It was about 12 years ago our co-founder and CEO Alex Bailey first met Joshua French. "We were both at an Action for Happiness volunteer meet up at the beautiful Earth and Stars pub in Brighton. The study found little to no change in participants’ atheist-believer status or metaphysical beliefs, despite previous research indicating that psychedelic experiences can influence such beliefs. The researchers caution that while psilocybin can change how we perceive the world, concerns about it being used to “convert” people’s beliefs may be exaggerated. Because we are an observer of our own experience. 💥 And that because we think something it must be true. Therefore we think that what we need in any given moment is what we actually need. But how many times do people around you tell you something different? About the way they see you, hear you, and what they think you need? And how often does that make you feel better? Psychologically Adapt, Then Act Psychological Flexibility is our ability to mentally adapt to situations to better manage ourselves in them. By concentrating on what’s at hand or at the time, without overthinking or immediately forming an opinion or judging, we can counter the level of stress and emotional reaction we experience, and feel more ability than reactivity. Accept whatever emotions that arise without trying to sublimate or avoid them. Rather, recognize those feelings, then try to understand what precipitated them, make sense from them, in order to improve yourself, manage how you handle yourself, in a way that aligns with your values and isn't blind reflex. Having an open or flexible mind is said to allow one to take on different perspectives, and approach challenges in new, more-effective ways than before. You can be aware of what is happening in your environment and the present vs. getting stuck on what’s in the past or what could be in the future, two things out of our hands; and therefore concentrate your attention and mental resources on what matters at the moment. A flexible psychology can be cultivated through exposing yourself to new things, views, people; and nurturing mindfulness for your awareness of what’s happening around and yourself. Como paciente y como profesional, siempre me he percatado del impacto de la falta de habilidades de empatía y de inteligencia emocional por parte de aquellos que NO están sufriendo de dolor emocional, pero que les toca lidiar con él de alguna manera, ya sea como familia, amig@s, e incluso como profesionales de la salud. Les exigimos mucho a los clientes que aprendan, en grupos o terapia, habilidades y destrezas de flexibilidad psicológica. Pero no les exigimos lo mismo a aquellos que los rodean y que "quieren que se sientan mejor." Aprender a no querer "arreglar" el dolor de otros para sentirnos mejor nosotros mismos es también una habilidad que se le debe exigir y enseñar a la población general fuera del ambiente clínico. Books are incredible resources for promoting open discussion of challenging topics, ways to practice moving into values, and connection between you and your child. There are also added benefits of promoting cognitive and social emotional development. We, like many, have fallen in love with this rhyming storybook that captures the challenges of living with health and dietary challenges. This book teaches children about practicing flexibility and learning how to see ourselves as more than our “parts”. It certainly helps that this book is written by a child psychologist with chronic health conditions who knows firsthand how challenging life can be and how to flexibly move towards fullness in living. A quick crash course on caddying for a Korn Ferry event this week for @sean_walsh14 , turns out you need to be able to do quick maths on the golf course as a caddie 😅.
