Chocolate mousse! Made from leftover coconut pulp! 🥥 . Yesterday I made a batch of coconut milk using fresh coconut chunks and coconut water. Very delish in my creamy green smoothie this morning! I had a ton of coconut pulp leftover, so I’m making treats from it using ingredients that I have around the house. If I have any pulp left by the end of a week, I will dry it in the oven and make coconut flour! . To make little dishes of “mousse”, I blended coconut pulp, a little bit of homemade spelt milk, local maple syrup, cocoa powder, and a touch of pink Himalayan salt in a food processor. І це були Персти із гарнючими величезними півниками теракотового кольору для фінансових здобутків. This cottage and these grounds welcomed me like a big hug a year ago. The trees have heard my thoughts and prayers. They've heard the laughter and conversation of friends and family. They watched over me and I felt their protection. We've gone through all of the seasons together. Growth, harvest, letting go, stillness - the beauty of all 365 days. The rhythm of being with them day after day has changed the rhythm of my life. I'm softer, yet stronger. Yielding, yet resolute. Calmer, yet excited. Content, yet full of wanderlust. I am forever grateful for their influence, their teaching, their care and keeping of me. In Sankrit, Mandala means "container of sacred essence, energy or spirit". So I set out on a quest to make a mandala to honor this special place. All in all, it took six hours of foraging and designing to create this 10 foot offering. It was a very connecting experience. The next day the winds of Ian started to blow in so I gathered up some pieces and made smudge sticks to remember it by. Do you actively thank your surroundings for the beauty they show you all year round? Or even the flowers you buy for your home as they start to die? It's a beautiful ceremony to try. Another plant I've been learning about is Sweet Cicely or Myrrhis. We have this growing in the woods near our home and it has a lot of uses in cooking due to it's taste and smell of anise! The leaves, flowers and roots all have a licorice flavour and scent, and can be used in salads and sauces. The leaves can also be used in tea and the roots can be used similarly to parsnips. Photos of the actual roses at the local rose garden my husband and I visited last Sunday. I think my favorite blooms were those of the coral roses. Probably because I have some Coral Knock Outs at home that are struggling right now. Basically I’m living vicariously through the rose garden’s coral rose blooms. 😆 I would love to have roses in my front garden. And I did. For a minute. Unfortunately, the front of our house doesn’t get enough sun so I found out pretty quickly that it wasn’t an ideal spot for them. Dug them up, planted them in a container, and put them in the backyard . After I’m sure they do well in that particular spot then I’ll plant them in the ground. I think going forward if I’m unsure of how a plant will respond to where it’s planted I’ll hold off on in-ground planting, plant in a container, wait for the plant’s response, and either plant in-ground if the plant likes where it is or move the container elsewhere if conditions are not ideal. Not a bad tactic to use as I learn the lay of the land and figure out which spots are best for different plants. 💚 WHOLE PLANT INFUSED OILS 💚 To create my soothing lip balms I favour the use of whole plant infused oils instead of essential oils. This involves grinding up the dried plant matter & letting it soak in organic oils for months, shaking the jar daily & heating it gently if the plant requires it (such as calendula flowers do). Laurel (Laurus nobilis)🌲🌿 Laurus nobilis, commonly known as bay laurel or just laurel, is the source of the essential oil and comes from its needles. It is renowned for its earthy, sweet, and spicy aroma and as a tree oil, is so very grounding ❤️ During the Middle Ages, laurus nobilis was used for angina, migraine, heart palpitations and liver and spleen conditions with the use the black berries also being used to alleviate indigestion and loss of appetite. 😮🤯 These days, it is used in aromatherapy for its calming and uplifting properties, as well it combines brilliantly with wintergreen and peppermint in a sports gel (recently made this for my son!). Wayfinding Witches These words flowed up with the scent of cala lily, lavender, rosemary & lilac. I was driving home in the spring heat with these scents floating through the vehicle from the backseat where they were nestled in a mason jar. My hair was a whirling mass, my cheeks rosy from cleaning my best witch's new home. A literal labour of love. The floorboards are perfect. They creak and groan in that just right 100+ year old way. The entire dwelling is ready for new memories and momentous occasions. Every time I walk up to this house, the scent of lavender and rosemary gets stronger as the sun does - a house enveloped in these scents is appreciated in even the most mundane sense. But for a witch - it is perfection. A wayfinding witch, finds the ways within the terrestrial and unseen realms. This home, that welcomes my best witch, has found its way to her and her family through many intricate moments of magic. We petitioned, we cut cords, we worked together and separately. Every part of this journey from April 2023 to April 2024 has been a learning experience and a process of faith and tenacity. Of love for each other and our families. A dream for the future.
