Meet Lavender! It all started when we were trying to break our hen Queenie from brooding. We realized it's warming up outside and the feed stores are full of chicks! We've never tried it before but we read up and gave it a go. We put her underneath Queenie in the night, put food and water nearby and crossed our fingers. To our amazement Queenie accepted her! They're so adorable together. Queenie won't let me touch her anymore and will scoop her back under her wing. I taught a gardening class at farm school in March and mentioned that I had planted about 250-300 ranunculus corms and I'd be happy to get one flower... well... here it is. The one flower I might get for this entire season lol. Isn't she beautiful?! So... I planted ranunculus corms in January... Only to find out that I should have planted them in my zone in November for blooms in early spring before the heat of summer kills them off. Lesson learned. I'm admittedly still pretty new to gardening and I'll never call myself an "expert". There are just so many things about gardening and so many variables... and then if you move to a new location, you're basically starting from scratch all over again. I've had gardens in the past when I would be excited about planting something and hoping I could harvest a little bit for fun but now that I'm gardening for production, I'm paying more attention to things. I will now forever know that ranunculus corms need to be planted in November. What is something you've learned this year?
