✨️ Book Review ✨️ Read this prequel novella last night 🌙 As I found it on my Kindle library. For a short novella, it was really charming. It had some harsher elements, but as someone who rather enjoyed Percy Jackson, I found it good. Seeing a female lead in greek mythology was a nice surprise. The world building was easily and nice to read. As it is a run-up book to the book series, it did a good job of building tension and leaving you on a cliffhanger. In her grief, she calls his phone and surprisingly, he picks up and they’re able to talk to each other again, and Sam helps Julie throughout the book to process his death and learn how to move on with her life. I was immediately hooked with the way the narrative began flitting from memory to memory about how Julie met and learned to love Sam, and I thought that this book would be an instant tearjerker. Sadly, it didn’t move me as much as I thought it would, and I don’t think that was because of the writing itself because Dustin Thao’s prose is so good and I loved the way he transitioned between memories and reality. I actually think it was because of the narrator of the audiobook, who had only one tone, which was: sad. The inflection in her voice never changed, even though Julie has happy and angry and sad moments, and I think it messed with the way I interpreted the story and the moods Dustin Thao had meant to convey. One day, I’ll pick up a physical copy and I think I’ll enjoy it more, but this time around it earned 3 stars. But I do think it’s a worthwhile read, especially if you’re going through a period of grief and you’re trying to understand how to move on when someone dies 💜 #youvereachedsam #dustinthao

✨Ｂｏｏｋ Ｆｉｆｔｙ Ｆｉｖｅ✨ I was unsure about this when I started it as I’d seen a lot of mixed reviews. It started off strong - it piqued my interest pretty early on & I found Miyoung to be a really interesting & well rounded character full of mystery. But then it started to get a bit messy around the half way mark. It was sort of like the author decided to cram loads in and add extra plot twists and it felt messy and disorganised which was a shame as up until that point, it had held my attention. It picked up but then fell short at the ending. It’s definitely one of those books where if you need to be satisfied with everything that’s gone on and how things have wrapped up, you have to read the next book in the series. Which I hate. I’m all for cliff hangers and books leading into the next one etc, but don’t leave so much unanswered - it made me feel like the author didn’t know how to tie up all the lose ends they’d created. It just felt scrappy. While I enjoyed reading it, some iterations felt unnecessary and dragged the plot at times. Coming to the writing, just like the first book in the series the writing is bejewelled with the author's characteristic style. It blends the flow of the story and interplay of characters so well. It does takes some time to get used to the writing but it's worth it. This is almost a two hundred and fifty pages book but it's pacey thus took me very short time to finish it. My Rating: 3.5/5

BOOK REVIEW "The Mime Order", Samantha Shannon My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Goodreads Average Rating: 4.2 I'm usually quite slow at getting through book series, but something about this one makes me want to keep going, despite the hefty size of each instalment. This second book is set exclusively in London, and while I missed Oxford and the dark academia-dystopia setting of "The Bone Season", I thoroughly enjoyed following Paige and her friends as they traverse familiar central London streets. I found the first 100 pages painfully slow, and kept waiting for the inciting event that would catapult Paige onto a fresh journey or quest. When I realised, however, that the London gang narrative is the novel's main event, rather than a jumping-off point to something else, I was able to settle in and enjoy it. Shannon's world-building is incredibly detailed (some might consider it tediously overdone), and I loved immersing myself in this dystopian, supernatural world. With gangs, ghosts, aliens, and clairvoyants, there's never a dull moment in this crowded and exciting plot. Paige is a likeable protagonist, Jaxon makes for an intriguingly changeable father figure/villain, Nick is lovely, and while Arcturus has little to do in this instalment aside from appear briefly whenever Paige needs a spot of training or romance, I was always happy to see him. This is a slow-moving novel, and I think it's probably too long, but somehow I couldn't put it down. I can’t really say more, this is definitely a go into it blind book. But if home invasion is a trigger then this is probably not a book for you. Wow. Ok so first of all when I finished this book I gave it 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I thought it was written very well, and I will tell you why: Mostly because I hated reading this book, it was making me so angry. But I could not stop reading this book. At no point did I want to stop reading it. I was just incredibly frustrated with where things were going and the not knowing. So the way the author pieced this story together was brilliantly done. The intensity was high and the stakes were crazy. I chose not to read this book at night. 😂 Don’t need to freak myself out and I enjoy my sleep immensely. . Thanks to my buddies who buddy read this one with me! Es ist eine so unglaubliche Geschichte mit einem so tollen Thema und dennoch ein Tabu in der Gesellschaft. Es ist so wichtig, dass das Age Gap aufgegriffen wurde aber diesmal anders als erwartet. Eine ältere Frau verliebt sich in einen jüngeren Mann, was ein Skandal. Wäre es anders, würde es keinen interessieren. Die Storyline zwischen Solène und Hayes, war für mich einfach wundervoll. Ich hatte Liebe, Selbstfindung aber auch Verlust und nichts anderes erlebt man wenn man liebt. Es sollte von der Gesellschaft aufgehört werden zu bewerten, wer wen lieben darf. ✨When Women Ran Fifth Avenue by Julie Satow✨ A huge thank you to @netgalley and @doubledaybooks for the eARC. Pub date is June 4! Why I Chose It: Books about trailblazing females always grab my attention. This book took me back to the glitz and glamour of New York City in the 20th Century. This book was expertly researched, and it was organized in a way that felt like a story, not a textbook. While I know history is tied together, I found it fascinating that this history was so interwoven with WWI, the Great Depression, WWII, etc. The author did a fantastic job of tying all these events together with what was going on in department stores. I loved finding out little things like why revolving doors were added and why things were positioned like they were. The sociological aspect of this book was a real winner for me. This story was anchored by three women - Hortense Odlum, Dorothy Shaver, and Geraldine Stutz - but the author also highlighted many more women who made their name in the fashion industry. All in all, this was a book that revered women in fashion and highlighted them so that their contributions won’t be forgotten. Under the christmas tree by Robyn Carr. This is another "Christmas special" of the Virgin River book series. It's a rather short one though, only 93 pages. According to Goodreads, it should story-wise fit between the seventh and eight book, but I couldn't really tell if that was so. It didn't really matter because the main characters were town vet Jerry and a woman named Annie. The story begins with her stopping by Virgin River on her way to visit her parents for Christmas holidays, and she witnesses the Sheridans' son, David, find a litter of puppies abandoned under the christmas tree outside. Annie is instantly hooked and decides she must help the dogs survive and of course Jerry will help her as well. But here I am, jumping in and committing. I feel like this will be a fun and unique way to share my current reads, and my favorite current aromatherapy.
