As a full-time single mother and attorney, I know a thing or two about burning the candle at both ends. It did it for YEARS. Never stopping, never taking a REAL break. That’s because, even when I had a break, I wasted it away: ✅Telling myself “I should be doing something” ✅Feeling guilty for leaving my son ✅Worrying about my son and the person minding him. The result: I never felt reseted.   In fact, I felt irritable with my son and lost my shit on him more times than I care to remember.  If this sounds like you, tune into this week’s episode all about Respite Resistance.  I will share with you the KEY to breaking free from Respite Resistance, so that you can feel more rested and less resentful. #autism #autismmom #autismmoms #specialneedsmom #specialneedsparents #specialneedsparenting #autismmomcoach #theautismmomcoach #ptsd #nervoussystemsupport #nervoussystemregulation #nervoussystemreset #selfregulation #coregulatuon #anxiety-support #listentoyourself #perfectionism #perfectionist #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #specialneedsmom #specialneedsparents #specialneedsparenting #autismmomcoach #autism #autismmoms #parentcoach #autismparents #special-needs #anxiety #ptsd #asvocate #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #perfectionism #perfectionist #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #autism #autismmom #specialneedsmom #specialneedsparents #specialneedsparenting #autismmomcoach #autism #autismmoms #parentcoach #autism-parents

My favorite part of being an Autism Mom has been creating unique traditions with Ben. Instead of doing whatever everyone one else is doing, Ben and I create our own fun, our own traditions, and our own spin on life that works for us. For example, ICYMI, yesterday was May the 4th. As in May the Force Be with You. In our house, May the 4th is like Christmas, but better: ✔️ Breakfast Death Stars (chocolate munchkins) ✔️ Jedi robes ✔️ Yoda Soda (Lime seltzer water) ✔️ Star Wars Trivia (Ben always wins) ✔️ Prequel jokes about Jar Jar Binks ✔️ OG movie marathon of Episodes IV, V & VI. Do we look and sound like 2 comic-con nerds? Yes. Do we care? Not at all! It's our tradition and it works for us. And that is all that matters. What kind of traditions hav you created with your child[ren] with Autism? Share in the comments. XOXO, Lisa P.S. Speaking of May the 4th, summer is right around the corner! While most people are counting down to lazy summer days, many Autism Moms are bracing ourselves for 9 weeks of less structure, less support and less sanity. That is why tomorrow I will be announcing the launch of my new program: 6 Weeks to Summer Sanity, where I’ll work 1:1 with you to make a plan for creating structure, anticipating triggers, managing sensory overload, responding to meltdowns, and finding time for yourself. Stay tuned for details! #AutismParenting #SupportSpecialNeeds #autismmomcoach #specialneedsmom #autismmoms #specialneedsparenting #radicalacceptance #ParentingSpecialNeeds #SpecialNeedsDad #SpecialNeedsMom #understandingautism #specialneedsparents #AutismAcceptance #lightitupblue #autismawarenessmonth #parentcoach #coach #lifecoaching #theautismmomcoach #autismmom #autismmomsrock #lifecoachformoms #parentingcoaching #autismmomma #overwhelmed #mentalhealthawareness #selfcareroutine #burnout #fatigue #burntout

Seeing how eager he comes to me saying “Mummy please cut” or “scissors-Cut mummy” makes me wonder how he must have endured in silence all these years dealing with the uncomfortable feeling of the Tags against his body. I can see the relief on his face once the Tag comes off his pants or shirt. Something as simple as the labels/tags on their shirts and plants can create full-body discomfort for our Gems 💎 A lot of children on the autism spectrum have heightened sensitivity to certain things. Even some neurotypical kids like my 4-year-old daughter do not like the labels on her clothes. Recently stumbled upon an article where an autistic adult explained how the feeling of those labels on her skin was like “to*ture to her. It is important to know that not all children can tolerate those labels in silence like Khalil. It may lead to meltdowns or other challenging issues. I’m so glad he’s expressing himself. He comes to me or his dad. He knows exactly where the scissors are and he won’t leave you until you cut them off😀😀 So moms are you going to start cutting off those labels on your kid’s clothes or what? #autismmomlife #autismawareness #parentingautism #sensoryissues #autismmomcoach

Shortly following Ben's diagnosis, a well-meaning co-worker emailed me the "Welcome to Holland" poem. (ICYMI: the poem, which compares raising a child with special needs to planning a trip to Italy but ending up in Holland instead, is meant to be a message of acceptance and finding joy in the unexpected). Subject line: "A poem about special needs parenting." I opened the email and went from intrigued to enraged in less than 60 seconds. Are you kidding me??? My once chatty and vibrant child is not speaking and hitting his head against the wall in frustration, and you are sending me a poem about learning a new language and getting a new guidebook?!? Now, I do get it. The poem is meant to be a message of acceptance and finding joy in the unexpected. But when it's shared by people who have no clue what our lives are really like - it ticks me off. It does not feel supportive. It feels oversimplified and dismissive. Because we all know: raising a child with Autism is nothing like a surprise vacation. It's not a simple matter of learning a new language or buying a different guidebook. In fact, there is no guidebook at all. Yes, there are AMAZING moments. There's also a whole lot of struggle, heartache and conflicting emotions that come with loving the child you have and working your tail off to make them as "normal" as possible, so that they can live an independent life. This is all to say if the "Welcome to Holland Poem" does not resonate with your or your experience, it is NOT because you are doing it wrong. It is because parenting a child with Autism is complicated and cannot be reduced to oversimplified metaphors. We don't need oversimplified metaphors from people who don't truly understand our reality. What we need is to give ourselves permission to feel all the complex emotions from grief to gratitude that come with being an autism parent, without judgment or shame. Negative thoughts are sticky!! Not because they are “true” but because our brains are hard wired to over focus on and over remember the negative. This was pretty useful to our cave person ancestors trying to survive in an eat or be eaten world. Nowadays, not so much. It’s more like having an over dramatic drama queen in your head stirring up stress and anxiety. To learn more about your negativity bias and what you can do to take control of it, tune into this week’s episode of The Autism Mom Coach podcast. #autism #autismmom #autismmoms #specialneedsmom #specialneedsparents #specialneedsparenting #autismmomcoach #theautismmomcoach #negativitybias #mindsetcoaching

How many times a week/day/hour do you find yourself in a negativity loop like: ✅ No one gets it ✅ I don’t know what I’m doing or ✅ This is all my fault All of the time? You are NOT alone. As humans, we are hardwired to bend towards the negative. As Autism Moms, however, we tend to take our negativity bias to the next level by constantly ruminating about the challenges we face and the fears we have. That is why in this week’s episode of the podcast, I am replaying one of the very first episodes - The Negativity Bias. To learn more about this hardwired habit and what you can do to take control of it, tune into Episode 111 of The Autism Mom Coach Podcast. #autism #autismmom #autismmoms #specialneedsmom #specialneedsparents #specialneedsparenting #autismmomcoach #theautismmomcoach #negativitybias #mindsetcoaching #nervoussystemsupport

"One of the things no one tell you about being an Autism Moms is how much you will grow to resent being told “'I could NEVER do you what you do.'” —Becky O. While sentiments like this are made with good intent, it just reminds us of how dramatically different our parenting experiences are from parents of neurotypical children. The result: we feel more isolated and alone. If this sounds familiar to you, tune in to Episode 110 of the podcast where I share “What No One Tell You About Autism” from Autism Moms. Last year, Ben's friend called and invited him out for a night of bowling. Ben, not a fan of bowling alleys (lights and noise), politely said "No thank you" and then hung up. “Oh no,” I thought. The family might think Ben rude and never invite him out again. Driven by my own fear, I called the child’s mother and told her a “little white lie”:Ben would love to join you, but we have plans this evening.” As soon as I hung up, Ben looked at me and said: “You did not have to tell her all that. You could have just told her the truth.” OUCH. He was 100% right. I did this a lot when it came to Ben. I sugarcoated our reality with half-truths and fake smiles because I feared other people could not handle the truth. So I would say things like "everything's fine" and "we are doing well", while silently resenting them for not understanding our struggles. Well, these lies created more isolation for me AND resulted in me being called out by my 15-year-old son, who cannot lie! Ironic, right? After getting busted, I made a conscious effort to be real with the people who mattered to us. The results were mixed. While some conversations turned awkward and included tone-deaf comments, the overwhelming response was positive. That is because most of the people I chose to be vulnerable with wanted to know, wanted to understand, and wanted to support us. A very pleasant surprise! Do you ever find yourself little white lying to avoid awkward conversations, judgment or rejection? If so, let's talk about it. As an autism mom, I understand the loneliness of being surrounded by friends and family who don't get it. That's why I am inviting you to schedule a complimentary consultation call with someone who gets it! You will have a safe space to share your story and learn how my coaching program can kick-start your confidence, help you communicate your needs effectively, set boundaries, and build a strong support system. You will leave the call feeling more seen and confident than you ever have as an Autism Mom. Schedule your call now. Many of you contacted me detailing your own experiences, so I decided to give voice to these experiences so you can see clearer than ever that you are not alone. The messages I received brought up some amazing points, like: ✅ Autism studies are done on males, so many females don’t get diagnosed until they’re approaching adulthood; ✅ The impact of Autism on siblings; ✅ Ongoing grief Autism parents experience: ✅ The role of co-morbidities And so much more! For Autism Awareness Month, I want to talk about what no one tells you about Autism for two reasons: 1️⃣ I want you to know you are not alone; and 2️⃣ I want to gently encourage you to share some of the REAL with the people in your life. Otherwise, the general public’s “awareness” of autism will be limited to the pre-packaged, feel good news stories or TV shows that delude people into thinking they have the first clue of what it is actually like to have or parent a child with Autism. They don’t. So, let’s talk about it. Tune in here for Part 1 of What No One Tells You, where I will share some of the things I wish I had known and/or I’ve learned in my 16 years of parenting a child with Autism. When Ben was in first grade, his class was going on a field trip to the Fire Department. 🚒 Ben was SO excited. He talked about it for weeks. When the big day came, Ben excitedly donned his fireman regalia ready for the long awaited trip. That evening, I rushed home from work to hear all about the trip. I was surprised by Ben's lack of excitement, so I emailed his teacher. Instead of an email from the teacher, I received a call from Ben’s case manager. WTF? She called to let me know that Ben had been “accidentally” left behind with an aide in the ABA room while his class attended the field trip. My blood was BOILING. She went on to explain that his first grade teacher, Miss M, had decided it was better he stay behind since he would require a lot of support for the trip. Now I wanted to throat punch a teacher. This woman had unilaterally decided my son was to be left behind because he was “a lot”, without a word to his parents. While I would never have wished this incident on Ben, it benefited me (and thereby Ben) so much. Prior to this, I had really wanted Ben’s teachers to like me because I thought it would result in better treatment/services for Ben AND I wanted to be liked and thought of as a good mom. That all changed after this. While I continued to believe it was in Ben’s best interest to be collaborative (at first), I no longer worried or cared whether the revolving door of strangers at the IEP table liked me. I was not there for them or me. I was there for Ben! This meant, I had to learn how to manage my temporary discomfort of being at odds with Ben’s team du jour, so that I could stand loudly and firmly for his best interest. If you find yourself struggling with the discomfort of being liked, ask yourself which would you rather live with: The temporary discomfort of being at odds with stranger or the permanent regret of not advocating for your child? Talk to me in the comments. Do you struggle with being liked at the IEP table? #IEP #autismmomcoach #autismmoms #theautismmomcoach #autism #specialneeds # #AutismParenting #SupportSpecialNeeds #Communication #autismmomcoach #AutismAwareness #aba #bcba #autismmoms #

Do you hesitate to advocate like you want to for your child because you are afraid of not being liked by the school staff? You are not alone. Just this week (and it is still Tuesday), I’ve coached 2 moms struggling with their fears of not being liked if they speak up “too much” for their kiddos. While this is a totally NORMAL discomfort to experience, ESPECIALLY for women, you get to decide how much power you want to give this fear in your life AND your child’s. What do you want more- To be liked by people you hardly know (and may not even like yourself) or know you showed up like the baller you are for your child? #autismmom #autismmoms #autismmomcoach #theautismmomcoach #Advocate #IEP #specialneeds #specialeducation #inclusion #diversity #inclusiveeducation #neurodivergent #neurodiversity

Your nervous system is a bit of a drama queen. And thank goodness! Its vigilance allowed our ancestors to survive and pass these genes onto us. Trouble is, our nervous system reacts to real and perceived dangers, no matter the size, the same way it would a hungry lion. So, unless we step in to manage our body’s outsized response danger, our stress is going to run us. That is why it is so important for us to learn how we can detect and down regulate our stress response. The better we get at this, the better we are able to help our children process their big emotions without joining them in a meltdown. To learn more about how you can down regulate your stress response, tune in to this week’s podcast. Your nervous system is like Austin Powers after he was defrosted. It has no idea that the times have changed and it is no longer eat or be eaten. As a result, it still responds to real or perceived dangers, however slight, like your life depends on it. Head racing, heart pounding, blood rushing to your extremities. This is important to know because, once you understand this, you can better manage it. You don’t have to react like it is or life or death, unless it actually is. Instead, when you feel the rush of adrenaline hit you while your child is taking her sweet ass time getting into the shower, you can pause and remind yourself you are safe. This will enable you to down regulate your stress response so you don’t go flying off the handle or otherwise escalate your child. Sweet, right? Most parents would kill for a kid who did his homework as soon as he walked in the front door. Not me. In fact, I dreaded it. That’s because my son, Ben, completed his homework like a person fleeing a burning building: Quickly and screaming the entire time. 😱 On top of that, I felt completely powerless because Ben both begged me to help him and insisted I had no idea what I was doing, since I was not his teacher. As much as I wanted to stay calm, I found it impossible to contain my rage for very long, so night after night ended with me crying myself to sleep for being the worst mother ever. As I broke down the details of our nightly ritual with my coach, here is what became crystal clear to me: Ben and I were in a dance. 🕺🏻💃🏻 He lead and I followed, every time: * He yelled, I yelled back. * He broke a pencil, I yelled more. * He slammed doors, I threatened punishment. The solution was clear: I needed to make some different moves. That is because, as anyone who has watched the failed lift scene in Dirty Dancing knows: When one partner changes a move, the entire dance changes. I no longer felt powerless. In fact, I had regained my footing and was ready to lead. Now, when Ben yelled, I did not yell back. Instead, I would pause, take deep breaths and sometimes I would even leave the room. Does this mean he stopped yelling entirely? NO. It meant that I was not escalating the situation anymore. In fact, the more I remained calm, the faster Ben was able to regulate himself. All from changing one move. So, if you are in a dance that you are not enjoying, try changing just one move and see what happens. Tune in to learn * The differences between therapy and life coaching. * Why Allison pursued life coaching instead of therapy when she found herself on a Merry Go “Round of meltdowns and guilt/shame spirals. * Allison’s view of the importance of coaching with someone who understands your lived experience, especially for Autism Moms. * One limit that signifies you need therapy over life coaching. * Allison’s thoughts on doing both therapy and life coaching in tandem. Jamie came to me she was at her rock bottom. Her twins' meltdowns were increasing in frequency, intensity and duration. While she mostly managed to stay calm on the outside, she was imploding with fear and anxiety on the inside. After several months, this cycle had her in a constant state of fight-flight stress response. This is when she hired me. Here is what she had to say about coaching: “Lisa’s coaching program is life changing for parenting raising Autistic children. I was at an all time low during our journey of raising our 4 year old Autistic twin boys and I am so grateful that I discovered The Autism Mom Coach. I really appreciate Lisa’s honesty, sincerity and compassion. She has helped me tremendously to better understand meltdowns and increase my self-awareness of my thoughts and feelings as a special needs parent. It is so refreshing to be connected with someone like Lisa who gets it and empowers us to navigate this difficult journey.” If a mom of twins can transform her parenting experience with my coaching program, then so can you! In my Resilient Autism Mom Program (RAMP), I will help you take control of your autism parenting experience, so that you can actually enjoy it!! Two days after schlepping my son across the country to his new residential program, I got the phone call. ☎️ “I’m sorry to tell you this, but ….” I could taste the bile in my mouth. 🤢 “Ben punched the Executive Director in the face.” In my stunned silence, my mind was screaming: “NOOOOOO! What is going to happen now?” I found out a few days later when the school called to inform me my son was being transported to the hospital. He was physically safe, but his repeated self injurious behaviors and aggressions towards others had been more than this school could manage. After 13 days, he was being expelled. Hello, Rock Bottom. This painful experience was a turning point for me and an invitation to uplevel my skills as an Autism Mom, which I accepted. Now, I want to share these valuable lessons with you! Join my upcoming webinar, “Lessons From Rock Bottom,” where I will share my secret cause to turning setbacks into successes. A few months ago, I was coaching a new client. She was telling me her fears about her 6 year old son with Autism. “I’m afraid the day will come when I can’t keep us safe at home because of his aggressions and he will need to live in a group home.” She had no idea that at that very moment her greatest fear for her son was my biggest hope for mine. It was not alway like this. The perfect storm of ASD, OCD and puberty hit our home like a tsunami. This is all to say I did not get to wishing for a group home overnight. It was a slow and gut wrenching crawl. But here is the thing: now that we are here, it does not feel like failure. It feels like safety and salvation, for me and my son. Not because I am giving up. Because I am seeing clearly the difference between what I can and can't control. THIS is where our real power lies. It is not in all of our efforts to "fix" our children or solve Autism. It is in our ability to, as the Serenity Prayer says, "accept the things we cannot change and the wisdom to know the difference." To learn more about the power of living the Serenity Prayer in real life, join me for my upcoming webinar, "Lessons from Rock Bottom: 3 Steps to Turning Setbacks into Successes." During this webinar, I will share with you how I used this sage wisdom to confront my greatest fears head on, so that I could be the best mother for my son. After ringing in 2023 with another black eye, I began exploring residential programs for my son. After 2 months of due diligence, our baller educational consultant came back to me with a recommendation. And it was in Utah! The program seemed perfect: it was small, it was tailored to kids with Autism, and it accepted Ben. Looking back, I know that I wasn't just looking for the "right" school. I was looking for a silver bullet solution to all my fears about my son and his future. I was hoping if I found the right school, the right supports, the right therapies, the right doctors, then my son would be "OK". I am not alone. This is the hope of every Autism Mom: if we do enough, if we do the "right" things, then our child will be "OK".While our drive to help our kids serves them is so many ways, there is a steep downside to to our mental health and relationship with our kids when we deputize ourselves to "solve" Autism. To learn how to avoid these pitfalls, register for my upcoming webinar Lessons from Rock Bottom: 5 Steps to Turning Setbacks into Successes on January 31, 2024 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EST. #theautismmomcoach #autismmomcoach #autismmom #autismmoms #momlife #autismsupport #autismresources #autismparenting #autismparents #singlemom #workingmom #lawyermom #anxietysupport #stressresponse #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #fightflightfreeze #stressresponse #workingmom #lawyermom #doctormom #severeautism #nonverbalautism #autismsupport #autismresources #autismparenting #autismparents #ocd #burnout #anxiety #anxietysupport #stressresponse #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #understandingautism #autismspectrumdisordert

Last month, I binge watched all 3 Equalizer Movies. In a nutshell, the movies center around a character played by Denzel Washington using his skills as a former intelligence agent to exact justice on behalf of innocent people. My favorite part of these movies happens right before a fight scene, when Denzel pauses and assesses the situation. In those few seconds, he sees the possibilities before him, anticipates his opponents’ moves and decides how he will respond to each of them in kind. This is the Power of the Pause. And it is not just for fictional vigilantes. It is something you can use every day in your very real lives of raising a child with Autism. You can use the power of the pause to: ✅ Take a slow deep breath ✅ Remind yourself the behavior is not personal ✅ Tell yourself “I am safe” ✅ Tag in your partner ✅ Walk away ✅ Let it go This is the difference between fueling a fire versus cutting off its oxygen supply. 🔥🧯 The more you practice the pause, the better able you will be to regulate yourself and model emotional regulation to your child. Give it a try! #theautismmomcoach #autismmomcoach #autismmom #autismmoms #momlife #autismsupport #autismresources #autismparenting #autismparents #singlemom #workingmom #lawyermom #anxietysupport #stressresponse #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #fightflightfreeze #stressresponse #workingmom #lawyermom #doctormom #severeautism #nonverbalautism #autismsupport #autismresources #autismparenting #autismparents #ocd #burnout #anxiety #anxietysupport #stressresponse #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #understandingautism #autismspectrumdisorder

This week 2 lawyers, a teacher and a medical doctor asked me the same question:
Am I being a Drama Queen?

Their circumstances were wildly different, but the fear was the same:
Other people might think they were being DQs for doing for their children the same things they do effortlessly in their careers:
✅ Ask follow-up questions ✅ Gather information ✅ Explore alternatives  ✅ Request additional services/testing/terms ✅ Disagree with peers and superiors
At work, they call this “doing my job”.

But when it comes to IEP meetings, doctors appointments, and hospitalization decisions, they worried other people would view them as a DQ.

Maybe

AND

F-THIS!!!
Entertaining this possibility is undermining your confidence and your ability to show up as the CEO of
Team [insert your child’s name]. I'm not telling you other people won't be irritated by your advocacy.

I'm urging you not to play small because of it.
I’m positive Steve Jobs never worried about being called a DQ for disrupting multiple industries by asking questions, pushing for alternatives and bird-dogging implementation, and neither should you. You are the visionary, the leader, the expert, and the boots on the ground.   You are a Disruption Queen.   Wear this badge proudly when you are CEO-ing for your child. It’s what you are here to do.

Have a wonderful week!
 Lisa
P.S.  If you want to learn how to advocate for your child without boiling over with rage or turning into a weeping mess, I can help you with this.  In my program, I teach Moms Like You how to understand their triggers and process their emotions, so that they can show up as the most effective CEO for their child.  You can get started by scheduling a complimentary consultation using the link in bio and stories.

SAVE THIS POST and DM me for links and info about the best berberine. TO AVOID DAMAGE (AND WEIGHT GAIN) FROM HIGH-CARB MEALS THIS SEASON. 1: BERBERINE Berberine is amazing. It actually works as well as the diabetes drug Metformin (according to Andrew Huberman ) when it comes to lowering blood glucose. I take it before a sugary or high-carb meal during Christmas, before a birthday feast, etc. In one study, 1 g of berberine lowered blood sugar levels by 20! Berberine might even be effective against cancer and improve heart health. 2: B1 B1 is excellent for helping the body regulate blood glucose levels and metabolism. It's recommended to start taking b1 if you've been living low carb in order to prepare the body to be able to handle carbs. Very relevant this season. 3: FIBER CYCLING Fibers regulate insulin, slow down the impact of carbs on blood sugar levels and detoxify hormones, toxins, and crap in the intestines like an "internal vacuum cleaner". **Disclaimer: This is not health advice or prescription. One of the biggest reasons the stages of grief theory don’t resonate with me is that it doesn’t feature fear. Fear comes and goes for us Autism parents all the time, from before the diagnosis, after the diagnosis, to decades on. Fear remains a huge part of our experience, and it makes perfect sense. Join me this week to discover how fear and grief are interwoven in your experience as an Autism parent, and a few ways fear shows up in our everyday lives, and how to begin experiencing the emotion of fear without letting it run your life. https://theautismmomcoach.com/fear-autism-parent/ #SpecialNeedsParenting #AutismCommunity #SpecialNeedsFamily #AutismParenting #SupportSpecialNeeds #autismmomcoach #AutismAwareness #autismmoms #theautismmomcoach #acceptance #autism #radicalacceptance #ParentingSpecialNeeds #SpecialNeedsDad #SpecialNeedsMom #understandingautism #DifferentNotLess #InclusiveParenting #Neurodiversity #AutismAcceptance #InclusionMatters

I’m so excited to announce a new Free Little Library Beanz & Co. Café! I dedicated this library to @Beanz because of the critical role they play in advocating for and employing people with intellectual and development disabilities. The world is a better place because of Beanz. Here are the details on the library! Hope to see you there soon! Lisa Candera, aka The Autism Mom Coach, has donated a book shelf to Beanz, for the purposes of sharing resources and respite to special needs families. As a mother of a 16 year old with autism and a parenting coach, Lisa has accumulated a lot of special needs related books over the years, and she wants to share them with our Beanz family. The bookshelf, which is registered as a Little Free Library, will contain books by and about people with different abilities, special needs parenting, educations law and self-care. The bookshelf will also contain an assortment of fiction, non-fiction and kids’ books for Beanz’ customers to enjoy. For books with a blue sticker, we ask that you borrow and return it, so that other special needs families can enjoy it, too. For all other books, you are free to take a book, leave a book (either the same or a book of your choosing). #ctsmallbusiness #inclusion #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #Advocate #inclusiveeducation #IEP #autismmomcoach #autismmoms #theautismmomcoach #autism #specialneeds #sped #diversity #specialeducation

For some days now I noticed that after dressing up for school,Khalil will go back to his bed and try to spread his blanket out neatly. He will then look at it while he continues to straighten it until he is satisfied with the way the bed looks before leaving 😏😅 Funny thing is that him making his bed is not even on my top 10 list of my current goals with him☺️ I never for once thought him that! It’s all entirely him😇 Since he is showing me he is ready I will do my best to support him😇 Many times I have had sessions with moms who despite their special children showing clear signs that they are interested in a chore or something, they hold back the child just because they feel that the child is not ready. Meanwhile it is often us parents that are not 👌🏽 Dear Autism moms, We can do better to help our children thrive in their areas of strength and interest.
