When most women think of balanced eating they think of clean eating. They think that it is only eating foods they have labeled as “good”. But in reality, having balance means an even distribution of weight. Picture a balance scale. On one side of the scale you have restrictive diets plans, all or nothing thinking, and food rules that require you to have self control. This is where you eat “clean” and avoid food that you have labeled as “bad”. On the other side of the scale is where you choose to say “ to heck with food rules, I am going to eat whatever I want”. This often leaves you having little regard for the nutritional needs of your body, and never saying no to foods you have previously labeled as “bad”. When you think about balance, most often we end up spending time on each side of the scale. Cycling between “good” and “bad”. This is where the all or nothing mentality can arise. You tell yourself you have been good all week, so you deserve to eat whatever you want all weekend. Or you tell yourself you have already blown it by eating the chocolate cake at a staff birthday party so you may as well just keep going and spend the day overindulging. Or the other way around, you tell yourself you have had a bad week and you will get back on track and eat clean next week. But that's not a balanced diet. That is moving from one side of the scale to the other. It happens all the time...holidays, picnics, parties, weekends, vacations...whatever, it's part of life. Rule #1...Don't beat yourself up. It happens. It has happened in the past, it's going to happen in the future. We love food...and when it's around us we resort back to old habits. The mind is the most powerful thing. Rule #2...Wake up, realize it's a new day, and start with a fresh mindset. Start your day moving your body, fuel it with some clean food and get out the door. If you had food prepped on Sunday your lunch is in the fridge ready to be heated up. Rule #3...Write down what you eat. Keep a food journal. It is the most important thing. We don't realize what we put in our mouths. And now with our phones or computers with us 24/7 we can do it while it's happening. Nothing better in the world! 6 Super Foods--Quinoa, Kale, Blueberries, Raspberries, Avocados, and Almonds-- makes this salad a go-to any time of the year to keep you on track and eating clean 😍 Superfood Salad with Honey-Lime Poppy Seed Dressing Ingredients Dressing 1/2 cup avocado oil or evoo 1 tsp lime zest 3 1/2 Tbsp fresh lime juice 2 1/2 Tbsp honey 1 tsp Dijon mustard 1/4 tsp salt 2 tsp poppy seeds Salad 2 cups cooked quinoa (about 1 cup dry) 1 cup sliced almonds, toasted 9 oz baby kale or baby spinach 1 cup fresh blueberries 1 cup fresh raspberries 1 1/2 - 2 medium avocados, diced 5 oz feta cheese, crumbled, optional Directions In a blender or mason jar combine all dressing ingredients except poppy seeds. Blend until well combined (or cover and shake if using a mason jar). Pour into a container and stir in poppy seeds. Store in refrigerator. I talk about being a coach for BODi often, but maybe I don't talk about it enough. I started coaching for the discount, to help myself climb out of a dark black hole of obesity and alcoholism. I was having success with my health and wellness, so I started sharing my journey. Other women who were struggling joined me, and they started getting results. After a few years, what started as earning grocery money, became something more. I was able to contribute to our household in the way I always wanted to...and it felt good. What I need to share more though, is the community of women that I partner with...they are my family. When I was diagnosed with cancer, they were there for me every minute of the day. ‼️ EASY RECIPE ALERT *Single Serving Quiche* Grab your favorite burrito size tortilla and a pie pan. (I used Siete cassava flour burrito size). Preheat oven to 350° Lightly spray the pie pan with a cooking spray to prevent sticking. Then place your tortilla into the pan making sure all sides are elevated evenly and it takes the shape of the pan. Whip together 3 eggs and pour them into the tortilla base. (If you want extra protein you could stir in some cottage cheese in with the eggs). Add whatever ingredients your heart desires or you have on hand as leftovers. I just happened to have some cooked chicken spinach sausage, tomatoes, and roasted broccoli. Top with a handful of cheese or ND cheese if you want. Add any spices. Bake in oven checking at 10 mins. Mine took about 13, so will depend on your oven. This is an easy and fun way to get your protein and fiber in! I haven't tried this in the air fryer yet as the oven was already on so I just used that instead. Insomnia, skin or digestive issues are rarely seen as a first sign our nervous system is dysregulated. | Are you prioritising protein on your plate | Starting Monday with a bowl of porridge. It's a classic rich in beta glucans, a soluble fibre which is a non digestible carbohydrate which acts as a food source for our gut bacteria in the large intestine. This type of fibre slows food transit keeping us fuller for longer. It may help remove cholesterol and oats are an excellent source of magnesium, vitamin B6, iron and calcium. Oats offer protein too, but here's how I like to add to the protein. I like to grab a handful of oats and mix with a tablespoon of chia seeds which is a complete protein source before soaking and cooking. Combing protein with high fibre oats will keep me feeling fuller for longer. The trick then is to add more protein. Here I've added cashew nuts, mixed seeds and tahini. Did you know that carbohydrates take approx 1-2hrs to digest whereas proteins take 3-4hrs to digest. For every meal always ask yourself, where is the protein in my meal. Why keep it protein rich? Protein is crucial at any life stage, but in midlife health it plays a vital role in supporting our overall health from sustaining muscle mass, for repair, for making neurotransmitters (our brain chemicals) and hormones and it also has a positive benefit in metabolism. It's the building blocks for our body. Put simply, protein is an essential part of every aspect of our ✅ Physical ✅ Metabolic ✅ hormonal ✅ digestive ✅ Immune ✅ Neurological ✅ Mental health Plan your breakfast well as our muscles are primed for taking in protein in the morning. Ingredients Marinade Ingredients 3 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 tablespoon Lemon juice 2 tablespoons Dried Parsley or ¼ cup fresh flat-leaf parsley ½ teaspoons Brown sugar 1 teaspoon Balsamic Vinegar 1 ½ tablespoon Smoked Tea Rub Burger Ingredients 4 Portobello mushroom (Caps, cleaned, scored with stems and gills removed) 4 Burger buns 2 cups Favorite greens (As lettuce, sprouts, or spinach) Tomato slices Mustard Squeeze of lemon 1 teaspoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil Pacific Flake Sea Salt Few grinds of Tellicherry Pepper Directions Make your marinade by combining lemon juice, olive oil, parsley, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, and Smoked Tea Rub. Place mushrooms in the marinade. Flip and turn the mushrooms to make sure they are thoroughly coated. While mushrooms marinade for 30 minutes, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Remove the mushrooms from the marinade and place gill side down on the preheated grill away from the heat. Close the grill and cook for 5 minutes. While mushrooms cook, dress your greens with a squeeze of lemon and a splash of olive oil. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and a few grinds of Tellicherry Pepper. Stir well. Definitely perfect for a delicious side! Edamame Salad😍 1 lb frozen shelled edamame 3 cups frozen corn 2 diced red bell peppers 1 cup thin sliced green onion 1 cup finely chopped red onion 1⁄3 cup chopped fresh Italian parsley 2 Tbsp fresh chopped basil . Dressing: 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice 3 Tbsp dijon mustard 3 Tbsp evoo 1 tsp sea salt 1 tsp fresh ground black pepper Instructions: Prepare edamame to package directions. Drain thoroughly. Combine salad ingredients in a large glass bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk lemon juice, mustard, evoo, salt and pepper. Add chopped veggies to dressing and toss to coat.
