We are very excited for the trailer to be back at @glenspeanmarket on Saturday we will have as always the best coffee, amazing tea and cold drinks aswell as the brownies by me, cute biscuits and scrumptious sausage rolls. We will then be setting up our trailer on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at a new location. Hunting for gold 🔎✨ Had a VERY exciting plant hunt with a friend the other day! We were up in the boggy Scottish Highlands, looking for a species I’ve wanted to see for YEARS. Its name is Golden Bog-moss (Sphagnum pulchrum) and isn’t it *beautiful* ahhh 😍 We sploshed around boggy pools for ages, armed with grid references and moss ID guides, eyes peeled. I was twitching at every bit of golden orange I saw, desperate to finally meet this creature I’d spent so much time gazing at in my books. After five hours of searching, I was beginning to think maybe today wasn’t our day. And yet it was *here*. Somewhere. Maybe even just metres away from me. This is one of the most frustrating - but ultimately most rewarding - things about plant hunting. You can’t sit there and wait for them to come to you (though I regularly try this, because, you know, you never know). You can spend all day walking in circles around a plant without ever knowing it’s there. I love the idea of them just watching and laughing in their own planty way at these humans wandering around with hope in their eyes, twitching at any sight of gold. Some days it doesn’t happen, the plant never reveals itself. But this wasn’t one of those days. I reached the halfway point along a boggy pool, half-distracted by a yipping Peregrine overhead, when I saw the starry scrawl of a bog-moss glowing honey-gold in the spring sunshine. BINGO. Cue boggy peaty mossy dances - love love *love* this plant!! VATERSAY - a great place to visit. I thought I might share with you some beach therapy from my recent trip out to the Isle of Vatersay. Seriously, I think therapy is the right word as I find there is always something so soothing about being alone on a deserted beach with the noise of the waves, the bright sunshine on your face, the cool breeze, the smell of the salty sea air, and the feel of the sand and pebbles underfoot. Maybe you know what I mean? The incredibly green colours of the sea and blue of the sky are just as it was seen by my iPhone. There is something really vibrant about Outer Hebrides colours on a sunny day. As you may know, the island of Vatersay is the southernmost and westernmost inhabited island in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, and the settlement of Caolas on the north coast of the island is the westernmost permanently inhabited place in Scotland. The old boat in the third picture is the one that used to supply Barra Head Lighthouse on the southern most island of the Outer Hebrides back in the day when lighthouse keepers still existed. Vatersay, is accessible by CalMac ferry from Oban to Castlebay on Barra, the neighbouring island, or by plane landing on the beach at low tide. Have you been? If you have, you’ll no doubt also have experienced the wonderful clean and oxygen rich air which has been filtered by thousands of miles of travel across the Atlantic Ocean before arriving here. Parę dni temu wróciliśmy. Pięć dni jak z bicza strzelił. Dni długie, ale czas krótki. Dłużył się przy powrocie. 3 godziny snu i 19 godzin w drodze. Ale było warto. Ostatni, głęboki wdech przed maratonem nauki, bo sesja puka, a ja jeszcze trzymam drzwi. W marzeniach rzucam wszystko i jadę na te północne pustkowia. Pustkowia opanowane przez owce. Krowy też gdzieniegdzie. Szlak destylarni whisky. Jadę do tych mikro domków na odludziu, które stoją od dawien dawna i wielkimi oknami patrzą na pola. Czasem na morze - i to w takim bym się zatrzymała. Woda mrozi kości, ale gdy jedynie się jej przyglądasz, jest ciepła. Uspokaja. Błyszczy się i otula. Wody w potokach prędko biegną do wodospadów. Majestatyczne widowisko upadku, który jednak nie jest bezcelowy. Tak, w marzeniach siedzę tam z owcami, górami, trwami i kamieniami. Siedzę w małym domku, który w nieznany mi sposób od środka rozpiera się, naciąga, nadyma i wyrasta sam z siebie. W ręku z kawką, bo bez niej czar pryska. Dookoła cisza przerywana przez beee i meee i mewy. Chwilę tam zostaję, aż zatęsknię za ruchem i hałasem. Aż znienawidzę wiatr i wszechobecne baranie bobki. Marzenia urwane. Muszę iść otworzyć drzwi.
