Today we are highlighting Indica, a recent book by Pranay Lal on the natural history of the Indian subcontinent. Reading through the intricate detail in which he describes events that happened long ago, one might feel like it is a work of fiction. But decades of research and a gift for writing fantastically help Pranay tell stories of an India that is lost to oral history. Make sure you have a map of India handy, as he goes into great detail about where you can find the places he talks about. We recommend you pick it up today! . . . #climatechange #indiareads #booksonindia #indica #pranaylal #naturalhistory #indiaclicks #traveltoindia

I see the stories I’ve written in shapes, artefacts, conversations and many other small ways in which life unfolds around me. Isn’t this the perfect backdrop for a humorous little book about accidental pregnancy, motherhood, love and hope? It’s received so much love from readers over the years and it will always be the first piece of my heart that I sent out into the world as a writer. And never could I have imagined that it would also be the beginning of my long association with my forever favourite publishing house @harpercollinsin and the very enterprising @blackink_books either. Ever so grateful for this journey. And the title is rather apt here 😀ididntexpecttobeexpecting #bookstagram #bookstagramindia #mybooks #readersofindia #indiareads #readreadread #readerlife #writerlife

There is no such thing as a perfect mother. Even Mothers need help. They need support too. And It's okay to ask for help. Agree ? Book- Mum In A Mess Author- Sanjana Kapur Genre- Children's Fiction @penguinsters Age 7+ Ebook available Vishi always thought her Mum could do anything. That Mum was the principal of the house. One day Mum broke the coffee jar. The jar lay there even on the 10th day as Mum didn't allow anyone to clean it nor did she did it herself. There was something wrong with Mum's mood. Vishi was worried that Mum would forget about the jar and they will have to live with the broken jar forever. Vishi comes up with a plan to help her Mum. How will Vishi help her Mum? Will the jar lay there forever?? Or will mum clean it? #bookreview This one is a good story that focuses on the fact that even Mothers need help. It is important to let her know that it is okay if she is tired sometimes and can't carry the house work as usual and that it doesn't makes her a bad mother. Although the story is good, my niece kept on asking that how can one leave the jar as it is for 10 days even if mother is not in mood. She was not ready to believe this thing😅. This was a bit unrealistic in the story and hence i would say author should have written something realistic. Other than that the story is good. Illustrations are simply beautiful in black and white. Rating - 3/5 Thankyou @penguinsters for the copy.❤️ #qotd - do you ask your mother how she is feeling mentally and physically or if she needs help with anything ?? #penguinsters #penguinindia #thebookoholics #mumbaibookstagram #bookbloggersindia #childrensbooks #storybooks #booksforyoungreaders #illustratedbooks #holebooks #bookinfluencers #indiareads

Pagalkhana. Madhouse. The letters were gone, but the wall would forever remain smudged. Book - People On Our Roof Author - Shefali Tripathi Mehta @niyogibooks Genre - Fiction ( theme of loss and trauma in the context of mental illness) For our protagonist Naina growing up was not easy. Abandoned by her father and living with a Schizophrenic mother and autistic sister, things were not easy for Naina. As a child Naina had hated her sister and wanted another mother. But growing up,with an absent father, Naina had worked fingers to the bone to support herself and her family alongside running the house. Others called her home Pagalkhana. They would say who would marry Naina. but what troubled her most was the past - the reason of her father's disappearance. She was badly looking for a closure. #bookreview Writing on mental illness is never easy but Shefali has done a commendable job. She highlights about mental illness in a thoughtful manner - what it is like to live with mentally unwell people, the challenges, society's behaviour to the same. Without actually mentioning she communicates how the society fails those who are mentally ill. Through Naina's story the book explores themes of loss, trauma, caregiver fatigue, parental neglect. Emotional complexities in the book is written with good care. The author's narration and writing feels so raw which makes the story feel like a hybrid of fiction and memoir. The story also highlights that at times we judge others blindly without actually knowing them which is very wrong on our part. All in all it was a great read. There is so much to learn from Naina the one who never gave up and emerged victorious on her own. Thankyou @niyogibooks @shefalitripathimehta for such a powerful read. ❤️ #qotd - Any fiction book on mental illness you read recently?? #mentalillness #booksonmentalhealth #niyogibooks #bookoftheday #bookbloggersindia #mumbaibookstagram #booksthatinspire #indiareads #bookcollabs #letsconnect #bookinfluencers #microinfluencer #thebookoholics

🌻 A very bright morning #bookstafam !! What a crazy lazy day today! 🌻 #qotd - A book you instantly knew was going to be a new favourite? 🌻Since for the past month the only book constantly rolling on my tongue has been 1984 by George Orwell and since it is taking me quite some time to get finished with, I think it is about time I share a few snippets from the book I overly enjoyed. • "He wondered again for whom he was writing the diary. For the future, for the past -- for an age that might be imaginary. And in front of him there lay not death but annihilation. The diary would be reduced to ashes and himself to vapour. Only the Thought Police would read what he had written, before they wiped it out of existence and out of memory. How could you make appeal to the future when not a trace of you, not even an anonymous word scribbled on a piece of paper, could physically survive?" • "Your worst enemy, he reflected, was your own nervous system. At any moment the tension inside you was liable to translate itself into some visible symptom." • "If you kept small rules, you could easily break big ones." • "The heresy of heresies was common sense. And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking but that they might be right. For after all how do we know that 2 and 2 make 4? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and external world exist only in the mind and if the mind itself is controllable what then?" Recently I read this wonderful book, It is a good book for first time readers and specially focused on Non Thinking. It describes that things happen as it is supposed to and everything happens for a reason so don't waste your time thinking about it. Instead give your mind some rest and positive thoughts will start flowing as our mind is the centre of positivity but our thinking makes it negative. Personally I feel there are similar things mentioned in Hindu scriptures and Bhagwad Geeta to be specific, where lord Krishna advises Arjuna to stop thinking much, keep his mind focused and have faith in Krishna and he will do the needful! However, it's a good book overall and a quick read which you can complete in a day or two. But making your mind a non-thinking device will take a lot of time but I think having complete faith in God can help us a lot to achieve a non-thinking state of mind. #bookrecommendations #indiareads #books #bookstagram #daily #motivation #inspiration #booklover #bookphotography #reader #readingtime📖 #instagood #insta #instadaily #instalike #likesforlike #readmorebooks #positivity #thinking #thoughtoftheday #thoughtoftheday💭 #thoughts #inspirationalquotes #motivationalquotes #bhagwadgeeta #krishnaquotes #readersofinstagram #quotes #quotestagram #quotesaboutlife

#TwosonTuesday and #WorldBookDay Uff! “Two” much pressure on a sweltering hot day; but when the evening redeemed itself with a dash of rain, cool breeze and water droplets so big that through the window they looked like pellets of hail, I knew exactly which two books would go on the grid today. #Antima by #ManavKaul was written during the pandemic : a never before experience at least for most of us when a virus kept us inbound, away from the world, away from human contact and away from ourselves. The pandemic years treated us all differently; it made Manav Kaul write ‘Antima’. Antima is my third read of Manav Kaul after his #ShirtKaTeesraButton and #Rooh ( शर्ट का तीसरा बटन और रूह ). There’s something special about Kaul’s writing which goes deep into your core. Written in the Hindi in 2020, Antima was translated into English and ‘UnderTheJasmineTree’ was published earlier this year. #UnderTheJasmineTree translated from the Hindi by #VaibhavSharma I still have to finish reading the translation but it seems very thoughtfully and faithfully done. As the blurb says, “Fluctuating between poetry and prose, questioning even the method of writing, ‘Under The Night Jasmine’ is a world that is layered and many splendored. It’s a coming of age novel - a micro look at a man’s world that both provokes and fascinates”. Which book did you pick up for the World Book Day today?

Whether you're on a personal quest for meaning or simply enjoy literary exploration of the human psyche, this book is a must-read. The author's exploration of the human soul and its quest for meaning makes this novel a true classic that deserves a place in your TBR! The book revolves around the enigmatic Larry Darrell, a young American who returns from World War I deeply affected by the horrors he witnessed. Larry's search for meaning leads him to renounce materialism and embark on a spiritual journey which takes him from the bustling streets of Chicago to the serene ashrams of India. All while leaving his relationships behind, which he always thought were needed for survival. Larry seeks answers to life's most profound questions, and in doing so, he captures the essence of a post-war generation grappling with disillusionment and a thirst for a deeper understanding of existence. The book raises questions about the nature of happiness, the search for truth, and the sacrifices one is willing to make in the pursuit of a meaningful life. . . . #bookstagram #bookblogger #booktbr #indiabookstagram #readersofig #bookstagramfeature #lovereading #bookrecommendations #goodreads #bookstagrammers #indiareads #bookphotography #bookstagramcommunity #oldbooks #bookaesthetic #fiction
