This is my bell pepper plant! 🫑 I planted this one quite a long time ago... to be precise, I planted the seeds while still living in my parents' house. It came along to the new house, but then it looked much worse, really, but still had green leaves, so I didn't want to throw it away. Now, since the weather got warmer and with good care, it actually started growing again! It even got its first bloom, as you can see in the picture. 🌸😍 I can't wait to start on my vegetable garden again. There's a bit of a wait still, but on the day of my birthday (29th of July), they will start on our front and back garden at our house. Cherry Blossoms this time of year are an annual thrill in every way. Admittedly, of all the places I’ve lived, Bend arguably has the worse display of these pink bursts. Not that it is its fault, really. Blame it on the desert, got the buds feelin’ curt, Blame it on the ‘climate, got the flowers feelin’ quiet, Blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-altitude. Blame it on the dry-y-y-y-y-y-y heat-t-t-t-t-t-t. But whatever the reason: There’s not too many cherry blossoms here relative to the likes of SF and PDX. But I do have one humble little tree in my front yard that scratches that itch a bit. And, I again, feel grateful to stare at these pink beauties for a little bit. Especially this year where I have tremendously realized how little I actually know about gardening and how much I’d like to learn as we till our own soil and repurpose our yard. It's all about learning in the garden, and sometimes that means facing setbacks. 😔 Sadly, my 20 lavender plants, which I painstakingly grew from seed and transplanted last year, didn't make it through the winter. ❄️ Whether it was the lack of snow cover or my pruning timing, I'm not sure, but it's a reminder that nature has its own plans. While I'm sad to say goodbye to my lavender patch, I'm also excited about the new possibilities. The extra 5x5 feet space opens up opportunities for fresh blooms and experimentation. 🌸✨ As much as I adore lavender, I think it's time to explore different plants for now. Gardeners, I salute you.... Swipe for the befores... After several weekends toiling (I did over 28,000 steps in one day) we have 2 beds with things growing in them!! The bed that never was on the far left will have to be left for another day - when I can face moving wet logs. We massively underestimated how much compost we needed so the bed on the far right will have to wait a week or 2 (beans, peas, sweetcorn, tomatoes). I'm knackered, I'm excited, I'm also a complete novice. Hopefully I can keep things alive 👃 (Need to do better on my camera work! I think I'll stick to stills 😅)

I am rushing back and forth in my backyard, feeling like I'm managing an acre of a farmland.😂. But in reality, it is nothing less than that. A food garden, however small or big there is always something to cultivate, prune, compost, harvest, and prepare for the next season before you know it. Over the past 2 days, I have been clearing out some of the pots that I have finished harvesting from. I remove all the roots, add my bokashi compost, dried leaves, and a bit of cow manure, then let it rest until the next season, that is September. Here are some key things to keep in mind for growing them during the hot months: Sunlight and Location: While Hippeastrums generally love sunlight, the harsh afternoon sun in India can be damaging. Opt for a spot with at least 6 hours of morning sun and provide some shade during the hottest part of the day. Watering: Consistent moisture is crucial, but avoid waterlogging. Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry. Early morning watering is ideal to allow the plant to absorb water before the heat. Soil: Hippeastrums prefer well-draining, fertile soil. You can mix regular potting mix with ingredients like compost or manure for added nutrients and drainage. Been a quiet week on here but still lots happening in the garden!! Managed to get some Sweet Peppers and leeks from my stepmum so waiting to plant those out! The work on the patio continues with the setting sand, it’s a long process with lots of grunt work but pics of before, during and after make it worth it as it does look so much better 😍 Veggies are doing well and I’ve had to earth up my potatoes again so that makes me happy that they’re growing well! Cabbages are under attack from pigeons I think so back to being netted!! Water butt is fitted and my lovely dad has fitted guttering to the shed so should catch lots of water now, especially with these insane April showers!! Greenhouse is looking good and we have lift off with my Cosmos and Cornflour seeds plus I HAVE MY FIRST DAHLIA!!! I’m so excited about this, I’ve loved them for a long time but never grown one so the fact anything is happening is making me so happy! 🌱💀 Everything got eaten Mate 💀🌱 •• I lost all the broad beans I sowed in December, then lost the broad beans I sowed in Jan and Feb. I planted strong plants in the ground and they got eaten. Thought it was pigeons, so covered them but the slugs and snails ate them 🦜🐌 •• Then I sowed lettuces, and the slugs and snails ate them. Then they ate the sorrel, and the basil and spinach, and the parsley. They ate them all 🐌🐌 •• But it’s okay. I have tomatoes and chillies, and melons and kale and cucumbers and okra growing at home. When they are bigger, I will take them to the allotment for the slugs and snails to eat 🐌🌱 •• But I did harvest some purple sprouting broccoli, and some rhubarb and peas for me to eat.
