Beer of the Past for May 8th, 2018 is Lucille IPA from Georgetown Brewing Company in Seattle, WA. 7% ABV, 85 IBU. Lucille pours a semi-clear, golden amber color with one finger of foamy white head. Fresh hoppy aroma of pine and citrus. On the taste, there's a bit of malt up front, doughy and bready with some caramel malt sweetness. But the hops take over with juicy tangerine, lime, and resinous pine. Perfect mouthfeel that is dry and smooth. Medium body and nicely carbonated. Finish continues with more citrus, this time with grapefruit and a mild bitterness. I’d been advised by Adam at @drinktastingroom that they have an awesome tap serving excellent Sunday roasts so they were already on my radar. Then, after REALLY enjoying Monkey On The Run (collaboration with @stateofkindbrewco ) I just had to check them out further. Obora 15° IPA - @vycep , Tábor - tohle je vlastně klasický představitel pivního stylu IPA od @pivovarobora . Krásná barva, pěna a především intenzivní vůně po tropickém ovoci - tedy typický charakter chmele Citra. Taková až téměř květinová zahrada. IBU má uvedeno 45 ale pocitově bych tipoval i vyšší. Hořkost má delší dozvuk. Je ale cítit lehká kyselost. Těžší tělo. Je to na delší pití - kdo by taky chtěl dávat patnáctky na ex 😁. Ale něco mi na pivu nesedělo, tak jsem pátral po složení a ano, jsou tam... mé neoblíbené ovesné vločky 😭 vlastně si tak říkám, jestli se dá na to zvyknout? I challenge any breweries following or reading this to try and change the industry, and start brewing some traditional styles like lagers, pilsners, cream ales, English style beers, etc, less focus on the hops and more craftsmanship and detail on the malt and final product. There is also some research showing that certain hops etc can feminize men and give them testosterone issues, which concerns me given 90% of craft beer are these highly hopped IPA. As I said, let's start changing the definition of craft beer and bring back traditional beers a little more often, any brewery worth their salt can craft a decent house lager or ale without all of the hoppy and fruity gimmicks that is better than mainstream beers easily, but the market is so dominated by demand for these "hazy" style beers that I often don't bother drinking "craft beer" anymore and just drink @geneseebrewery cream ale. #beer #craftbeer #ipa #hazyipa #brewing

In my travels last month, I had a great opportunity to stop by @cypresscoastbrewing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A great little brewery and taproom full of good beers and good times. I sampled some of their beers, here was my flight list: “Space Ghost: Kolsch to Coast” - Crisp, light, crushable, this beer is a really good German-style Ale. “Doc’s Book of Proverbs” - This Irish Red is a lovely sweet and malty, easy drinking, ale that will please everyone. “For Science: Beer-mosa” - It is their base house sour blended with real orange juice for a great beer-mosa ‘cocktail’. “Welcome to the Black Parade” - A black lager that is full of roasty malt goodness and flavor but not heavy and able to be easily drank on a hot summer day. . . Hits & Giggles from @slicebeer purchased at @hopgrenade 8.8/ 6.7% ABV. Greatly balanced, slightly citrus forward. Very danky, super clean, with some nice floral notes. Very smooth all the way through with an acidic and dry finish.
Shrimp night (SN) and Normalize the signal (NS) from @hopbutcher purchased at @giantsliquor SN 8.6/10 8% ABV. Great balance, slightly citrus forward. Nice orange and pineapple notes with a light piney flavor. Very smooth all the way through with a bitter finish. NS 8.2/10 7.5% ABV. Very nice balance, more on the citrus side. Very big pineapple flavors with some light floral notes. Very smooth with a slighy creamy finish.
Kottonmouth Kief from @shredbeer in collaboration with @ismbrewing purchased at @hopgrenade 9.1/10 6.8% ABV. Greatly balanced, slightly citrus forward. Very danky with some nice berry notes and a great oily mouthfeel. Very smooth all the way through with a nice bitter finish.
Slither (S) and Ghost Park (G) from @ghosttownbrewing purchased at @monumentwinespirits S in collaboration with @movementbrewing 8.5/10 6.9% ABV. Great balance, slightly malt forward. Very clean and crisp with some nice pine and grass notes. Very smooth all the way through with a slightly bitter finish. G in collaboration with @northparkbeerco 8.9/10 7.2% ABV. Greatly balanced, slightly citrus forward. Very big pine notes with some nice berry and grapefruit flavors and an lite oily mouthfeel. Very smooth all the way through with a slightly acidic and dry finish.
