grief is tricky. and lonely. and (for the rest of my) life-long. i have been trying to landscape our terrace for the last 4 years. it started with a year of designing on/off, researching native plants and prices, and figuring out what i wanted and where. it took a year b/c i didn't want to admit i had to do this project alone. my mom was supposed to help me. she was supposed to move back to the US and help me b/c she had an incredible green thumb. but life had other plans for both of us. when i finally decided on a landscape design, i had to get to work. i'm still not done with this part 3 yrs later. how naive it was of me to think i'd have the entire thing done in a matter of weeks! i can only work on the terrace whenever i can steal some time, and that's *if* the weather permits. it can't be raining and it can't be too hot. it's tough for all the requirements to align. something i hadn't considered when starting to work on the terrace was the immeasurable sense of comfort i get. sometimes i feel my mom nearby and i cry as i dig holes. 8 years later and i still have trouble accepting i have to relate to her in a different way. i want to hear her voice, i want her to tell me to get over something, i want her to tell me she's proud of me or that i'm on the right track when it comes to a challenge in my life. but...i have to settle for a feeling. this is an avocado tree i have been growing since a seed. i can't remember exactly when i had it sprout, but it was some time soon after my mom died. it is almost as old as i have had to live without my mom. i hope it is happy in its new home and may it grow and thrive while i continue to work on the terrace hoping that my mom sometimes rests among the redwood tree, lavender bushes, and agave plants that i've already planted. #landscaping #grief #griefisajourney #griefsupport #naturehealsthesoul #plantnativeplants #terrace #terracelandscaping #avocadotree #babyavocadotree #replanting #haveagoodcry

✨Sunday✨ Being a Full-Time Stay at Home Mama while running a handmade Small Business is hard. I started this business almost 4 years ago with 2 children. I've now grown the business, have consistent sales and have 3 children. My plans for the business are to continue to GROW and increase goals. However, this past week was a rough one and it exhausted me to my core. I put my kids and family and SELF first and forcefully took time off social media, asked for help, and had a few good cries (while drinking lots of coffee). I love this job. I love my business. I love my family and children. And I recognize when I need a break. It's hard for me to actually take the break, but it always seems to find it's way to me whether I want it or not. So, here we are! I occasionally get questions or comments about my “crybabies”, so here’s a photo of some of them displayed together. Pardon the dust, these are on the wall behind my massive desk, so they’re hard to dust carefully. These baby heads were made between the 1940s and 1960s of chalkware or ceramic, and usually came in pairs - one happy face and one crying face. They were originally meant to decorate the walls of nurseries. I really only collect the crybabies. If I purchase a pair, I keep both, but only display the crybabies. I adore these sweet faces, even though I get lots of comments about how “creepy” they are. To me they’re not creepy at all, but charming. I just want to give them a hug. As a ND crybaby myself, I would love to see crying normalized rather than viewed as something shameful. In babies, is a way to communicate emotions that can’t otherwise be expressed. Hunger, pain, fear, frustration. For adults in modern American culture, crying is viewed as a weakness. I wish more people understood there’s nothing wrong with crying. The bladder is a detoxifying organ. It's about getting rid of all of those stuck emotions that you carry about.... specifically fear. ⁠ ⁠ The bladder and the kidneys are the organs of the water element. When you store extra fluid (inflammation) in your body, it's a sign that you are storing fear. ⁠ ⁠ One of the best ways to get rid of fear is to have a good, cathartic cry! Have you ever noticed how much better you feel when you get a good cry? The need to have a good cry often shows up on your face as bags under the eyes. Once you release the tears, the bags will go away. ⁠ ⁠ Instead of carrying fear around, move toward fear. When you feel fear coming up, ask yourself, what is the worst that could happen? ⁠ ⁠ When you move towards the fear, you often realize that the worst that could happen is not probably going to happen and you could find a way to deal with it, if it did. ⁠ ⁠ We often let fear control our lives but then we never live the life that we're actually capable of and meant to live. Notice where fear is in control of your life right now.... ⁠ ⁠ You might also notice that when fear plays a big role in your life that you use the bathroom more often and also get up in the night to use the bathroom a lot. ⁠ ⁠ One of the things that many of my students and clients notice is that when they do facial reflexology regularly (receive or work on themselves) is that they use the bathroom less frequently especially at night. The check engine light came on in my car and I lost it. I completely broke down and cried in my car. Even though I know it's probably the gas cap and with the temperature fluctuations of the day, it's loose like it often happens. But there is this little part of my brain that had a heyday with the fact that I also need to get an oil change, the motor is broken in the dash for the vent and it's clicking, I also need to take it for the emissions test and 🙏 that it passes on the first try because it usually doesn't. It's always the gas cap! I also need new tires before winter. So it's not just the check engine light. It's the way the smallest thing can make me fall apart when I know I manage the big stuff just fine that gets frustrating.But it also reminds me that there are reasons I still meet the qualifications for a PTSD diagnosis. Even though it's usually mild and I have done so much work to keep it that way. But I was actually a little proud of myself. In the past I didn't cry at all. I actually started after my therapist told me it was okay to cry. Weird but it did the trick. I know I will stop crying. I won't cry forever. I can cry and move on. It doesn't mean I will deal with depression or thoughts of harming myself. It's just a cry because life sucks sometimes. And that's progress. That's what healing looks like sometimes. I need to cry about twice a month... . I've learnt on this trip that I need time to be sad. I've never really realised before because things that were frustrating, or upsetting would happen and I'd react to them. But being away and being in charge of pretty much everything that happens has given me time to get to know myself better and if I don't have a really good cry once or twice a month then I start to feel really really down. Avoiding experiencing deeper emotions costs us. Every time we push that sucker down, it latches on to the last one, and the one before that, and the one before that. It becomes that heavy weight that builds up in the pit of our stomach. Crying allows us to release oxytocin and endogenous opioids, also known as endorphins. These feel-good chemicals help ease both physical and emotional pain naturally. Releasing these chemicals allows us to move through the emotions and pain and move forward. Tears are Healing After crying, have you ever: · Said that you’re “a mess” because you cried? · Said that you’re a “basket case” because you sobbed? · Expressed disappointment in yourself that you “fell apart?”· Said, “Damn it! I told myself that I was going to be strong and not cry?” · Told yourself that you are "weak" because you cried. That’s all nonsense. Crying is feeling. Crying is healing. Crying is being human. Withholding tears or not feeling anything has absolutely nothing to do with emotional strength. Nothing. When you cry, release self-judgment. Trust that healing is taking place. Studies show that crying has more benefits for the crier when there is no shame or embarrassment attached to it. There are also more benefits when the crier is in the company of someone able to provide support. I stopped apologizing for crying years ago. As an empath, I feel deeply. All through my life I've never really been in touch with my emotions. I could do anger and happiness, but it's taken me years to do sadness. Years! And even now I'm not ok with feeling overwhelmed by sadness or 'self pity'. As mentioned in todays story (and saved in highlights), I found myself in a situation where I faced going to an event alone. I set off thinking "I can do this" and do you know what? I couldn't. I cried all the way to the M62, turned round and came home. I knew if I'd have pushed myself I'd have faced an all time crash in my mental health. It wasn't worth it. Instead, crying away the issues I was facing, wiping those tears and choosing to not push myself to an uncomfortable limit for me #mentally felt like a HUGE achievement. I'm proud of me. I'm proud of the #selfdevelopment I've been through, and continue to go through. Emotions are something that I've grown to live with and listen too. I've been on a massive journey of self development since finding out I was going through this period of my life. And, I think I've realised just how far I've come in that journey. I've cried for joy, out of anger, with laughter, relief, sadness, gratitude, and for no obvious reason... 🌻 Clients have made me cry with laughter, relief and for joy with what they've shared with me; 🌻 I've cried with gratitude for the love and support that wonderful people in my life have shown me this week; 🌻 Some things have made me so angry, I've cried about it (this is why I couldn't be a barrister - I'd almost definitely cry every time I'd have to argue 😂); 🌻 I've cried with sadness as I've joined more dots about my own "stuff", and from making peace with it; 🌻 And I've cried without knowing why, but knowing I've needed to. And you know what? I've felt so much better for it, and the world hasn't ended because I've expressed my feelings. You might be wondering why I'm sharing this... I'm sharing this because many of us have grown up in cultures and circumstances that discouraged any external displays of emotion, especially crying, as doing so was seen as a sign of weakness. Many of us have also learned that there are only a few "acceptable" reasons to cry, and if we're crying for reasons that fall outside that narrative, we should be ashamed of it, apologise to anyone in the vicinity, and stop immediately. So I'm here to tell you that if you want / need a bloody good cry, go for it; you'll feel so much better for doing so. And I'm hoping it doesn't rain tonight because I'm planning to go to the beach to scream 👌😂 How're you today? MOST of us have SOOOOOO many emotions that have been shoving in a box, taped shut and stored in the basement.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ Because we weren’t taught how to feel our feelings. We were taught how to NOT feel our feelings. ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ Just THINK about all of the situations, all of the traumas, all of the pain, all of the JOY you have experienced in your life that you weren’t able to feel. ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ All of that emotion, if it hasn’t been released, is being stored in your body.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ A whole lotta emotional clutter.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ You’re not here to FIX the feelings because feelings aren’t for fixing, they’re for feeling. We’re all pretty versed in why taking care of your body is important. We understand the impact sugar or alcohol or junk food or being sedentary has on your body. It’s the most socially available, encouraged AND acceptable way we are taught to take care of ourselves.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ Obviously we don't want to get sick, we want our bodies to feel good AND let’s be honest. we cannot dismiss the societal narrative that how your body LOOKS really determines your worthiness. It’s definitely a way we try to control people’s opinions…by how we look.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ But here’s the thing. And I hear this a lot.
