This is my foolproof sun safety tip to prevent unintended tans and burns day to day during the summer (I share it with my all of my patients and sarahkinonen has written about it in allure). It’s wearing clothing…I know, it’s so simple but really effective. Here’s how I do it: I cover either my upper body or lower body with clothes (so I wear EITHER long sleeves or pants) and then focus my SPF application on the body parts NOT covered by clothes. For me, I tend to wear long sleeve shirts because reaching my back and shoulders with sunscreen can be tricky, and then I wear shorts because applying sunscreen to my legs is really simple. Of course, do not forget to reapply SPF every 2 hours to any exposed body parts especially face, ears, neck, hands and feet, and hats and sunglasses are super important. You will spend less time reapplying sunscreen and will be better protected. Ps: I realize it’s the summer and it’s hot. I promise you’re going yo be hot on a 90 degree day whether you wear long sleeves or not, and this technique keeps you safe in the sun. • #drsharimarchbein #doctormom #boardcertifieddermatologist #sunsafety #protectiveclothing #sunscreen #summerskincare #skincaretips #summeroutfit #sunprotection #spf #skincancer #sunburn #sundamage

🏫 🍎 ✏️ Last Day of School 📚📖😘 I sent my girls off to school this morning for their last day! June—my intern baby, is now moving into third grade. What a talkative, feisty, kind, smart, sweet girl she is. She’s never afraid to strike up a conversation. I’m so proud of her sweet soul. She’s the kid who will befriend anyone. Ivy—the girl that completed our family, is no longer a baby. Shes had to grow up at twice the pace of other kids. English was her second language and now she won’t stop talking 😂 She our precious little lunatic. It’s hard to believe she completed her first year of preschool already. Time flies. As I was once again working during their celebrations today, I hope they grow up knowing the value of hard work and that they can do whatever they want in life. #boiseidaho #adoption #adoptionjourney #doctor #doctormom #gastroenterologist #medstudent #momlife #medicalschool #physician #womeninmedicine #physicianmom #idahome #momsinmedicine #adoptivemom #boise #doctorlife #residency #premed #adoption #medicine #womeninhealthcare #workingmom #physicianlife #motherhood #medicaldoctor

This is 38! Not exactly a milestone number but it feels good to be here. I reached some long term goals this year with my sights set on a few more (next stop - 🤞 promotion!). Our clinical group is doing amazing things and branching out into our own niches. Research is similar with exciting collaborations upcoming and ongoing. Most importantly, this beautiful family my husband and I built - watching them learn, love and grow is the most rewarding thing we do! Recently inside The Happy Gynecologist Group, I’ve coached clients on work (bosses, clinic schedules, complications, patients) and I coached clients on life (kids, laundry, spouses, money). When we start to address our burnout, we realize how many areas of our life it touches. It can be all encompassing. While it can feel overwhelming to realize this at first, my clients soon realize that working on one area helps the other areas too. All roads lead to Rome. I’ve had members inside the Group never get coached on their job because they are struggling more with the other aspects of life. And that’s OK. There’s no “right” or “wrong” way to work on burnout. To get started, go subscribe to The Happy Gynecologist podcast, where new episodes are released every Thursday to help you thrive as an OB/GYN, at work and in life. ❤️/Amanda • • • • • • • #obgynlife #obgynburnout #mommadoc #femalesurgeon #OBGYN #doctormom #physicianwellness #physicianburnout #burnout #burnoutrecovery #physicianmom #burnoutprevention #MD #mentalhealth #laborist #obstetrics #gynecology #doctorsofinstagram #womeninmedicine #physiciancoach #obgynmom #healthcare #feelyourfeelings #doctorsofig #surgeonmom #mamasinmedicine #residencylife #womeninmedicine💪 #womeninwhitecoats #medblog

⏲️PROBLEM: You find yourself always stuck with back-to-back meetings and: A) Never have time to eat B) Need a “bio break” C) Just need a mental pause before transitioning to the next meeting D) One or more of the above 👉 LIFE HACK: Reduce meeting duration to build in breaks. ACTION ITEMS: ✅ Set meetings to 50 minutes instead of 1 Hour ✅ Set meetings to 25 minutes instead of 30 minutes ✅ Start meetings 10 minutes later to ensure you don't lose the break time by running over ✅ Use Google Calendar " Speedy Meetings" (Go to number 2 on the list.) ✅Not the one in charge of scheduling your meetings? Suggest it to whoever is. They might just thank you for the brilliant idea! #doctormom #doctormomlifehacks

What does it mean for you to be a “mom”? I think one of the most important things a woman can do is reflect on her own childhood and what does it mean to her in this current age to be a mom. We know what the world says.🙄 I have been more interested in learning what God says🙌🏽, and leaning into the revelations He has given me.💡 I think much of the mental load of being a working mom has to do with our belief system around control, boundaries, and a village. I found as I learned to let go of control, establish boundaries, and build a village that my motherhood journey has been far more easy and enjoyable. Join me and 3 other amazing women entrepreneurs as we discuss this and more, share our personal experiences, and provide our formulas for success! Today is the 100th episode of the podcast. You’ll notice that things are a little different than they were before: ✔️New music ✔️New art ✔️New intro ✔️…New name. If you’re wondering where this change is coming from, that’s part of what today’s podcast is about. I’m sharing my top 3 lessons learned after writing 100 episodes about eating, moving, and thinking. As you listen, I think you’ll see why Strong is a Mindset is the next right step for the show. This one is personal. I’m sharing loads of mistakes I made both personally and professionally, and the single most important lesson I’ve learned (so far, anyway). That lesson changed my life, it changed my trajectory, and it guides my work today, so I can bring you what you need to be strong - inside and out. Of all the episodes I’ve released, I am most excited to share this one with you. It’s real, it’s raw, and it’s the truth. Check it out. To be clear: my goal is unchanged. My goal remains that no woman should have to choose between career, family, wellness, sanity, or herself. And that is true for any woman - whether she calls herself a mom or not, and regardless of whatever titles she has in her career or otherwise. My second goal is that you walk away from every episode with something you can use - whether that’s a tool, concept, question, or framework to help you change the way you think. This episode is no different. Walk away understanding why strength starts from within. Because strong IS a mindset. Here’s to the next 100.

🤯Is your mind blown yet?? Let's talk a bit about each of these... 1️⃣Did you know that aluminum, an ingredient within several childhood 💉s, has potential harmful impacts on the immune system and the brain when given in high amounts. Please know you have options with some brands having no aluminum or lower amounts. You have the option to ask for specific brands! 2️⃣For some 💉s, you can limit the number of doses if you know the timing. We want every parent to know these facts about how timing may help limit the number of doses and make a plan they feel is best for their child. 3️⃣Avoid Tylenol before and after a 💉!! Why? Tylenol decreases glutathione - glutathione helps not only with detoxification but also helps by protecting the brain! We love glutathione so much it is one of our main supplements we recommend in our pre and post-detox and immune protocol to support your littles. If you choose to 💉, you WANT it to be as effective as possible!! We recommend doing everything you can to AVOID substances that reduce effectiveness and instead GIVE nutrients that increase effectiveness! 👍 ✨@draricalhoun and I go more into depth with these as well as 4 MORE key facts you need to know, and we desperately want more moms to have access to this information. Which is why we created this completely FREE resource for you to get started! Just comment "VIDEO" below and I'll DM you the link! 🙏 Please share this with everyone you know. Funny, huh? And… a little bit true? We’ve all been there. When that 0 to 100 rage pathway somehow gets set off and you are yelling at your totally loving and supportive spouse about why they bought regular milk instead of organic when you have been buying organic for the past 20 years. Let me explain why this is happening to you AND give you easy to implement tips on how to regain control. My online anger course, From Reaction to Response, is LIVE! This course will explain why you lose your cool, why it happens so fast, and the reasons you keep doing it even though it feels so bad after the fact. My course will offer you handy tips on how to curb that anger response THAT WORK… So you can change your reactions that have somehow become automatic over time and start to show up with intention and in control. Being a woman in medicine has its challenges! Especially being a woman of color. The good news is, women are making up more of the medical workforce. In fact, more women than men are going into medical school now! Data shows that women physicians have better outcomes when it comes to treating patients, and we LOVE TO SEE IT! My girls are a constant reminder of my “ikigai” or my reason for being—my life purpose as a mother, a wife, a daughter, a physician, an entrepreneur, a human. Most of the time, it feels like it’s all moving way too quickly- the mad rush of the day, the constant goal setting, the to-do list that keeps getting longer, the losing my cool at times for trivial things my kids do that in retrospect really don’t matter 🤪 So, no matter how busy I am, I try to make a point to really take in and treasure the beautiful, simple moments that bring so much joy✨ #ensolifestylehealth #physician #entrepreneur #doctormom #momming #worklifebalance #simplepleasures #momlife #ikigai #mamasinmedicine #happiness #lifepurpose #physicianmom #lifestylemedicine #womeninhealthcare #behindthescenes #motherdaughter #momlife #busymomlife #healthylifestyle #motherhood #mindfulmoments

And just like that we are about to start Kindergarten. What I’m trying to come to terms with (and would love to get some insights from you guys) is actually leaving daycare and going to elementary school the hours are even harder to work around patient care. I feel so guilty being even less available when I’m asked to cover for another doctor or make up some time when I miss for a vacation. But I grew up with my mom ALWAYS being there for me (she didn’t go back to work until I was in high school) and I feel even guiltier if I’m not there in the carpool line, helping her with her homework, chatting with her about her friends, volunteering at her school - everything my mom did for me that really did mean so much. My husband is my partner and he helps as much as he can - he’s taking on all drop offs and working it out with his employer to show up late to work every day, and I’m taking on pick ups 3 days a week while he’ll cover the other 2. Honestly it’s incredible he’s going to help me this much. But how do you handle the guilt of never being available enough? Every time I say yes, I can help you, I’m saying no to someone else and telling them I can’t be there. I feel like this is so normal and no one expects me to do it all- except me. I expect me to be awesome and the best at every responsibility I take on, and of course, I’m always falling short these days because there is only so much time. Any mom advice on things that have helped your family as you transition to elementary school hours? #doctormom #doctorsofinstagram #doctorlife #optometry @womeninoptometry @womenods

Another life lesson learned from fitness. No one can: ➖Run the miles for you ➖Squat the barbell for you ➖Swim the laps for you ➖Turn the pedals for you And as a result, the progress is yours. The strength, health, and self-trust that come from pushing yourself physically is priceless. There is sheer pride in that. Now, flip it to your life. No one can: ➖Undo your negative self-talk ➖Give you confidence ➖Provide you with self-worth ➖Process your pain That’s an inside job. You do that work with your very smart, very strong, very powerful brain. And, like fitness…the progress is yours. That progress takes the form of improved self-talk, validation of your own self-worth, increased self-confidence, and managing ALL of your emotions, including pain. There is sheer pride in that, too. It feels really, really awesome to be able to take care of yourself physically AND mentally. When the outside matches what’s on the inside, you are on fire. You. Are. Strong. If you want to change your body, it starts by changing your brain. In that order. I’ll help you do both. I will help you get strong on the inside, so you can put it to work and get strong on the outside. Send me a message and let’s talk about how coaching will change your life.

Ways to close the stress cycle: -Meditation, deep breathing -Crying (it’s totally OK because this isn’t baseball) -Creative expression/journaling -Exercise -Positive social interactions, laughter, or affection These can all close the cycle and decrease your cortisol so you’re not in fight/flight. So you can sleep better. So you can stop gaining extra weight. So you can stop catching all the toddler colds. And so you can prevent burnout. So help your brain and body know you are safe. Close the stress cycle every day. Intentionally, whether shit hit the fan or not. You don’t have to believe everything your brain tells you. When it says you’re failing at everything It’s lying. I remember when I used to lay in bed at night Thinking I was failing at being a mom I was failing as a doc I was failing as a sister and friend I was failing as a wife And I believed it And I felt horrible I didn’t know what to do. So I cried and went to sleep And did it all again the next day. Working so hard to prove I wasn’t a failure. I know I’m not alone in these crazy thoughts... last week a client had the exact ones. “I’m failing at everything “ It felt so real Like the sky is blue I am failing. I asked her What are you forgetting to remember? I love my kids. I’ve never gotten into trouble at work, in fact, they do ask me to lead a lot of groups so maybe they think I’m okay. Then I asked What is failure anyway? Who decides? Isn’t it funny that when we struggle a bit our brain goes right to the drama of “I’m failing. Nothing is working”. It’s all okay. It’s just a thought in our brain that we’ve had often and our brain loves to point out all the supporting evidence of this. As a physician coach, I’ve learned some amazing things about the brain. If you’re tired of crying yourself to sleep and feeling like a failure, please message me so we can chat. It doesn’t have to be so hard. I can help you feel better Simply.❤️

📢 Other people’s opinions are just that—their opinions. They don’t hold any more power over you other than the power you allow them to have. While those opinions can come across as critical, or know-it-all, or judgmental, they don’t actually mean anything at all about you or your decisions. However, the THOUGHTS you have around the opinions you are offered will have power over you. 💯 So, ultimately, by intentionally choosing what you want to think when people offer you their opinions, YOU get to be in control of what power you give to other people and their opinions. I love my curls. SO many people have told me that I look more professional when I straighten my hair. And, I LOVE MY CURLS. They are allowed to have their opinion, as I am mine. The next time you let someone else’s opinion send you down a thought spiral that makes you feel a certain way, stop and take a minute to think about why you are giving so much agency to what they are saying. Why are you believing their opinion to be true? Do you find that you really do believe a little piece of the what they are saying? Usually when we do, this is what causes the sting. You get to decide what you want to believe, ponder why you may believing it, decide if it is REALLY true, and determine if you want to continue to give your power away by feeding into their words. Stop letting other people live rent-free in your head, and start taking your power back.💙 Need help with this? Life is funny. A recent string of unintended actions led my Mom and I to clean out half of her house in a mad rush this morning... and voila! I was dancing down memory lane to 90s music in my concert band jacket! 🎧 Although my collection of classmate photos (I texted you!) and Harrison Ford memorabilia are most notable, I found these gems more interesting because they have something in common: they've all been replaced by my phone! Isn't it weird to even call it a mobile phone when it does so much more, the least of which is to talk to people? We have come such a long way, and with AI in the works, I won't even recognize myself in 40 years! • What do you even call this? It's not a camcorder. Is it called a video recorder? • Solar powered too! We were so high-tech. • Name that Tune is one of my Mom's favorite games! • Whoopsie! I didn't even think to play it. Maybe my Dad's voice is on it. Or a college lecture. Hahah! #90smemories #vhs #memorylane #daughterduties #sandwichgeneration #doctormom #memorylanr #80skids #90skids

My kids’ Christmas gift for me (ok so they said one flower was for mommy and one was for daddy). And, the guitars, they each painted at a class we went to on vacation. They’ve been lying around the house and collecting dust. I’ve decided to give them a new home in my office. #art #artwork #artist #amateurartists #twins #twinboyandgirl #twinboy #twingirl #doctormom

Enjoying my Victoria Day Long weekend.......at work, but I'm grateful. My practice is blossoming with lots of newborn babies born this month. I appreciate the baby snuggles- they are so precious. It's a privilege to play a role in helping a newborn grow and thrive and encourage the often exhausted parents. #motherhood #familydoctor #doctormom

Dr. Charlotte Georgiou, DMD, MBA. I have achieved what was put on hold when I took on the title of “mom”, what I have been working towards when I went back to college to start pre-requisite courses in 2017, and what I have been wishing to achieve since my great-grandmother first told me that she knew I was going to be the first doctor of the family! I could not have done this without the unwavering support of Andrew and the kids, every single day encouraging me and keeping me grounded. It is my mother who truly knows how long I have wanted this for, how many times I had to prioritize other things in our life, and how deeply this achievement reaches for the women in my family. It was on her arms that the emotions of attaining this title finally came to a head! (Luckily I’m hiding my face in the second picture, because I was ugly crying!) Next step, residency 🦷🧚‍♀️ #dentist #doctor #dentistmom #doctormom #graduation

Back at it… After almost a year of not running I did my first run today Background: last year while training and running a 1/2 I had some posterior Tib issues that HURT and also scared me.. instead of focusing on the speed or the number of miles.. I’m focusing on how long I am running for, and listening to my body (breaking when I need to, shortening my stride, and decreasing intensity) Another huge focus: Mobility exercises, continued strength training, and cross training with Yoga and Cycling. Biggest lessons learned 1. When you fall down, it’s scary, but get back up and try again 2. Listen to your body and it’s signals 3. Fuel yourself properly 4. Train safely Thanks to @womenshealthelevated who has always been a huge motivation on training safe and to so many other #runningmamas who are inspirational! #keeponrunning #healthymoms #womenswellness #transitionallifecoaching #doctormom #dothingsthatscareyou #busyobmama

It has been a tough few weeks for my family. The good news is my parents are recovering and getting stronger. But this marks probably the new chapter of their journey❤️ Growing old is not for the weary. I’m a dermatologist so a part of my job is to offer some tricks of the trade to my medical patients and help with wrinkles, folds and brown spots. Sometimes though we cannot do as much to help our bodies. Ive seen my parents become less strong, their legs not able to support them as they used to , their minds not being as active as before. It’s a real loss for those going through it….the loss of what was and the reality of what is now. It’s been a hard two weeks for all of us. The fear of losing our parents. The need to make sure they are safe. The respect to help maintain the independence they have. This responsibilities in addition to our lives, careers, responsibilities, kids, and our own medical things. Being in the sandwich generation has been exhausting. Especially these last two weeks. My love bug and I have both been learning about patience sacrifice and love. Though I’m challenged every day, balancing care for my parents and my soon to be second grader is amazing and I would not have it any other way. I’m blessed to be here and am grateful for all the support from my family friends and coparent. It takes a village! #aginggracefully #agingparents #sandwichgeneration #family #familyfirst #familyislove #doctormom #boymom #grateful #sandiego #thoughts #elderlycare #enjoyeachmoment

🌻Mental Health Awareness: The Hidden Link with Substance Use🌻 Did you know that mental health issues and substance use disorders often go hand in hand? This is known as having co-occurring disorders. Recognizing and treating these dual challenges is crucial for recovery. Here are some key points to understand: 1. Interconnected Struggles: Mental health conditions like depression and anxiety can lead to substance use as a form of self-medication. Conversely, substance use can exacerbate mental health issues, creating a vicious cycle. 2. Holistic Treatment: Effective treatment requires addressing both mental health and substance use disorders simultaneously. This can involve integrated therapy approaches, combining medication, counseling, and support groups. 3. Early Intervention: Spotting the signs early can make a significant difference. Look out for sudden behavioral changes, physical symptoms, and social withdrawal in yourself or loved ones. 4. Support Networks: Building a strong support system is essential. Engage with community resources, support groups, and mental health professionals who specialize in co-occurring disorders. 5. Stigma Reduction: One major barrier to seeking help is stigma. Educate yourself and others about the realities of mental health and substance use to foster a more understanding and supportive environment. By spreading awareness and understanding, we can break down the barriers that prevent people from getting the help they need. If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out for support. Help is available, and recovery is possible. For more information, resources, and support, visit samhsa.gov or call/text 988. Let’s stand together in breaking the cycle and promoting mental health for all.
