is to learn a language that we were born to understand. The elements: earth, air, fire, water and ether are considered the fundamental patterns of nature. It is believed that all things in existence contain the qualities of these elements in different variations. The goal of studying energetics is to see patterns of nature in both plants and people and to use those patterns to create balance, health and harmony. This practice asks us to arrive in the present and to use our attention, senses and “direct perception”, as Sajah Popham puts it, in order to receive information and develop a deep and intuitive understanding of plants, the human body and the ways they interact. It allows us to formulate individualized and effective herbal protocols for our clients. This course is a primer for The Herbalist’s Collaborative, perfect for those of you wondering if you have enough experience to join! You will learn about the five elements from the Ayurvedic philosophy, the herbal energetics of temperature, moisture and tone, the five flavors, the six tissue states as interpreted and taught by Matthew Wood, herbal actions, an intro into phytochemistry and physiology and how to bring it all together in your herbal practice. * * * * * #herbalstudies #plantpath #theherbalistscollaborative #communityherbalism #herbalenergetics #energeticherbalism #plantenergetics #sacredplanttraditions #buddingherbalist #herbalism #myherbalstudies #herbschool #herbalistintraining #wisewomantradition #herbalcommunity #learningherbs #healingcommunity #herbalist #natureismedicine #connectionwithnature #plantmedicinewoman #plantsaremagic #wildwomenrising #herbsaremedicine #earthishealing #community #plantmedicine #herbalistsofinstagram #plantsarehealing #plantspirits
