✨REVIEW ✨I WAS NOT READY FOR THIS BOOK ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ x a million *spoilers ‼️ Where do I even begin with this book it was such a journey to watch Feyre grow into herself, while dealing with trauma she also has to accept that she died for her love only to realise he never really loved her at all, not the way she needed. Enter Rhysand!! This gorgeous broken man who has had to endure so much my heart literally cracked wide open for him and I wanted to climb into the book and give him a hug 💔 (or be his mate Im not fussy 🤪) I knew from book one I loved him even though he was the ‘bad guy’ and the moment i realised it was him that sent that music to her cell I knew just knew that he was who she belonged with (trying not to give too much away here) the links between book one and two are so cleverly thought out and I’m just sad I’ve wasted YEARS of not knowing this author existed. QOTD: Which book series cover design are you currently obsessed with? 📚🌸✨🏒 There is something about the Playing for Keeps series by Becka Mack that is so beautiful. I love the cover art, how they are different but still connect and they sit so well together on my shelf. Even @chantellerose._bookstagram is obsessed, she couldn’t stop photographing them when she borrowed them recently 🤭 The series itself is also incredible. I honestly went into it with little expectation as I’d seen those book everywhere but it didn’t really grab me I WISH I HAD READ IT SOONER. @authortilliecole has written a beautiful love story about soulmates and grief so beautifully in fact that I felt it with each character. Rune Is just every single girls dream of love. This book also shows you how beautiful life is and reminds us of the little things we take for granted each day. This is happiness and sadness combined as well as love and anger all at once. It’s the kind of book you feel hungover from when you finish it, I just can’t put into words how incredible this story is. Storm of Steel by Ernst Jünger This book is a memoir written by German soldier Ernst Jünger and details his experiences fighting in France during The Great War/World War One. It begins with Jünger’s military training and shows the mindset of young patriotic Germans eager to fight but unaware of the horrors and carnage brought about by total war. We see this transition from a green mindset and follow Jünger as he not only matures from that idealistic mindset but also as he rises up the chain of command as an NCO. Not only is this book incredibly personal as Jünger faces the prospect of death numerous times and his mindset with dying, but also with his brother who fights along Ernst from time to time which shows us glimpses of humanity and compassion in the face of absolute destruction and chaos. The other thing to mention, is the vivid descriptions of day to day life as a German soldier. Here we see Jünger in many situations such as downtime spent in the French countryside, different shifts as an officer in the trenches, and many depictions of battle from raiding parties, artillery raids, gas attacks, and marksmen with sniper rifles. There is one detail I remember from this book and it’s that as a soldier, you were not expected to survive and that is portrayed accurately in this memoir. Overall, solid book and an especially unique perspective given that we don’t get many perspectives from the German side of World War One or even Two. I would love to continue to read Jüngers work as he has written another book The Peace, about his time as an army captain for the Nazis in World War Two and how he was disillusioned with the end goal of totalitarianism and world domination.
Last Queen by Chitra Banejree Devakaruni Rani Jindan, the queen of Punjab is a symbol of grace, wit and honour. The Last Queen is a book that showcases the deep devotion that Rani Jindan had for her family, her religion and her country. The book is a timeless tale of a lady that will excite you with a spirit of patriotism and bravery. The book is divided into the phases of Rani Jindan’s life- Girl, Bride, Queen and Rebel. The growth of Jindan from a daughter who is fierce and excited, to a mother who is cautious yet brave had me enchanted. Divakaruni’s immersive storytelling style clubbed with a narration that compliments the timeline, this book is a must read. The story had a solid building with a lot of much needed time given to the setup of the plot. The history fanatic in me, was intrigued by the inner workings of the durbar and the strategic moves taken by the characters. A book like this gives emotions to history, the kind that will etch in your mind and inspire you from within. Each chapter made my heart ache with sorrow and also with pride on our heritage. ‘Your kismet has already spoken. You are not only a wife and a mother, but a queen as well. 🌸MAGNOLIA PARKS🌸 I finished Magnolia Parks: Into the Dark early this morning, and I’m still thinking about it. If I’m honest, I wasn’t blown away by the other 4 books? One of the reasons I continued the series was just because of the cliffhanger endings, but this book honestly made up my mind for me in that I love this series. I honestly spent most of it crying, whether it be happy tears or sad tears. It was so beautifully written, from the characters to their relationships to the storyline, it all came together perfectly. ✨BOOK REVIEW: HOUSE OF FLAME AND SHADOW✨ *SPOILERS IF YOU HAVE NOT YET READ THIS BOOK* ———————————— RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ll start this off by saying everyone is entitled to their opinions. I know this book wasn’t for everyone, but it most certainly was for me🖤 I for one didn’t go into this expecting ACOTAR 6 which is why I think people were let down? It’s CRESCENT CITY and that’s exactly what we got. First off, Bryce made this book for me. I really felt that she embodied Aelin in this book with her sass and habit to not tell everyone her plans, she really made me laugh out loud at quite a few points in the book! Although I really wish Aelin had made an appearance, Lidia telling us her son’s full name and the reason behind it had me SCREAMING. If you knew what you were looking for this book had so many Easter eggs I absolutely loved it! It was very smart of Sarah and I for one really enjoyed them. Not once did I feel bored in this book, and although the history lesson was LONG, it explained a lot for later in the book. Lidia and Ruhn were really the couple of the book for me, I’ve loved Lidia since her first appearance and she really grew into herself in this book, as well as us getting the opportunity to understand her more. This book also did what I didn’t think was possible and made me like Nesta😂 I have never been a lover of her character even after Silver Flames, but seeing her from someone’s POV who had never met her before really opened up her character for me. Overall, this book was everything I needed and more. 🏉BOYS OF TOMMEN🏉 This series snook up on me, stole my heart and also stamped on it. It’s my entire personality and I think about it daily. 🖤BOOK REVIEW🖤 One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig RATING- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ——————————————— At first I wasn’t sure about this book, it took me a good 100 pages to get into it. However once I was settled and understood the world I really enjoyed it! The concept and magic is so unique, and Elspeth was a really likeable heroine. I enjoyed her dynamic with Ravyn (and enjoyed Ravyn as a character himself!) but I would say Elm was definitely my favourite character. I loved it that much I went straight on Waterstones and ordered book 2, that cliffhanger?!! The only reason for me that it didn’t get 5 is I felt a little bit more world building was needed! I know some people would think there was enough but for me I needed just that tid bit more! 📖2024 BOOKISH GOALS📖 I decided to set myself a few reading/bookish goals for 2024, to help both myself and my bank account 🤣 I read 107 (hoping to be 108 if I finish Kingdom of Ash in time) books this year, but set my target as 75 as this gives me something smaller to build on! I am currently a NIGHTMARE for buying the same book in multiple editions (hardback, special editions, signed, etc) so my aim is to only buy a max of 2 copies of one book and ONLY if I absolutely love it. My shelf can’t take it🤣 I was hoping to hit 1400 by the end of the year but this has not gone to plan🥲 I’m a little sad but I know that my follower count slowed for staying true to myself and removing myself from toxic environments, so I can’t complain! “The Storm We Made” is a debut novel by Vanessa Chan which is a riveting narrative set against the backdrop of war-torn Malaysia during World War II. The story depicts who made the storm and whether they have made it through. The story unfolds through the eyes of Cecily and her three children: Jujube, Abel and Jasmine. Her life became more exciting when she was chosen to be a part-time spy for General Fujiwara but known as Bingley Chan to Western col0niz3rs. She was very much proud of herself (as much as I was) for that because clearly, she loathed her monochrome life of being a housewife and her husband for being a white worshipper. But adultery is another thing, it’s hard for me to read about her infatuation with her spymaster. However, things went south in her family when her son, Abel, was disappeared on his 15th birthday just like other boys in their neighborhood. Nobody really knew where they have been except the boys who were being slaved as labor workers and being tortured at Kanchanaburi Labor Camp on the Burma/Thailand border. POV of Abel reminds me of so many young souls whose futures were stolen to thrive because he was gradually becoming an alcoholic and started to battle this addiction as this young age. Meanwhile, Jujube was fixing everything as much as she could as the eldest daughter in Asian household when the youngest one became a cute little people pleaser but always escaping from reality. The title could have possibly referred to Cecily and Fujiwara—their stirring things up between British occupation and their plans. From my perspective, they were not the ones who have made this storm, but it was given to them to solve and defend. This story was set during 1930-40s and yet storms like these are still happening in this world including my country which shows that history is not the past. This book is foolproof that history still exists in our daily lives. And we will prevail. Lastly, I am very (very) honored to be part of this blog tour!! No cap. S radosťou oznamujem, že miesto za najemotívnejši príbeh tohto roka vyhrala táto kniha so silným príbehom a hlbokou myšlienkou. ❤️ Ide o príbeh, ktorý v sebe ukrýva stratu, silu kníh a lásku. V roku 1939 sa hlavná hrdinka Grace presťahuje do Londýna, v ktorom hrozí vojna. Naskytne sa jej možnosť pracovať u starého pána Evansa v miestnom kníhkupectve. Jej najväčším problém je jej neznalosť v knihách, keďže na čítanie nikdy nemala čas. Všetko sa zmení, keď jedného dňa vstúpi do tohto kníhkupectva letecký dôstojník George. Vďaka nemu Grace objaví čaro kníh - klasických románov Autorka má neskutočný dar ponúknuť čitateľovi silný emotívny príbeh, ktorý ho zasiahne hlboko. Od čítania som sa nedokázala odtrhnúť a to nebolo všetko. Popri čítaní som spolu s našimi postavami prežívala strach, radosť, ale vďaka nim som nahliadla skrz tento príbeh do ďalších. Dôkaz, že knihy dokážu spájať ľudí. Kniha sa vzhľadom na vážnosť témy číta rýchlo. Príbeh je vykreslený pútavo, celý dej pokrýva veľké tajomstvo a nechýbajú ani napínavé zápletky. Postavy sú nádherné vykreslené a nechýbajú ani charaktery postáv, ktoré vám cez príbeh povedia omnoho viac. Knihu odporúčam všetkým milovníkom vojnových príbehov, kníh, kde ústredná téma sa dotýka knihy a kníhkupectiev. 😊 Verím, že sa k príbehu ešte po istom čase vrátim a znova nájdem tú krásu, ktorú v sebe ukrýva.
