Die Distillery ging 2019 an den Start, dieser Whisky erschien 2023 – er ist also nicht mehr als drei Jahre alt. Er ist hell, er stammt aus ex-Bourbon Fässern – viel erwarte ich ehrlich gesagt nicht. We purchase goods and services from over 1,000 suppliers who all contribute towards our carbon footprint and play an important role in upholding our social and ethical values. We wanted to take a collaborative approach and therefore see the programme as a means to helping each other to become more sustainable. The programme currently incorporates our raw material, packaging, and transport suppliers but all our suppliers are expected to adopt our Code of Conduct for Suppliers." How many suppliers are on the programme? "70 suppliers." What successes has there been this year? "Some suppliers have engaged in the programme with so much enthusiasm. They have not only significantly improved their supplier rating with us, but they have told us that the knowledge they have gained from our programme has enabled them to speak confidently about sustainability to their customers. Which year would you choose? The 12,15,18? Some could be older than what’s on the label 🤓. For me the 15 (older version) is the best. The GlenDronach distillery is situated on the banks of the Dronach Burn in the Forque Valley, between Aucharnie and Inverurie, just east of the town of Huntley, slightly outside of Speyside. Its name, GlenDronach, means “valley of the Dronach,” named after the adjacent river. Built in 1826 by James Allerdice, son of a wealthy landowner, neglect and poor management led to a rapid decline, culminating in a total fire in 1837. After being rebuilt by Walter Scott and changing ownership several times, the company was sold to Teacher’s in 1960 and then to Allied Breweries in 1976. Since its construction, not much has changed at the GlenDronach distillery. The two wash stills and two spirit stills were coal-fired until closure. Nine washbacks are made of Oregon pine. Malt drying kilns were fueled with locally sourced turf. Maturation utilizes both new and used sherry and bourbon barrels. Water for production and barley soaking is sourced from a spring called “The Source,” located about 6.5 kilometers east of the distillery. Water from the Dronach Burn is pumped for condenser cooling. The distillery was mothballed in 1995 but reopened in 2002, reintroducing the complete range of 12, 15, and 18-year-old expressions in 2009.

Hazy, and pours with a beautiful 4 finger head. Nose : Tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, strawberry, passion fruit, some peaches and grape. Palate : lush medium-full body. Creamy beer, that just explodes on the palate. Explosion of tropical fruits, strawberry, mango, peaches, passion fruit, and lingers with a sweet mango, and after taste of sweet white grapes. Almost no bitterness. Overall impression : 9.1/10 Fabulous beer this, lush, creamy, hoppy and overload of tropical notes. Easily one of the best New England Style IPAs there is around. Just soo refreshing and I could smash a couple of these on a warm Sunday afternoon. The booze was is almost non discernible.
