YINyoga ~ saddle pose Saddle pose in YINyoga is very beneficial for our bodies that spend so much time bent forward and slumping. This pose stretches the psoas muscle (also called muscle of the soul), which is most stressed from all the sitting. Being tightly connected to our nervous system, taking good care of this muscle is a must ;) Other muscle groups that are stretched in this pose are the quadriceps and the long abdominal muscles while the spine is bent backwards. As in every YINpose, also the fascia and all other 'less elastic' tissues are stretched, like tendons and (T)bands. Unfortunately the full expression of this pose, as seen in the upper drawing, is not for every body. Especially many knees complain and that means a no-go for this pose. Luckily there are many beautiful alternatives for Saddle pose. In my drawing you see the option to do it one leg at a time or to lie on the side and stretch one leg backwards. Why is money important? How can money be regenerative? How can money be part of holistic way of living? How can money heal? These are questions I’ve been thinking deeply about for the past several years. I grew up poor. I’m part of a generational cycle of poor women without options. My mother tried, and failed to leave a relationship that kept her in a pattern of drug abuse and low self esteem. She literally died because of it (don’t worry, I’ve done lots of therapy and healing around this, we’ve made our peace). She died because she lived in economic trauma, unable to support her six children, with only a GED. My grandmother had a similar story, minus the hard drugs, but add alcoholism. Ten kids. Couldn’t leave. Economic trauma. For me, receiving money for doing what I love (facilitating transformation, enhancing life flow, helping people to shine their bright light and share their gifts with the world), is a way of breaking generational cycles of economic trauma. I get to provide a new model for my child. They get to see that they have choices that weren’t available to my grandmother, mother, and even to me at their age. I also get to reinvest in my community. I get to support other local businesses. I get to provide an excellent quality of life for my employees. I get to be generous. I lived very poor (starving artist poor, birthright poor, don’t know any other way poor), for the first four-plus decades of my life. I decided, at age 46 (within a week of turning 46!), that I wanted to do it differently. I declined my socioeconomic inheritance and opted for the unfamiliar. But not at the expense of all the gifts and knowledge I’d picked along the way. I decided to do it sustainably, thoughtfully, and generously. To have enough—enough that the qi dynamic of sustainability and flow were part of the equation. To do it in a way that the healing money offers doesn’t stop with me and my family, but can be regenerative to our communities, near and far. What’s your money story? Being OVER IT is a great symptom to have--it can point to the root cause of boredom or burnout, or meh, or to something else entirely. Mostly, it means you are ready for a CHANGE. Whatever the root cause, being un-inspired, and "over it" is simply a request to re-examine what you are deeply committed to. The disharmony shows up as being OVER IT--because you have grown and developed and changed, and thus you've outgrown your current way of moving through your practice and life. Here are some of the things I am hearing people are OVER: -Insurance reimbursement rates -Late cancellations -Not making enough money, no matter how hard you are working -Doing everything yourself, and not receiving support in ways that feel nourishing to you -Patients saying "I'm not sure this is working" and then canceling their appointments -Employees who have no idea how hard you are working to get them patients These are all legit "symptoms" that some systems, policies, or approaches are "off" and the symptoms are pointing you to make some changes. Good news, bad news, right? Trust me, it's actually good news. Wrapped in a cranky liver. I can help. This is what I help people with. Addressing those symptoms, addressing the underlying pattern, so that you and your practice feel GOOD! (and so does your bank account!). Lychee fruit (荔枝 Fructus Litchi) is good representation of fire energy, which sits right in between wood and earth energies in the production cycle. Looking for a gentle way to increase your flexibility and mobility? Come and try the beautiful practice of qigong. Qigong is designed to increase fluidity in the joints through coordinated breathing and repetition of movements. Rather than holding deep stretches or postures for longer period of time, Qigong provides gentle, fluid movements that are easy on the muscles and the joints. This allows you to expand your flexibility and increase the range of motion in your arms, legs, hips and shoulders, little by little. It is a perfect, low-impact practice for anyone with limited mobility, or who may struggle with the intensity of other forms of practice. Qigong can help alleviate muscle soreness, tension and stress in the body, and aid in the prevention of injuries such as joint pain and back issues. I hold weekly qigong classes online over Zoom every Thursday at 7:30pm MST. There is also a replay that will follow within 24 hours and remain available for 14 days.
