Or any other sub boxes? ♡ I only have one, and that's @thelockedlibrary - I had it when they first released them, then due to being unemployed I had to cancel, but now I am an active subscriber again! This one I am over the moon with (excuse the pun!) and can't wait to get stuck into it! It's a beautiful edition and I am a big fan of Laura Purcell so it should be good. I am back to work after the bank holiday weekend this afternoon, and after 3 sick days....I'm looking forward to getting back to normal but not a fan of these later shifts - gotta be done though right! I've prepped some food for the evening, it's too late to eat when I get home, and I'll cut up some fruit to take as snacks this afternoon too. Lots of squash to drink and I'm well away! Enjoying this watching what I eat again 😊 I did some exercise yesterday and I'm feeling it today, I'm going to do a treadmill walk this morning before I get ready for work, again....enjoying doing some exercise too. I managed to read about 150 pages of both books yesterday, between them.....still not loving either so we'll see. Even after the twist was revealed, each chapter remained gripping. There were moments when I found myself holding my breath until I reached the end of the sentence. In my opinion, the storytelling and narrative presentation are exceptionally well-crafted. The gradual exploration of the past, slowly and steadily, is truly remarkable. It’s astounding to see how skillfully the writer crafted it. Wow. ☀️BOOK REVIEW☀️ Just For The Summer by Abby Jimenez ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 “Even if it was just a tiny moment in a long lifetime of moments, I was happy to be a part of it”. Justin posts a viral Reddit thread about how every time he dates a girl, she always finds her soulmate after they break up. Experiencing something similar, Emma replies to the thread, and their story begins when they come up with a plan to break their curse. The concept of this book was really unique and their story began in a fun way, I loved the calls and questionnaires between them. As Maddy says in the book, Justin is the very definition of ‘if he wanted to, he would’, I think the story really benefited from having his pov, definitely a top tier book boyfriend. The friends in this book were such good additions to the narrative, they really showed their support for Emma and Justin, and it added some really sweet moments between the characters. I LOVED Maddy, she was probably my favourite character, she was honest and wanted the best for her friend, even if Emma couldn’t see it for herself yet. It ~just~ missed the full five stars, but it had the right balance of humour and heart, so I’m definitely going to pick up some of her other books. Five Survive - Holly Jackson - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you to my friend, @pattnimeera , for another of my birthday books. I raced through this in a matter of days and I definitely think listening to the audiobook made all the difference. Red Kenny is on a road trip with five of her friends when the RV breaks down. What initially feels like an accident slowly turns out to be far more sinister. Someone is outside and wants one of them dead, armed with a sniper rifle. Over the course of 8 hours, Red and her friends must try to find a way out and survive the night. Buried secrets are forced out and there’s a chance that not everyone is going to survive the night. I feel like I need to preface this by saying I wanted to enjoy this and for the most part, it was an alright read but there are some things that didn’t sit right with me. I loved the idea of them being stuck in an RV in the middle of the woods with a sniper watching them. It was fast-paced enough, spanning 8 hours but there were some parts where it dragged. Despite forced secrets being one of the main aspects, it felt like it took a while for them to come out. At times, the plot felt a bit too mature for the characters. They’re meant to be 16/18 but some of the things that happened felt a little unrealistic. Also, I felt like the fact that it was called five survive felt like I was waiting for something to happen to one of them, since there were 6 of them to start with. It’s almost like you know something bad is going to happen to one of them. "we dream of carving our dragon." assassin's quest by robin hobb ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ buckle up people, to embark on the weirdest quest ever through the mountains, with the most random group of people you could ever imagine! it's been almost a month since i finished this book and i'm still thinking about it. all you people on goodreads who called this book boring, or gave up after the first half are missing out big time (also you need to admit that you just hate fun!) in all seriousness, i do understand some of the criticism, because, admittedly nothing really happens, except people walking to different places. it's also very solitary, most of the characters don't join in the story until like halfway through the book, so i understand that people who are used to fast-paced novels might find this a little disappointing (especially since it's a conclusion to a trilogy). HOWEVER. as a lover of slow-paced, character-driven and slowburn stories, i was having the time of my life. i love it when actions have long-term consequences. and after the ending of the second book? the way this one started out was necessary. was it hard to read? yes. was it crucial for the character development? ABSOLUTELY. not to mention, it also made the second half of the book even better. let it be known, i am now the biggest fan of quests. we need more fantasy stories about groups of people who are not exactly found family, but instead have the weirdest relationships to one another and are also forced to work together. speaking of which, i was also positively baffled. i think i experienced the opposite of queerbaiting while reading this series. i know people were going on and on about the relationship between Fitz and the Fool, but considering that these books were written in the 90s, i thought it's going to be some vague romantic feelings, "up for interpretation", etc. what i was not expecting, is that they are FOR REAL. what do you mean there's a love confession and also a discussion on the importance of gender while they are trekking through the mountains? also dragons. they are always cool, but the way they're depicted here, is THE most unique concept i have ever seen in fantasy.
A man Called Ove, Rating: ✯✯✯✯.5/5 Fredrik Backman is my favorite author, and there’s a strong and supported reason behind it. It’s been a while since I read “A Man Called Ove,” and this is absolutely my favorite read of all time. This book is about a grumpy old man, Ove, whose life is turned upside down when new neighbors move in and disrupt his routine. Under The Whispering Door - TJ Klune - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Klune has done it again - he’s created an immersive reality with truly loveable characters. I think he’s become an auto-buy author for me and I can’t wait to see which of his books I pick up next. When Wallace Price has a reaper come and collect him at his own funeral, it’s only then that he realises that he may very well be dead. Instead of being taken to the afterlife, his reaper takes him to a house in the middle of the woods: Charon’s Crossing Tea and Treats. The tea is hot and the dead are just passing through. Here, Wallace meets Hugo who promises to help him cross over and Wallace reluctantly accepts. Wallace initially struggles but as he grows closer to Hugo and the other ghostly residents, he starts to realise that maybe he let life pass him by whilst he was too busy working. Desperate to make the most of things, Wallace becomes determined to recreate a life in just seven days. Listening to this as an audiobook made all the difference. It truly amuses me when one narrator is capable of many voices so that the characters become distinct in their own way. Wallace really and truly grew on me. When the book first started, I wasn’t sure if he was capable of redeeming himself and changing his ways but his redemption arc was perfect. It just goes to show that people can change and maybe sometimes they need a second chance. This was a little heavier than the first Klune book I read: The House in the Cerulean Sea. Klune does such an artful job of navigating heavy and difficult topics in a way that does them justice but also doesn’t minimise them to just sentences in a paragraph. This book was so wholesome and heartwarming. I truly adored all the characters. Celui-ci s'adresse à la jeunesse et ça se ressent dans le traitement de l'histoire et du personnage. On découvre une jeune Méduse qui ne connaît pas encore le pouvoir de son regard, démunie, dépassée par les événements qui l'ont conduite sur cette île. L'arrivée de Persée, jeune homme séduisant, un peu perdu lui aussi, va chambouler sa vie. J'ai été assez surprise de la tournure des événements de ce roman, je n'aurai peut-être pas pris cette direction, mais pourquoi pas. C'est une bonne manière de découvrir la mythologie (même si c'est moins fidèle), avec une héroïne finalement assez proche des ados de nos jours, donc c'est facile pour s'identifier à elle. Book 67 of the year The Husbands by Holly Gramazio 🧸🧸 This had such a comical premise I really wanted to like it. Lauren arrives home from her friends hen do to a strange man in her house. He is her husband, and she has no recollection of marrying him, but there in their house and on her phone is their history. Even more strangely, when he goes up in the attic, someone new comes down. She quickly realises that her attic is providing her with a supply of husbands. Send one back, and another one comes down. This was actually funny at first, and I enjoyed how the story was evolving. Lauren could be quite shallow and sent some of the husbands back almost immediately, but I think everyone would be in that sort of situation. What became quite tedious was the number of times that it happened in the end while she was on her quest to find a husband she could settle with. I did wonder how she would get out of the loop and given a perfectly good opportunity about two-thirds of the way through she still decided to send him back up and this is where it become ridiculous for me. There were a couple of times it became too far-fetched and unbelievable, and even though I was about 30 pages from the end, I did consider stopping, but I finished it. I think there were so many ways this could have gone, and it could have been a lot funnier. I don't know if the situations she found herself in towards the end were meant to be comical in a 'I can't believe this is happening way,' but I didn't see it like that. It was disappointing overall in the end. Infatti con Manson e Lucas subito mi sono piaciuti , specialmente per il passato che li lega molto sulla violenza domestica. Come coppia mi è piaciuto come hanno interagito con lei. Poi abbiamo Jason , il ragazzo dai capelli blu scappato da una famiglia dai concetti religiosi che lo ha portato come Jess a togliersi la maschera che gli è stato imposto.
