The Bottled in Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey, the distillery’s latest addition to its esteemed year-round whiskey portfolio is expected to be a highly coveted bourbon. To produce this Bottled in Bond bourbon, the Milam & Greene team used its signature mashbill featuring malted rye, which offers a richer texture and a slight nuttiness, and its proprietary yeast recipe that provides balance. I am a bourbon fan. In 2015 I visited some friends in TN and we decided to hit up a couple of Kentucky bourbon distilleries. The first places we all agreed upon were Buffalo Trace, and Woodford Reserve. After finishing those stops we had time for one more place, but two good options. Four Roses ended up winning out, and just like that we had our initial experiences with the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Buffalo Trace has not been part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, but with Woodford Reserve and Four Roses we still had 2 stamps on our Kentucky Bourbon Trail Passports. This passport was small, especially when compared to the Passport & Field Guide that exists today. The passport was roughly a dozen pages in total, and only 7 distilleries listed. I did not expect it to take me until 2024 to finish the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, but I also did not expect it to grow to 18 distilleries. In that 9 year period, I went from recognizing these distilleries to have some of the very same distilleries recognize me. While the majority of the larger distilleries are spitting out new expressions faster than a speeding bullet, Four Roses has a way more conservative approach by only having four core range products in their portfolio, whereas their latest expression - The Small Batch Select, was introduced back in 2019. It’s no secret that I’m a huge Four Roses fanboy and hold their Small Batch Select in high regard. The only downside with this expression is, that it’s more or less unavailable on the European market. Which - taking Four Roses’s strong ties to Europe into consideration, is a God damn mystery. Let's explore whiskey! Check out the link in my bio to watch the full review on YouTube! This is the newest whiskey from the @teelingwhiskey Explorer's Edition series. This is a series where Teeling are finishing their whiskey in different types of casks or wood types to take some flavours from all around the world and bring it into their whiskey! The Whiskey was aged for 11 years in ex bourbon casks and finished for 4 years in ex-Barley Shochu barrels. Shochu is a type of alcohol from Japan and it can be made from a variety of sources, and while it might, on the surface, seem like whiskey, it's quite different, and generally has a light, fruity taste. The whiskey is Teeling's standard blend of 75% Grain whiskey and 25% Malt Whiskey. It comes in at 46%, it's non-chill-filtered and has its natural colour. Also, fun fact about the kanji on the bottle, it essentially translates as "Negative Death Bird, Barley Alcohol", or, as we might say in English, Phoenix whiskey, which I think is the nickname teeling has in Japan, due to their logo being a phoenix! Tasting Notes: Nose: It's nicely fruity on the nose, with candied apples, sweet vanilla cream, some tropical mango notes and a little hint of spice. Palate: More tropical fruit on the palate, with nice honeyed sweetness, as well as some gingerbread biscuits. The tropical fruit is light, but quite apparent, kind of like a dried mango instead of a juicy, fresh one. Finish: The finish is quite soft, with a little bit of oak, but overall, it's quite crisp and clean, with more of those fruity notes lingering on. Overall, this is a really nice whiskey, while the flavours are light, they are clean and crisp, and easy to enjoy. Lustau Bodega / Jerez!🍷📸 (English Below) Bu hafta İspanya’nın Endülüs bölgesinde yaptığım gezinin benim için tartışmasız en güzel noktası. 🇪🇸 1896’da kurulan ve 3 kez dünyanın en iyi şeri (sherry) üreticisi ünvanını kazanan Lustau için şeri dünyasının en önde gelen markalarından biri diyebiliriz. ✨ Birçok viski sever gibi benim de şeri şarabına olan ilgim viski olgunlaştırmasında kullanılan şeri fıçıları yani içerisinde şeri bekletilmiş fıçılar nedeniyle başladı. 🥃 Fakat özellikle Londra’ya taşındıktan sonra şeriden tek başına da çok keyif almaya başladım, özellikle de Palo Cortado ve Oloroso türlerinden. 👌🏻 ✍🏼 Lustau gezimden ve şeriye dair detaylardan yazdığım kitapta çok detaylı olarak bahsedeceğim ama burada da birkaç kare ve bilgiyle paylaşacağım.
