In Ludlow Castle 1/4.... The castle was probably founded by Walter de Lacy after the Norman conquest and was one of the first stone castles to be built in England. During the civil war of the 12th century, the castle changed hands several times between the de Lacys and rival claimants and was further fortified with a Great Tower and a large outer bailey. In the mid-13th century, Ludlow was passed on to Geoffrey de Geneville, who rebuilt part of the inner bailey, and the castle played a part in the Second Barons' War. Roger Mortimer acquired the castle in 1301, further extending the internal complex of buildings. Richard, Duke of York, inherited the castle in 1425, and it became an important symbol of Yorkist authority during the Wars of the Roses. Все знают, что Чехия - это страна замков, по разным оценкам, здесь их около 2000 тысяч.. Вопрос, конечно, стоит ли считать за замок 2 кучи камней, которые сто лет назад таковым были. Но вот этот замок точно бы попал даже в укороченную статистику, уж шибко хорошо он сохранился. Городок Велке Мезиржичи находится между Прагой и Брно, как раз под дорогой, их соединяющей. И здесь буквально "под дорогой", т.к. город находится в долине между двум горами, а трасса проложена наверху, через мост, возвышающийся над городом. Сам городок очень маленький, площадь, речка и церковь. Но уютный) На холме расположен парк с одноимённым замком, который во время моего визита туда был закрыт) Пришлось довольствоваться тем, что было - красивым двором и замковым парком. 🏰 Springtime Castles in the UK: Our next visit was to DOVER Castle, also incredibly old, dating back to the Medieval ages and set high up on the famed White Cliffs of Dover. Parts of the castle (e.g. the Constable's Gate and wall tower) date back over 800 years to 1205-2014! In the town of Dover we saw a cemetary with tombstones from people born in the 1700's! . 🫡 The Military Barracks were most impressive, and more recently "Operation Dynamo" was the rescue operation implemented by the Royal Navy, and co-ordinated by Vice Admiral Bertram Ramsay and his small team, from Dover Castle during WWI. . 🏥 Sharon and I were able to go visit the underground hospital tunnels, which were incredible. However, we couldn't go further down into the tunnels where Operation Dynamo took place, due to the number tourists ahead of us. . 😅 From Dover we drove to Didcot, Oxfordshire, and spent some time with friends Jim and Betty who were in the BSAP with me back in Zimbabwe in the late 70’s. The Château de Chaumont, also known as Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire, is a stunning castle located in Chaumont-sur-Loire, in the Loir-et-Cher department of France. It is renowned for its picturesque setting, beautiful gardens, and rich history. The original fortress at Chaumont was built around the year 1000 by Eudes II, Count of Blois, to protect the region from invasions. It was designed as a defensive structure with strong fortifications. In 1465, King Louis XI ordered the destruction of the château to punish Pierre d’Amboise, its owner, for participating in an uprising against the crown. Antonio y Francisco, dos trabajadores cuyos esfuerzos combinados son la columna vertebral del mantenimiento y conservación de nuestro castillo. 🧑🏻🔧Antonio, con una trayectoria en la empresa desde 2004, es el indiscutible "hombre de mantenimiento" del castillo. Su habilidad para resolver cualquier problema, ya sea una rotura, desperfecto o arreglo, es verdaderamente admirable. No hay desafío que se le resista, y su dedicación incansable y disponibilidad en todo momento lo convierten en una verdadera salvación para el castillo. Es amado por todos por su naturaleza trabajadora y su capacidad para mantenerlo todo bajo control. 👨🏼🔧Por otro lado, Francisco, el benjamín del equipo con tan solo 23 años, ya lleva tres años en la empresa como ayudante de mantenimiento, y ha mostrado una disposición notable para aprender y seguir las enseñanzas de Antonio. Su naturaleza alegre y jovial, agrega una dosis de energía positiva al equipo. Es un trabajador responsable y bien mandado, dispuesto a seguir los pasos de su mentor y contribuir al excelente mantenimiento del monumento. Gremi Castle, Kakheti, Caucasus, Georgia The Gremi Castle complex was built in the 16th century by King Levan of Kakheti. It includes the medieval three-story castle, the Church of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel, a bell tower and a wine cellar. It is encircled by a wall secured by embrasures, turrets and towers. Remains of the secret tunnel leading to the Ints’obi River have also survived. The complex, overlooking the Alazan valley, is what has survived of the once flourishing town of Gremi, the capital of the Kingdom of Kakheti in the 16th and 17th centuries. Founded by Levan of Kakheti, it functioned as a lively trading town on the Silk Road and royal residence. Since 2007, the monuments of Gremi have been proposed for inclusion into the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The administration had retracted important rights which had been given to the people by French Revolution troops (governing 1797/98-1815). Since the Hambacher Fest, Hambach Castle has been considered a symbol of democracy.

В последние выходные лета я решила продолжить свои вылазки для осмотра достопримечательностей Гродненской области. Дорога к Любче пролегала через живописные холмистые пейзажи, поля и колоритные белорусские деревеньки. Любчанский замок - главная достопримечательность посёлка. С 16 века возвышается он и над Нёманом, и над поселением. На протяжении многих веков замок пережил множество событий. Менялись хозяева, менялась архитектура, он разрушался в войнах... Сегодня замок медленно, но планомерно восстанавливается доброй волей волонтёров. Попутно я осмотрела местный католический и православный храмы. Так и прошёл день. Домой я вернулась с багажом приятных впечатлений, сувенирами и красивыми фото на память.
