We can play a significant role in reducing HIV stigma and discrimination by offering our support to those that need it and by also speaking out to correct those myths and stereotypes that we hear others say about HIV and HIV positive individuals. It is important to learn which words can have a negative meaning and impact for people that are at risk for or living with HIV and what words are empowering. Be mindful about what you say or don’t say and be aware on how it impacts others. This is some other ideas on how you can stand up to HIV stigma: - Learn more about HIV. Educate yourself and educate those around you. - Get involved. If you are able to, participate, volunteer and/or give your time to HIV related efforts. - Get inspired! View personal stories of people that are living healthy lives and are HIV positive. - Listen. It is important to listen and let yourself be educated when needed.
