My Black Pakistan Mulberrry tree has been producing about 5-10 each day. They are very sweet and a little earthy- not tart. Current state of the garden on this beautiful Sunday morning! A few winter plants are bolting, but I’m letting them go so I can have happy bees and other pollinators 🐝 Flowers are doing well! Borage is happy (I had no idea the plant would be THIS big). Poppies are popping up, all the flowers from @azwormfarm are doing great. The tomatoes from them are also thriving! Trees are doing well, mulberries are starting to ripen, guava survived! Grape vines are growing, need to figure out how to get them to start growing on the pergola, cause how cool would that be?? Pumpkin patch is happy too! Unsure what I planted, but they’re def some kind of winter squash. For the rest of April, I’ll be clearing out the winter plants, putting in the last seeds before the summer heat hits, and harvesting many tomatoes.

If you think you can’t grow tomatoes in the desert you have to try Punta Banda. It is from the @nativeseedssearch seed bank. It was collected from naturalized tomatoes growing unassisted on the beach of Punta Banda Peninsula in Baja. So you know those are some good genetics to survive with temps above 100 all season. They are a little thicker skinned but that means they don’t split. And they are meaty! Very little juice which means they are great for fresh eating but also work for preserving. Here in the desert it’s hard to get an abundance of romas for canning but this little tomatoes do the trick. Punta Banda tomatoes are just one of the varieties we are offering at upcoming Spring plant sales in the Phoenix area in the coming weeks. Details at the link in bio.
