This was the salt circle blend that I made for the full moon in Scorpio! Eclipse season overlapping with Mercury's retrograde was kind of a double whammy, so I focused first on ingredients that would purify all the emotional crap that had been purged as the base. Then I added components that would help me feel more secure in my boundaries, as that's what I'm currently working on in my own life. I did the cleansing at night, under the light of the full moon, and I felt SO much better the next morning. This was the first time I worked with lily in my craft and I really appreciated what she brought to the blend. Mugwort - Purple Dead Nettle - Bittersweet Nightshade These are the blooms growing among the ecosystem in our yard. April is a flurry of seeds, a growing time. But it is also a blooming time. The mugwort plants are in their 5th generation of growth. Each year it teaches me something new. The message this season came early. Noticing the growth around the stems, wondering if the foxglove will be a companion to them this year. Purple dead nettle is biannual, when it popped up in a frenzy 2022, I was so excited to learn about it. But promptly became too busy. I searched and searched for it last year. Which spurred my research. I know the basics, this year is listening and communing. Bittersweet nightshade is working on making its berries, it's vines are strong and comfortable. Hello everyone it’s been a while, it’s herb lore time 🌿 Spring has returned to us once more, the sun shines brightly as the days get longer bringing us closer to the summer. Calendula comes to mind as a reminder of solar energy due to its warm bright orange color, Calendula’s botanical name is Calendula officinalis and it’s a member of the daisy family (same as some of my favorite herbs like chamomile, chickweed and feverfew). Calendula is famous first and foremost for its ability to aid the skin, whether that’s cuts, bruises, inflammation or some burns (please for the love of gods seek a doctor if it’s severe), it’s also great for soothing digestive issues paired with supporting the immune system. This is truly one of the prettiest, kindest, most lush and loving time of year for nature-loving folk on the Left Coast. Go out and walk amongst your plants, touch their emerging foliage. whisper your adoration to them. Clear out the weeds and bless them for contributing to the soil web in life and continuing to feed the soil as compost. Harvest fronds of young lettuce and cleavers, asparagus spears if you’re lucky enough to have them, peas and favas, and all the flowers we find ourselves immersed in. Invoke the birds (and give them a bird bath). Place mushrooms you find pushing up through the soil upon your altar. Delight and delve. There is truly no better time to be a greenwitch in the garden. Finally got a new tradescantia after my old one was a casualty of the move. You can't tell from the photos but she's so sparkly. She's my favourite plant to care for because of how quickly she grows and how easy she is to propagate. She's going on Brigid's altar for now at least.
Stocking my medicine cabinet ~ I avoid taking synthetic drugs as much as possible. I believe in the body’s natural ability to heal. However, the body needs to be supported and nourished to function in its optimal level. I don’t subscribe to any dietary programs, I practice the old adage “everything in moderation, even moderation.” I believe that eating healthy, clean food AND engaging in regular, consistent exercise routine is the only way to maintain good physical health. I took these photos a couple weeks ago when I was on a walk to collect pinecones. Imagine my delight coming across the cutest lil baby cones on this beautiful tree. The eastern hemlock is a variety of spruce native to North America. Unlike the flower of the same name, this tree is not poisonous! You could even make a delicious tea from its needles that would be an excellent source of vitamin C. Interestingly enough, it was not as easy as it usually is to discover this tree's magickal properties. It seems to have been often overlooked by practitioners throughout history for other members of the conifer family. But that does not mean this beauty does not deserve recognition. This tree is slow-growing, and like its relative the pine, hints at an elder wisdom residing within.
