Comps (aka comparison titles) - how do you find them? As these rewrites for my WWII novel finish up I’ve been thinking deeply about the best comps for it 🤔 These superb war novels by Kate Quinn are some potentials, particularly THE ALICE NETWORK🔎 But I’ve just started reading another novel for book club which I think could be perfect (although it’s set during the Vietnam war, not Second World War) - I’ll share more about this book (and some of the freakishly close similarities) soon 🥰 If you’re a writer, I’d love to know how you find/choose the best comparison titles for your wips? 🤔Do you read and read and read within the genre? 🤔Do you base it on similarities of character arc? Plot? Setting? Writing style? 🪄 Kate Quinn 📖 I’ve been excited to write some thoughts on Kate Quinn’s books because she’s definitely become one of my favourite writers. I have just finished ‘Diamond Eye’ which tells the story of Mila, a young Russian student & mother who signs up to become a sniper during the WW2 invasion of Russia. Whilst this wasn’t my favourite of her stories (4*, so still excellent), it’s based on a true story of the sniper who befriended Eleanor Roosevelt. ‘The Rose Code’ was the book that introduced me to Quinn and it’s firmly one of my favourite books ever. It tells the story of the women who served as code breakers in Bletchley Park in WW2. This story has everything you could want from a historical fiction; drama, romance, royals, happiness and grief. This was a solid 5* for me. ‘The Huntress’ was the second book I read of this author & I LOOOVED it! This is about a war correspondent turned nazi hunter who’s tracking down the famed female nazi murderess. Concurrently it tells the post war story of 17-year old Jordan, her widowed father and her new step mother. This one was so immersive from the get go & I devoured it. Easy easy 5*! ‘The Alice Network’ was one I had on my TBR for a long time before finally reading it. This tells the story of a female spy recruited to the real life ladies organisation in WW2, alongside an American socialite searching for her missing cousin. Again, this has everything you could possibly want from a historical fiction. Another 5*!! What I really like about these books is that they’re routed in real life stories or people that happened or existed during the war. Obviously there’s a degree of artistic license taken, but at the end of the book there’s a rundown of the real story and the characters and who influenced them. These are must reads for anyone who is looking to add some historical fiction to their TBR! Any take your fancy? ✨🫶🏼 @katequinn5975 #tbr #booksta #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #tbrlist #histoticalfiction #katequinn #diamondeye #therosecode #thehuntress #thealicenetwork #ww2 #wwII

RECENT READS: If you’ve read any of these, what did you think of them? Reading/mini review dump PT.2! (April/May) I already have a dedicated review post for The Boys in the Boat, but let me know which other book(s) you’d like full thoughts on! ~ 📚 A Fragile Enchantment by Alison Saft—-one of my most anticipated releases! Super cute & fun, loved the MC’s magic. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25 ~ 📚 The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown—-inspiring sports nonfiction and unexpected fave. See my full review post!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ~ 📚 The Alice Network by Kate Quinn—-twisty, thrilling dual timeline HF; it’s been in my shelf way too long, and I definitely want to read more from the author! I forgot how much I enjoy spy books. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 ~ 📚 The Midnight Library by Matt Haig—-Thought I’d love it, but it’s easily one of the most disappointing books I’ve read this year. ⭐️⭐️.5 ~ I’ve also *technically* been reading Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet, my students’ current units. Shakespeare is always a blast! My students recently wrote retellings and performed skits, and they got so creative❤️❤️❤️ Stats: 1 e-ARC; 1 unread owned (The Alice Network), 2 new (library was out of copies for book club). • • • #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksofig #booksofinstagram #instabooks #recentreads #springreading #bookreviews #bookishthoughts #bookcommunity #readinggoals #readingprogress #2024goodreadschallenge #booksandcoffee #coffee #coffeelover #theboysintheboat #themidnightlibrary #matthaig #afragileenchantment #alisonsaftbooks #alisonsaft #thealicenetwork #katequinn #cozy

Kate Quinn is the master of wartime historical fiction! This is an earlier book of hers and I’ve wanted to read it for a while—It was a bit of a tough read at times, but I loved learning about the true spy stories of women in WWl and WWll, and the years following both wars. It follows two women, both searching for solace (and a bit of revenge) after the terrors of war. I almost gave up on this book partway through, but I’m glad I didn’t, because I loved how this one ended! It made the tough (war was so sad and people are evil!! 😅) parts worth it. Audiobook was 👌🏻 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #thealicenetwork #katequinn #historicalfiction #basedontruestory #ww1history #ww2history #womenspies #lovestory #postwarstories #audiobooks #mrssteedreads

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #thealicenetwork by #katequinn Brilliantly told story that was thoroughly enjoyable to read. It’s 1947 & we follow Charlie, a 19 year old American on a quest to find her missing cousin Rose. She has two clues; the name of 50 year old Londoner Eve Gardiner and La Lethe, a restaurant in France where her cousin may have worked. But to understand what happened to her cousin, Eve has to reluctantly share her story during the First World War and how she came to be embroiled in La Lethe and part of the most successful spy network. The chapters jump from Charlie in 1947 and Eve in 1915, bridging the First & Second World Wars, until the two stories combine and we learn the truth of what really happened…

5/9/2024, 7:24:20 PM

Parts of this book I could hardly put down. A gritty spy narrative, intrigue, a moment in history where women used their "vulnerabilities" as strength. Other parts were very slow - and the transition between Charlie and Eve's narratives felt very jarring at times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ --- 1947. In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. She's also nursing a desperate hope that her beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war, might still be alive. So when Charlie's parents banish her to Europe to have her "little problem" taken care of, Charlie breaks free and heads to London, determined to find out what happened to the cousin she loves like a sister. 1915. A year into the Great War, Eve Gardiner burns to join the fight against the Germans and unexpectedly gets her chance when she's recruited to work as a spy. Sent into enemy-occupied France, she's trained by the mesmerizing Lili, the "Queen of Spies", who manages a vast network of secret agents right under the enemy's nose. Thirty years later, haunted by the betrayal that ultimately tore apart the Alice Network, Eve spends her days drunk and secluded in her crumbling London house. Until a young American barges in uttering a name Eve hasn't heard in decades, and launches them both on a mission to find the truth...no matter where it leads.

9/10 for both The Alice Network and The Huntress. I normally HATE pure fiction, and I still get irritated at historical-fiction because it can be cheesy and uninteresting to me. BUT, these historical-fiction books by Kate Quinn are great. Both are about WWII, Alice Network is about the network of spies in France, and Huntress is about a girl who tries uncovering her new step-mother's past life from WWII. I devoured these. I'm only giving it a 9/10 because the dialogue could be a little cheesy. #fiction #historicalfiction #wwii #holocaust #books #katequinn #thealicenetwork #thehuntress #history #bookrecommendations #fyp

“Baudelaire. We are not flowers to be plucked and shielded, Captain. We are flowers who flourish in evil.” . This book is has left me astonished to the core. This book is all about women empowerment, female heroines during the Great War (WW1) and WW. The Alice network and all the women who was engage in this espionage task was simply amazing - hats off ! I don’t have a favourite character merely because I loved them all - they are all unique in their own grief, broken in some way and holding on to courage and each other ! This book, once you have read it - it will perhaps let you cry out loud or simply leave you in pensive mood. A book that will linger around my heart and thoughts for a while. . #thealicenetwork #katequinn #historicalfiction #history #books #bookworms #bookstagram #booklover #biblio #bibliophile #bibliobibuli #read #reader #reading #readersmalaysia #instagram #instabook #instaphoto #igbooks #booksmalaysia #igreads

Today is Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, remembering the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. We share just a few of many books that share the many stories of the Holocaust. Resistance is the story of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the act of Jewish resistance to the Nazis rounding up the residents of the ghetto to be sent to the concentration camps and the gas chambers. The Devil’s Arithmetic is a book our family has read many times, telling the experience of the concentration camps and the humanity and caring found there. There are so many stories in these books that we should never forget. #read #books #holocaustremembranceday #yomhashoah #warsawghettouprising #neverforget #resistance #thedevilsarithmatic #theboyinthestripedpajamas #survivors #truestoriesofchildrenintheholocaust #irenaschildren #isitnightorday #thegreatestskatingrace #thealicenetwork #praguewinter #madelinealbright #takeabookshareabook #weneeddiversebooks #weneeddiversestories #readincolor #readincolorlittlefreelibrary #littlefreelibrary #littlefreelibrarystewards #stpeteshush #bgrandebooks #stpetersburg

Another magnificent read! This is the first @katequinn5975 book I’ve read & it certainly won’t be the last. Charlotte, goes by Charlie, and her mother visit Europe from America to take care of a little problem. While there, Charlie is bound and determined to find her cousin Rose with the help of a woman named Eve Gardiner. Eve’s man of all work, Finn Kilgore, joins the both of them in their journey to France. Eve shares her story as a spy during her time during WWI with both Charlie & Finn as they try to figure out what happened to Rose. Charlie soon discovers who she can be without the scrutiny of her parents & that even though people are broken, they deserve to be loved. #kaceesbookshelf #thealicenetwork #charliestclair #katequinn #katequinnbooks #librarybooks #libraryenthusiast #historicalfiction #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksbooksbooks

Booktime: Kate Quinn “The Alice Network” Another gem of a book by one of my favourite historical fiction authors. This time, inspired by a true story of female Allied spies fighting in France during WWI and WWII. The book explores the themes of physical and mental trauma suffered in wartime and looks into its painful repercussions in the seemingly normal peacetime reality, asking some very difficult questions. What is victory and what is defeat, and is the former ever fully attainable? What counts as heroism and courage and what – as weakness and betrayal, and why do we still tend to put the two in strictly gender-specific boxes? How to process the pain of guilt from one’s mistakes and miscalculations? And how not to drown in self-recrimination for the things that are simply beyond one’s control? These questions are all the more poignant today when war has once again shattered the delicate semblance of peace and keeps ripping our fabric of normalcy into bloody shreds. For the third year running and with no end in sight. This book puts it all into stark focus with a resounding reminder – yes, war is terrible, but evil should be resisted with everything that we have and everything that we are. There is no giving up. Although everybody hurts. And much more often than sometimes. #thealicenetwork #katequinn #book #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksofinstagram #booksofig #bookish #booklove #bookworm #reader #reading #alwaysreading #bookphotography #bookreview #lovereading #loveulife #grāmata #lasīšana #literatūra #eslasu #lasītprieks #elpojuprieku #elpojudzīvi

🌟 Book Review 🌟 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Stars Genre: Historical Fiction Just after WWII ended, Charlotte St. Clair, aka Charlie, is determined to figure out what happened to her cousin, Rose. The only clue she has is that someone named Eve Gardiner may know her whereabouts. Charlie tracks down Eve who is immensely grumpy and spends her days drunk, but when Charlie tells Eve the last place Rose worked (Le Lethe) and who Rose worked for, it spurs memories for Eve and she reluctantly agrees to help Charlie with the help of Eve's driver, Finn. This starts a dual POV, dual timeline story of Charlie, Eve, and Finn trying to find Charlie's cousin and Eve's history as a spy in WWI. I loved this book so much! Eve's story as a spy and her network of fellow female spies was fascinating and I think I audibly gasped when I realized that some of the characters and story was based on real women in World War I. Charlie gets a little bit of a bad rep from some of her behavior in the beginning, but I think it is easy to forget how young she actually is. She also grew so much during the course of the story. This is my first Kate Quinn novel, but I had heard wonderful things, and her writing did not disappoint! I also love a dual timeline read! I can't wait to dive into more of her books. 💭 Have you read any Kate Quinn books? Which one should I read next?!

Book Review • The Alice Network by Kate Quinn 3.5* •1947 Charlie St Sinclair is on a mission to find her cousin Rose who went missing in nazi occupied France during the war. She uncovers a clue as to where she could be and whilst on a trip to Europe to have her ‘little problem’ taken care of she flees to find the answers she’s desperate for. 1915 Eve Gardiner is recruited as a spy, placed under the care of Lili she comes an integral part of ‘The Alice Network’. 30 years later she lives alone, drinking away her memories of a betrayal that ultimately disbanded the network. That is until a girl knocks on her door with names and places that she hasn’t heard in decades and their journey begins.• If you love historical fiction this book is for you. It’s inspired by true events and people and the attention to detail was apparent. It’s so beautifully written, it takes you to the places it describes and the emotions felt and therefore can be an emotional read at times. But it’s beautiful, heartbreakingly so. My only critique is that it’s about 150 pages longer than it needed to be. I loved every part but it often felt repetitive and long winded and I struggled to pick it up as a result. I’m definitely going to read more of Quinn’s work because it was a beautifully written tale. Have you read this, what did you think? Have to say a huge thank you to @rebeccas_bookcase for this book as part of my @gin_and_phonics_bookclub secret Santa, a gift well loved 🫶🏻

The Alice Network - 4⭐️ “The Alice Network” was a great story, but I have been spoiled with my love for the Nightingale for historical fiction and now hold them all to that standard. I enjoyed one part of the book much more than the other. There are two storylines going on. I absolutely loved the story in 1915 but the story in 1947 was just OK for me. In the last several years women from many different walks of life and ethnicities, and their integral contributions to the arts and science are being uncovered, recognized and brought to mainstream attention in books and movies. The Alice network, operating in France, is another such contribution, taking place during the first world war and was a spy network consisting of women. Women who put themselves in grave danger to collect information that the allies could use to defeat Germany. I enjoyed the characters in this, became engrossed in their stories, such good characterizations; from the naive Charley, who shows tremendous growth during the course of this novel, to the irracible and hard drinking Eve, on to the delicious Finn, the Scotsman, well all I can say about him is be still my heart. Eve’s story takes us back to the First World War which I thought was so well done and had me always at the edge of my feet. It focused on a hen she was part of the Network and her horrific experiences at the hand of a profiteer. Charley’s story takes place in 1947, when she is looking for her cousin Rose who went missing in France. Also well written but it didn’t grip me like the other. The novel would have benefitted if the story had focused solely on Eve and the network of spies. I didn’t feel Charley’s story added anything worthwhile to the book, though I did enjoy her character. I still recommend this book to any historical fiction lover! #booknerd #bookstagram #booklover #bookaddict #book #readingupdate #read #readersofinstagram #bookgirlie #bookreview #readingaddict #adultbooks #bookstgrammer #bookworm #thealicenetwork #historicalfiction

Alicina síť - Kate Quinn Moje první kniha autorky a určitě ne poslední. #100daysofknitting Today I cast on a new pair of socks even though I already have two others on the go… in my defence I needed to feel better as I felt like my knitting brain had vacated leaving me in struggletown 😂 I also stumbled across a Facebook page where some lovely people are doing a 52 weeks of socks KAL/group. It was quite timely for me as I purchased both volume 1 and 2 last year with the intention of knitting all the socks, but it was a tad overwhelming and limited me to at home knitting as I don’t fancy carting the books around with me and I prefer my wall knitting to be relatively basic. So I have jumped right in, abandoning the first pattern in the book for the 27th so I can knit with the others in the group. Pattern: Alvar by @fiona_alice_ in the 52 Weeks of Socks (Volume 1) Yarn is from stash Because I’m also participating in @earthtonesgirl #ilovebooksandsockknittingkal24 I feel it’s also important I share what I’m reading/listening to. I’m currently listening to ‘The Alice Network’ by Kate Quinn. It’s not my usual kind of book so I’m struggling a little but it definitely has grasped my attention. #knitting #aussieknitter #australianknitter #mumwhoknits #knittersofadelaide #adelaideknitters #knittersgonnaknit #iloveknitting #addictedtoknitting #knittingmystash #zoelouknitseverywhere #bournetoknit #sockknitting @laine_publishing #52weeksofsocks #thealicenetwork @dreareneeknits

The Alice Network by Kate Quinn is my 56th book of 2024. It was the March pick for my book club. This book is historical fiction and has multiple timelines. One is set in the “present” which is a few years after WWII ends. Charlie is with child and her mother is taking her to Europe to have the problem taken care of. Charlie slips away from her mother in order to find a woman named Evelyn Gardiner who may know what happened to her cousin, Rose, during the war. The second time line follows Eve (Evelyn Gardiner) during WWI when she was recruited to by a spy in the Alice Network in Lille, France. I found the story interesting. I ended up reading about half the story and listening to the other half. I liked Charlie and Finn and enjoyed that there was a bit of a romance subplot. I also liked that Alice Network was real and that the book brought attention to it as it wasn’t something I’d heard of before. #2024Reads #2024ReadingGoal #TheAliceNetwork #KateQuinn #NotTheClassicsBookClub #AdultRead #HistoricalFiction

Title: The Alice Network Author: Kate Quinn I enjoy reading historical fiction on WWI or II because it offers diverse, creative, and unique stories in challenging times. This book is about two women: Eve, a female spy recruited into the actual Alice Network in France during WWI, and Charlie, a pregnant, unmarried 19 year girl searching for her cousin in 1947. The narrative alternates between Charlie’s story in 1947 and Eve’s in 1915. I was captivated by Eve’s story as a spy and enjoyed the portrayal of women taking on espionage roles, braving dangers to aid the war effort. However, I was not engaged with Charlie’s character and her storyline. I think this book would have been more engaging if it had solely focused on Eve’s experiences and the intricacies of the Alice Network. I’ve read several historical fictions about WWII. The best one I’ve read so far is “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah. I often find myself comparing it to other historical novels, which I shouldn’t do. I need to keep an open mind to truly enjoy them. But, I struggle with this when reading this book. Overall, the book was okay. . . 도 다운받아놨는데 (The Alice Network보다 리뷰가 더 좋다), 요즈음 page turner인 mystery and psycho thriller novels (a.k.a Freida McFadden 책들)에 대한 흥미가 조금 떨어질 때 읽어보려고 한다. . .

At over 500 pages, this is a longer read, but well worth it. Based on the real Alice Network and including some of the women who were part of the network, this dual timeline story tells of Eve's recruitment and work in Lille during WW1 and Charlie's search for her cousin Rose after WW2. 🌟🌟🌟🌟⭐ #thealicenetwork #katequinn #books #lovereading #holidayreading

Ⓐⓟⓡⓘⓛ Ⓗⓞⓟⓔⓕⓤⓛⓢ The books I'm planning on getting through this month. ➡️ Most anticipated read? The Alice Network by Kate Quinn. I buddy read my first book by this author (The Rose Code) with @luce_loves_literature at the end of last year and we both thought it was incredible. I'm so looking forward to us delving back into her work together. Little bit intimated by the 500+ word count, but I know we'll be in safe hands. 📚 Books I've already started: 📖 The Soulmate Equation (26%) I'm reading this with @thereadingspoonie It's only my second Christina Lauren novel, and although I wasn't sure at first, I think the more I read it, the more I'm getting into it. I cannot condone a main character being called Fizzy though, it is proper grating on me. 📱None of this is True (10%) I'm reading this with @emsbooks92 and @zedatron I was excited to start this, knowing how I've really enjoyed most of the books I've read by this author. It has indeed grabbed me straight away and I already want to know more and more. 📚 Books I'm carrying over from last month: 📖 The Mercies (50%) This was March's bookclub pick with the BirthdayBC girls. I did read half of it in March but I never seem to have a huge urge to pick it up after I stop which is why it's probably taking me so long to read. ❓️What is your most anticipated book in April? 🔍 Author: Kate Quinn 🔍 Book: The Alice Network 🔍 Description: A gripping historical fiction that intertwines the lives of two women across different timelines. Eve is a spy for The Alice Network in Nazi-occupied France during World War I. The Alice Network is a collection of women who gather and distribute information against the enemy, often in plain sight. Charlie is an American searching for her missing cousin in post-World War II France. Eve and Charlie cross paths, leading them on a treacherous journey to find answers they are each in need of learning. The women featured in this story are exceptionally brave and intelligent and will have you saying “one more chapter” well into the wee hours of the night. An all time favorite! Book Review 🪖 The Alice Network by Kate Quinn ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 Spotted this on audible special offer, I've had my eye on it for a long time. The story is split in two, one part set in 1915, the other in 1947. The 1915 story was so riveting and educational, the story of a network of female spies. Eve Gardiner is the protagonist, a stuttering brave lady desperate to prove herself and to be useful in the great War. We follow her story. The fact that there was so much truth to this part of the story gave it such credence. The story is based on the real-life World War I spy ring called the Alice Network, which operated in German-occupied France and Belgium. Although the protagonist Eve is fictional three real historical figures are used as characters in the novel:... Louise de Bettignies, the ring leader (code name Alice Dubois, called Lili in the book) Léonie van Houtte, her lieutenant (code name Violette Lameron in the book) Cecil Aylmer Cameron, a British Intelligence officer (called Captain Cameron and Uncle Edward in the book), who recruited both women I wasn't as committed to the 1947 parts of the story. The characters and storyline just weren't as investible even though it did give an insight into Eve Gardner life post WW1&2. However I was fascinated by the village featured in the WW2 story. Oradour dur Glane has long since fascinated me. (See pics 2 & 3). It's a village 3 hrs south of me that I've wanted to visit for a long time, but until reading this book I didn't know the full details of past. The village was destroyed on 10 June 1944, four days after D-Day, when 643 of its inhabitants, including 247 children, were massacred by a company of troops belonging to the Waffen-SS unit of the military forces of Nazi Germany. The village has never been altered since this date and has been maintained as a permanent memorial. I can barely imagine how moving it must be. I love authors of historical fiction who weave so many real life facts into their stories. I'm very grateful to @katequinn5975 for teaching me about the true history of The Alice Network ⁉️On a lighter note .. what's your spy name? (See pic 4) #bookreview #thealicenetwork #ww1 #ww2 #ww1fiction

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for The Alice Network by @katequinn5975 What a story this was. I am always captivated by history and the mark that women have made on it and I love reading stories about women’s contributions. The Alice Network is based on true events and tells a sordid, exciting, and captivating tale about the women who worked as spies and were able to pass information along undetected. With alternating POVs between one of the spies from WWI and a young girl post-WWII trying to find her family member, Eve and Charlie take the reader on an adventure that is sure to leave you both angry and elated. Angry for the way women were treated during this era, and then elated when they overcome their challenges and justify their actions. The writing and detail in The Alice Network was phenomenal. #books #reading #bookstagram #readallllthebooks #historicfiction #thealicenetwork #katequinn

“Hope was such a painful thing, far more painful than rage.” The Alice Network By Kate Quinn The Alice Network was a memorable read. The first few chapters were a little bit slow but once I reached the halfway point, the pace picked up and I eventually got engrossed in the story of female spies in Paris, France during World War 1. There are two POVs from two main characters: Charlie St. Clair in 1947 just after WW2, and Eve Gardiner in 1915. Both female MCs were fearless and heroines in their own right and I loved how their lives intertwined and how they learned from each other from their own experiences. Most of the historical fiction I’d read before were about World War 2 and I’m glad that the The Alice Network made me read up more about World War 1. This book was my first Kate Quinn and I’m not disappointed. Will I read her other books? Perhaps but not very soon because I’m aiming for reading up all the other histofic authors I have on my TBR. However, The Alice Network is a story that I think would linger in my memory for all the emotions I felt while reading it. “What did it matter if something scared you, when it simply had to be done?”✨ 4/5 stars.⭐⭐⭐⭐ 03.29.2024 #lynaireads2024 #lynaireads #KateQuinn #TheAliceNetwork #histofic #histfic #historicalFiction #worldwar1

The Alice Network by Kate Quinn Standalone Novel ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.75/5 Stars The Alice Network is a very well written, intriguing historical fiction novel. It follows two women and their stories through two different time periods and how they overlap. I have debated a long time how to rate this book because based on writing and content it is probably more of 4.5/5 stars, but my feelings on this book is more of 3/5 stars. It has a found family trope, strong female characters, goes against societal norms of the time, and some characters are based on real people. I do think the plotline from WW1 with the female spies was my favorite part to read in this book. The 1945 storyline with Charlie, I struggled with more. Charlie is supposed to be a mathwiz, with little interest in marriage or being a stereotypical woman of the time. However, as the story progresses, she does feel like a stereotypical 1945 woman. The overall story of dealing with grief, PTSD, depression, and so much more is very well done. I am glad I read this book for the 1915 storyline and how it all comes together in the end with Charlie in 1945, but I don't think I would reread it. #thealicenetwork #katequinn #standalone #historicalfiction #ww1 #ww2 #booksbooksbooks #bookstagram

⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Alice network tells a story from two perspectives, one a spy during WWI and the second of a girl named Charlie who set out to find her long lost cousin after WWII. As the two stories are told, they begin to overlap and eventually are brought into the same time period. The book was alright to me, nothing really stood out or was so crazy good that I would recommend it to someone else. The first half was too long and had too much build up until it finally got to the second half where the story line picked up. I found out at the end during the authors note that the book is based off of real spies during WWI with the same names as the women in the book. Maybe if I had known that from the start then I would have liked it more 🧐

𝑾𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖?” WHY?? That’s what I asked myself after reading The Alice Network. Why did I wait so long to read it? I’ve had a digital copy on my Kindle for years but my husband gave me a physical copy for Christmas because “the lady at the bookstore said it was really good.” So I finally picked it up and from the first sentence, “The first person I met in England was a hallucination.”, I was hooked. I was completely facinated by the 1915 story line of Eve Gardiner (fictional character) and the “queen of spies,” Louise de Bettingnies (Lili in this book), leader of the Alice Network, whose code name was Alice Dubois. This timeline, though told through a fictional character, was full of real-life heroes and their stories of espoinage and betrayal. Finished this one a while back and forgot to share it! I discovered Kate Quinn when one of her books was listed on our Chapter Night Book Club voting list. That book ultimately wasn’t voted in (I voted for it!) but I headed to my favorite used bookstore @chamblinsbooks and picked up The Rose Code and The Alice Network. Given that my favorite genre is historical fiction, these weren’t a hard sell for me. I gave The Rose Code 5 stars and give The Alice Network 4.5. This one jumps between WWI and WWII, following a female spy for The Alice Network, which was a real life group of female spies who worked for the British during WWI in the area of Lille, France, gathering information about German troop movements and battle plans. Several of the characters in the book are based on actual historical figures in the network. This story did not disappoint, and I always enjoy learning about the real story behind the story in historical fiction novels. #whatimreading #katequinn #thealicenetwork #bookstagram #booksofinstagram
