Jupiter’s Day I would love to say that I can feel the expansion of this day, but I am still in the contraction part. Slowly cutting away to make more space for what is to come. My heart is heavy with our world which makes me feel guilty to create, engage, or even post - but I know the more I show up the more I can help myself and other shift. If you’re in the same space, I welcome you with open arms. I woke up this morning and took time with my routine to get it back on track. After I wrote down the things I had on my head and heart, I made my list of business things. I forgot how effective this can be for me. Success is the child of discipline. As I got finished with that I had a moment with the trees, the air, and even my local wildlife. I stretched the body and out came, “Thank you for this day. Life often feels like one big blur when you’re struggling through adversity - it can make you feel untethered. When I worked, there was more of a structure to my days and weeks - more routine and focus. Since illness put a stop to this, I’d often get this feeling that I was drifting through life, unaware of the time, or the day of the week. Reconnecting with my witchcraft practice reminded me what an anchor it can be, to help ground me in the moment. I spoke a bit about this in a recent post about honouring the moon cycles. Another way I keep myself grounded, and honour the passing of time, is by acknowledging the planetary ruler for each day of the week. I do this by wearing a colour that’s associated with the relevant planet (and also by carrying or wearing a crystal that’s traditionally linked to that particular planet). Sometimes, it’s a full outfit; other times it’s a pair of socks or a small accessory - it doesn’t need to be complicated. On Mondays, I wear something white for the emotional, intuitive energy of the Moon. Orange or red represents active Mars on a Tuesday. Wednesday is multicoloured to represent the energy of Mercury, the ruler of ideas and communication. Blue or purple is worn for the optimistic ruler of Thursday, which is Jupiter. Green is for creative, beauty-loving Venus on a Friday. Black represents structured, disciplined Saturn on a Saturday. Yellow or gold is for the warming glow of the Sun on a Sunday. Today, I’m wearing (a very well loved!) green dress, and I’m also wearing my favourite Rose Quartz crystal necklace, as Rose Quartz is very much associated with Venus. For anyone who’s interested in finding out more about bringing a bit of colour/planetary magick to their day, I highly recommend allcrystal.com for some great reference guides on planetary associations. I fully appreciate this will sound a bit too out there to some, but it really does help me to feel grounded, and you just have to do whatever works for you when you find yourself going through traumatic or adverse circumstances. Edible sunshine 🌞 We love our dandelions! 🦁💛 As far as “weeds” go, in our area these guys are far less aggressive than the buttercups, which choke out everything. I make fritters (see photos) and cake out of dandelion flowers, and we put greens in a salad. A deep breath lifts my breasts. And open my mouth while I exhale. Thoughts turn to everyday matters. So many things to do. I look at those thoughts like I look at the children playing in a puddle. I called my mom and stated loud and clear…without guilt or shame. I’m supposed to be writing. I’m supposed to be painting. I’m supposed to be planning my yoga class for Sunday. I’m supposed to be building my platform in order to be more marketable for publishers. I’m supposed to be reaching out to more artists for donations, and finding a place that will donate their space for our art show and auction. I’m supposed to be doing a lot of things. But every time I try to do any of those things, I log on and am met with atrocity after atrocity. A young, Black, Autistic boy was shot dead by the police—another one. The slaughter of Palestinians continues. The Israeli hostages still have not been released. Trump is the Republican candidate. AGAIN. And these are just the top four right now. Let’s not forget the billions of non-human animals suffering at this very moment as well. It’s too much. So instead of doing all of the things I am supposed to be doing, I am instead, making mo jo bags. Also known as charm bags and medicine bags, amongst other things. I handsew mine and include an intention or a prayer, as well as herbs, crystals, and anything else that might uplift that intention. I don’t know what else to do. So I practice my magick. And tomorrow I’ll get back to all of the things I’m supposed to do. Maybe.
