They laughed at me 😃 When I tell people that I’m moving to the Wirral way, lower Heswall, overlooking the estuary, enroute to Parkgate, in a million pound house, with lovely back garden outdoor sauna, cinema room etc etc people laugh at me, pretty much in the same way as they did in 1996, when I told people I was going to set up a business as a PT, or when I was going to raise 5k for a charity or when I said I was going to another Black belt in another martial art etc etc but the thing is, People are too afraid to announce what they’re dreams, Or goals are, as they’re scarred of what other people think and they’re also scarred of making those first initial steps. Same with weight loss, Women daren’t tell their friends about what they would like to do, or what they’re going to do, in relation to their weight, relationships, family life, career etc in case they get laughed at sad eh But Anyhoo, is there anything right now... that you would like to do and achieve but your Daren’t tell those around you? Constantly trying to out-train a bad diet? If yes, then this is for you👇 The photo of me on the left was taken in April 2014, so 10 years ago. I remember the night clearly because I hated the way I felt and the way I looked so much that I cried before I went out. I was so unhappy with my weight and my body. It made me so self-conscious to the point were I would dread going on nights out. Here’s the thing though. At that time I was doing HIIT and spin classes 7 days a week. I punished my body with endless exercise that left me feeling exhausted and I refused to take rest days for fear of gaining more weight. So why couldn’t I lose weight? Because my diet was crap. I was consuming way more calories than my body was burning. But instead of sorting out my diet, I just exercised more and more to try and out-train it until I’d eventually crash diet for a couple of months before finding myself back at square one and regaining the weight I’d lost (sometimes with a bit more on top for good measure!). Luckily, it doesn’t have to be that way. It wasn’t until I finally: ✨ Began to manage my calorie intake and sorted out my diet ✨ Began to train effectively for my fat loss goal by incorporating some strength training; and ✨ Allowed my body the time it needed to rest and recover that I finally achieved results that lasted. Worried you’ll fall off track with your diet with all the networking and corporate events you have coming up? Here’s what you need to do👇 I’m lucky enough to have already been invited to some gorgeous events that I’m really looking forward to this year. There was a time when I’d panic as my calendar began to fill up, stressing about gaining weight with all the eating and drinking I’d be doing. Luckily, I don’t let it stress me out these days. Instead, I approach events like this: ✨ I differentiate between the events that will likely be alcohol filled and those that I’m happy to just order a Diet Coke. I don’t feel the need to drink at every single event. I choose the ones I’ll drink at and I no longer care what people think if I don’t drink at others. This controls alcohol calories and after event munchies on the way home too! ✨ I differentiate between evening corporate events that often include a sit down meal and networking lunches / catch up events where food is more likely to be buffet style or canapés. I often eat before the latter and won’t then eat during the event itself. If it’s a sit down meal, I’ll plan in advance by calorie borrowing. ✨ I no longer say yes to every single invite. If I know I already have a couple of events on that week then I’ll politely decline additional events. It’s not necessary to be at the opening of an envelope - choose the events you’ll find most useful and most enjoyable and don’t be afraid to decline invites where you have to. It can feel like a real struggle to stay on track when you have events coming out of your ears but this absolutely does not have to adversely impact your progress, even with a fat loss goal. I struggle too…. Just a couple of years ago now, I was awarded ‘Student of the Year’, at my Lau Gar Kung Fu, Kickboxing class It was pretty unexpected really, especially with there being so many other great students at the time, I’d been doing this style of Martial art for just over 10 years, I’ve also been doing Ju JItsu for 26 years now However.... The truth be known.... Martial arts isn’t even my first love, when it comes to exercise. Weight Training is Over the years, there’s been sooooo many times I haven’t wanted to go to the classes I’ve been battered by other guys, had black eyes, almost broke my leg, and other things Even been a bit lazy to go but I’ve just kept dragging myself to them Sometimes, I’ve had to physically swear at myself internally, “just go you lazy bastard” but over the time, I’ve been rewarded.... Confidence, new skills, toned body, stronger mentally, more focused, belts/sashes and even a trophy and medal, So I’ve had a lot of moments, struggling or finding motivation to get to a class You might be the same You might get in from work, sit on the couch, and that’s it, you cant be arsed attending ( putting it bluntly ) maybe your worried about what other people will think of you in the class or maybe you’ll feel embarrassed, if you don’t know the moves Whatever it may be My tip for you here is...... Don’t let the seed of negativity grow in your mind Sometimes, you’ll have to do what I’ve done, and just drag yourself along Even if it means swearing at yourself Just go. Be brutal And over time.... Further client progress graphs, this time for @hooty91 Again, Squat on the left, Bench Press top right, and Deadlift bottom right. Michael has made great progress since we started together late last year. Squat and Bench Press have been very consistent, whereas Deadlift had to be regressed due to back pain. However, since dialling back the numbers to rebuild and replacing the Squat Variation with Leg Press on the Deadlift day to reduce overall axial fatigue, it's on the rise again 💪. Little update on my own progress At a good place with my own training at the minute. Just under 14 stone and feeling the strongest and fittest I have done in years. Nowadays the Main chunk of my training is with Kettlebells but dumbbells, cables/machines and bodyweight exercises are all weekly staples in my workouts too. I Also include boxing, running and rowing for my conditioning work. Not the leanest I’ve been but I couldn’t care I get injured too easily to be walking round in a deficit all the time 🤣 I’d rather have food high enough to keep me from not getting sick and performing and recovering from training and work. Not gonna lie I love a 🍫 bar 🤣 but I also eat nutrient dense meals at the same times nearly every day consistently. The good out weighs the bad ten fold. The aim for me this year was to have a bulletproof immune system and to be in a condition that I’m happy with all year around Not just for a holiday. Boss to be able to help @_moniquemao_x get holiday ready and back looking and feeling her best after having her little lad Lio. Also boss to see her attitude towards her training change the last few months, not being afraid to lift heavy and pushing through boundaries when needed. Life’s hard graft when kids come along, especially with a fulltime job plus a second job like mon has, so to be able to make the changes to her nutrition and training like she has is brilliant. This hasn’t happened over night and shes not perfect every day but that’s life! Arm Training Do ‘cheat curls’ have a place in your training? Or do I think they’re beneficial? My day at the circus 🤡 On bank holiday Monday, I went the circus with my partner Rachael, her daughter, my Mum, Sister and her kids, and I have to say, it was a great couple of hours out. It was a last minute decision actually, and I’d not been in absolute years. It was well worth it, and I though some of the acts where a bit nerve wrecking. No way could I do anything like that haha. Unfortunately though for me, I don’t do enough of these kind of days out, as I’m just so busy with the business, and I’m always thinking about my professional goals, rather than my personal ones, and thinking about where my time goes, in my private life but the thing is, spending such time with your family, can have a lot of benefits: 1. Connection - Engaging in activities together strengthens our bond with our loved ones, and reminds each other of the support system we have 2. Relaxation - Time away from the daily grind helps in reducing stress 3. Confidence - Spending time with those closet to us builds confidence in our relationships 4. Balance - Our close relationships and family time can be overlooked, certainly if we are chasing goals in other areas of our lives. Another great session with Elena last night. Trying some new things & pushing her hard ! Ski erg form is spot on compared to just a few weeks ago and enjoys it now! Practice does make perfect and the more you do something it definitely gets easier, and you're more likely to enjoy it Some work to be done with man makers but great effort considering it was the first time.
