I absolutely love the Aunties series. LOVE. IT. In fact, I love it so much I feel a little irrationally protective of it. So much so, that I felt myself getting fired up while reading the negative reviews on Goodreads for it. I love you all, but… this is the 3rd (and final) book in the Aunties trilogy… if you don’t know by now that this isn’t written to be outlandish and not realistic… then that’s a YOU problem, not an AUNTIES problem. You should know by now what to expect when Meddy and the aunties get together for a book. I adore Jesse Sutanto’s writing and I flew through the pages of this book. This series would be a great pick if you’re in a reading slump - although this isn’t a series where you should skip the first two books, you really should read them all in order. I’m deducting a star ONLY because I slightly enjoyed the first two books more… and I think the revelation at the end would have made for a better third (and final) book than this storyline did. While I really enjoyed this book, I REALLY would have preferred and loved to see (on page) what happens after … something I can’t say, because it’s a spoiler… is revealed. The Aunties are back! 🤭 I literally squealed when my library hold came in yesterday! Meddy and Nathan are winding up their romantic honeymoon by celebrating Chinese New Year in Jakarta with Meddy’s entire extended family. The chaos, it ensues. This book is hysterical and sweet and just such good fun. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve laughed out loud, especially when the Aunties tell Meddy *she’s* being melodramatic! 🤣 The audio is absolutely stellar. Love this series! 💛🩵🧡

When Medellin Chan gets set up on a blind date by her mom, things go very wrong. She has to dial up her mom for help, this always includes the help of her mom’s 3 sisters. There is not a lot of time to handle things the proper way because they are working a large wedding , which happens to be at the hotel her ex- boyfriend runs. Through a series of comical close calls, Medellin rekindles her love with Nathan. Happy Thursday besties!!🪴🪐 I feel like I’ve been inactive recently and I think it’s definitely a combo of many things, so sorry if I missed any of your posts, I’m definitely trying to get back on track with comments, insta, and life lol🥲 Anywaysss back to books... I usually only read one book at a time but for some reason I am in the middle of four books at the moment, eventhough one is definitely getting all of the attention lol which is the first book of Zodiac Academy.♊️ I do have some initial thoughts on Zodiac Academy. Im like 50 pages in or so and honestly, the first chapter or two were kinda hard to get into. I thought the writing style, wording, and sentence structure was a bit confusing even though it is simple, nonetheless I kept going because every author is different (and something to get used to), and Im so glad I conitnued. Now i am soooo immersed, definitely getting the groove of the writing and loving it all! The book does reminds me of Harry Potter(at least for now) and the winx club (a little hehe) but with zodiac signs and the elemets, and I am all about that!!🤭🫶🏻 Side note: Im only like two chapters into Archers Voice and its so cute and I love the vibes. As the countdown to the wedding begins, we learn about each woman’s motives: - Lulu - reluctance to marry - Rina - a missed promotion and ticking biological clock - Jane - a chance at a life of luxury and a new husband Despite the differing circumstances and personalities, I loved seeing these friends scheme and play to their strengths. This felt like a good mix of Ocean's 8, Crazy Rich Asians, female friendships, and a Shanghai backdrop. Though the heist planning got messy and a little drawn out, I loved seeing the chaos that took place and the ending! The Good, The Bad and the Aunties by Jesse Q Sutanto. This is the third (and last) book starring Chinese-Indonesian-American Meddy, her Ma, and three aunts, dictatorial Big Aunt, romantic Tsi Chi-obsessed Second Aunt, and former singing sensation Fourth Aunt. These four sisters have a love/hate relationship and are pushy as hell but they will also do anything necessary to help each other when disaster hits. In this book, Meddy and Nathsn interrupt their honeymoon to celebrate Chinese New Year in Jakarta with the aunties and their large extended family. Second Aunt's childhood love, Abi shows up to court her with gifts, including red packets to give to the children. Unfortunately one of them holds the title deed to a piece of land promised to businesswoman/mafiosa Julia Child, who takes Nathan hostage until Meddy and the aunties find and return the deed. Unfortunately it was given to a friend of Meddy's niece, Rochelle, who is the granddaughter of Kristofer Kolumbes, a businessmsn/mafioso with a grudge against Abi. When she refuses to return it, the aunties physically attack her and take the deed to Julia Child to reclaim Nathan. Kristofer gets his revenge by kidnapping Second Aunt, and a wild rescue attempt ensues. Sutanto's first two books were funnier, but I love seeing Meddy and her aunties with their family in Indonesia and the way they all interact. 😂🩷 • Is there a book or series that brings you so much joy? The Aunties series from @jesseqsutanto has given me so much comfort and joy over the past few years! I reread the first two before starting the final (*sobs*) one and it felt like coming home. I read the first two physically initially but I did audio on @bookbeat for the rereads and the third. I have to say audio should be the ONLY way these books are experienced. @loverisamei is an incredible narrator and brings the Aunties and the stories fully to LIFE. Everything is so much bigger, funnier, more chaotic, and I loved the Aunties even more if that’s possible! 🩷 I think anyone who doesn’t enjoy these is maybe missing the point. They’re SUPPOSED to be fun and far-fetched with outlandish plots and characters! They’re utterly ridiculous at times and I LOVE IT. They are pure joyful escapism! While the plot of DAFA is my favourite, I loved how the Aunties came into their own in FAAAW, and TGTBATA because Jesse really said let’s let these ladies loose in Jakarta and see what happens. Spoiler alert: MAYHEM HAPPENS. 🩷 On a serious note, what I love most is how they capture how wide and varied experiences within the Asian diaspora are. Also the culture, customs and traditions and how they differ country to country. I loved the hilarious moments around “losing face” (literally the Aunties worst nightmare), the arguments and how they bring a whole new meaning to the word meddling 😂. I adored Meddy’s journey through the series and how her devotion to her Ma and the Aunties is constant, no matter what they do/say or what drama they cause! Most of all though, it’s the Aunties’ fierce love for Meddy that shines. It’s beautiful to see. I think Big Aunt is my fave but I loved them all so much! 🩷 Finishing the last book was truly bittersweet. This series is perfect for cosy reads that are a wild ride full of fun and utter madness. I had seen #DialAForAunties around everywhere and was intrigued although didn’t know much about it at all. The concept of an “aunty” being so similar to South Asian culture I was instantly drawn to the novel. When I got to actually reading it, I was pleasantly surprised as I had no preconceived idea of where the novel was going to go. After reading (listening) through the way @jesseqsutanto writes about the main character’s experiences, there are a lot of cultural similarities that kept me interested, but even without that, the plot is an easy one to read through and a fun one no less. While there were some areas of predictability, this actually served the plot, because I would sometimes second guess myself or feel accomplished for having guessed right at the way the novel would go. I didn't know anything about this when I grabbed it on sale from Audible. I knew I'd seem positive reviews around it, but had no idea what was in store for me! Meddelin Chan has lived her entire life under the watchful eye of her ma and her meddlesome aunties. So when her mom catfishes some dude into going on a date with her via a website, she's not surprised. She reluctantly goes on it, as she always ultimately gives in to their demands. When things go terribly wrong, Meddi ends up accidentally killing the guy and her ma and aunts try covering it up for her. When they end up with the body at a million dollar plus wedding where they're the vendors, they do everything they can to conceal him, but it won't be easy when Meddi's college sweetheart is running the show and the two are clearly still in love. Can Meddi win Nathan back and get away with murder?! This was super funny. I ended up laughing much more than I anticipated. The aunts were always meddling in Meddi's life and I kinda got why she ever kept Nathan from them in the first place. Den beskrivs som en blandning av mysterium och romantisk komedi, och jag håller med. Huvudpersonen Meddy arbetar som fotograf på familjens bröllopsföretag, där hennes mamma och tre mostrar arbetar med tårtor, blomsteruppsättningar, hår/smink och underhållningen. Det är stark familjesammanhållning, så stark att Meddy ibland tror att hon ska bli galen. Men när hon av misstag råkar ha ihjäl en otrevlig blinddejt är det familjen som ställer upp, och ett galet dygn följer. För samtidigt som de ska försöka undanröja den döda kroppen ska de också jobba på ett storslaget bröllop med 2000 gäster på ett nystartat exklusivt lyxhotell... Släng in ett oväntat återseende av en förlorad kärlek, en grov stöld, oregerliga brudgumsmarskalkar, indonesisk-kinesiska seder som måste efterlevas till varje pris och mostrar som inte kan komma överens, så är soppan klar. För det är verkligen en stor soppa, hela situationen. Men ack så roligt boken är skriven! Jag fnissade många gånger och till och med skrattade högt då och då. 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒 I was so excited for this since Vera Wong was one of my top reads earlier this year, but sadly I think I may have been expecting more. (Maybe I’ve been reading too many mysteries and thrillers 🤷🏻♀️) I felt like the book was trying to achieve a lot - covering up a murder, a romance for MC, and delivering hilarity. If it eliminated one of these things (prob the romance) I think it could have worked and lessened the plot holes. I think what rubbed me the wrong way was how obnoxious a lot of things that happened were, despite everything conveniently seemingly to fall into place and work itself out. One thing I absolutely adored was the family dynamic between Meddy and her aunts. Meddy’s mother sets her up on a blind date and she accidentally kills him! They have a wedding tomorrow but have to conceal the body in the process.. there’s also a little romance. Li em inglês porque o ebook estava em promoção na Amazon. Não é uma escrita difícil, então acredito que mesmo quem não está acostumado a ler livros inteiros em inglês consiga acompanhar. Simplesmente maravilhoso! A narrativa é fluida, as características das tias são marcantes e eu verdadeiramente ri em várias cenas. Uma história leve e divertida, apesar de retratar um crime o tempo todo. Não considero os plots surpreendentes, alguns inclusive são bem previsíveis, mas acredito que esse é o objetivo do livro e isso não foi um problema. Não vou dizer o que me fez tirar meia estrelinha da nota porque seria um pequeno spoiler. O livro ainda representa algumas tradições de casamentos de partes da Ásia e situações inusitadas que não são tão absurdas assim se você tem uma família grande. Recomendo para quem quiser sair de uma ressaca literária ou só passar o tempo com uma leitura que não exige neurônios. The beautiful dress I wore to my friend's wedding this time last week 💕 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📚 The Good, The Bad and the Aunties - Jesse Sutanto I absolutely adore this series and was so glad to get one final instalment of the Aunties, it does not disappoint! ❤️ In The Good, The Bad and the Aunties (another brilliant name!) Meddy, Nathan & The Aunties meet in Jakarta for a family celebration that OF COURSE doesn't go to plan 💥 What follows is the iconic Aunties chaos including kidnappings, the rich and powerful of Jakarta and a whole load of other hilarious antics I absolutely loved sinking into! Currently on one last adventure with the aunties! I'll definitely be a little sad to finish book 3, but I'm glad these books exist. All of them are so fun in their own way! I love the aunties bantering and shenanigans. I highly recommend this series if you're looking for something cozy, lighthearted, and need a good laugh. 🐚🐚🐚🐚🐚 Spent last month catching up with some of my favorite characters!! These are all book three in their respective series and I love them all. Each series has strong, witty female characters that I can't get enough of! The antics are wacky, the supporting characters are amazing & for crime (ish?) novels they are just fun! #DialAForAunties is one of my favorite books EVER! So I am sad that this is the last book in the series but maybe a spin off??? @jesseqsutanto ?? Though the second and third books are not as good as the first they definitely did not disappoint!! Literally LOL funny! Love love love! I'm not sure if #finlaydonovan or #sunshinevicram are finished just yet, the ending of each did not seem like they were and if a book four comes out... Sunday- Raspberry ripple hot choc, Winnie bear, Momma's day off, sun is out and Freddie bears 1st bday party later on 🌞☕️🐶 Book Club book! Very mixed reviews in our club on this, I actually found it really easy to read and something a little different, yes the story is a little farfetched but what story isn't. Rather than the norm genre of just romance and cheese, although it does include a little, this is also about family and breaking free from their grasp whilst trying to dispose of a dead body and a little humour too. Meddy is our main character, she is the only child of the aunties that has stayed with them, rather than moving away, and has got herself stuck in the family wedding business. Her meddling Mum sets her up on a date that seems to know more about her than she does him, and after a very dodgy u turn in the date he ends up dead, and without thinking Meddy ends up taking him home and asking her family for help. However, the next day the family have a big wedding that they are working for and the body ends up following them, now how to run a smooth wedding and dispose of a body in the same day?
