The Strangers We Know by Pip Drysdale When a woman sees her husbands face by accident on her friends dating app, she realises that’s the least of her problems… This was sitting on my shelf a long time so I finally picked it up for a read and I’m glad I did. Although, when I finished I did look at other reviews which were quite mixed - some thought the twist was predictable etc. However, I must be dense as I didn’t see it coming! The ending was a tad meh, but overall it was a good read.

It’s really fast paced and I always love the aspect of not knowing who we can trust in thrillers. Our main character, Charlie, is out with her friends when one of her friends is swiping on a dating app and Charlie sees her husband pop up. Can you even imagine? She tries to tell herself no this isn’t true, I was mistaken… but is she?? Everything starts unraveling from there and it was such a fun ride. Triple Audio Book Dump!! Two Truths and a Lie (Meg Mitchell Moore) - At first, I thought that this book was across between Desperate Housewives, and Big Little Lies. However, as the book progressed, nothing happened. It felt like it was building up to something, and then just fell flat. I wasn’t invested in any of the characters and felt that some of the storylines didn’t really go anywhere. I don’t know how to characterize this book as it wasn’t really suspenseful or exciting or attention grabbing. I guess if you want a lazy, easy, summer read, this may be for you. The Strangers We Know (Pip Drysdale) - Oh, this book started off on fun and engaging level, but then started going downhill and could not recover. I felt that the main character was very silly and was not using her head. I didn’t find the plot to be exciting or engaging and I kept waiting for something to happen, which never did. The side plot with the company seems to be something that the author threw in to try to justify things that happened but felt like it didn’t belong. I felt that every time the main character made a decision, I was shaking my head and disbelief of the level of her stupidity. The Ex (Alafair Burke) - I actually liked this book more than I thought I would. Especially the court/law scenes. I need to find more books like this. Anyway - I did have an inkling of the killer and waited to see how it would have played out. I also had an audible gasp in one chapter - did not see that happening the way it happened. I did enjoy all the characters and felt invested in figuring out what happened. The parties seemed real and personable. However, I felt as though the two story arcs were a little disconnected, and I was hoping for a bit more of an explosive climax, but that’s just my own preference. Overall, this was a fantastic read and one I would highly recommend to anyone who loves thrillers. Not only did it look like him, but Charlie took the picture of him. Of course he denies it but she is convinced it’s him and takes things into her own hands to find out the truth. She is going to get justice regardless of the cost to herself. She’s a modern-day vigilante who has taken it upon herself to dole out justice to men who have gotten away scot-free, despite their crimes against women. In doing so, she places herself in the dangerous position of potentially becoming the next victim (hence the title!). This book was pulse-pounding and had me on the edge of my seat the entire read. I was terrified for Billie, all while cheering her on. I was so personally invested in her need to succeed! While this was my first book by Drysdale, it will definitely not be my last. The Strangers We Know - Pip Drysdale When Charlie found a photo that she took on their honeymoon of her husband on a dating app, she had to do some further investigation - by joining a dating app. The husband on the dating app is not the same husband she’d married and his change of behaviour when associate Machado’s name is mentioned questions Charlie’s trust. I can’t reveal too much more as the plot thickens but all I can is, it’s a good book about lies, deception and DIY detective work. 2.5/5 🌟🌟 I really like the concept of the novel being told in Charlie’s POV and the plot twists but I’d struggle with one bit of Charlie going to her ex’s of 2 years’ apartment. I felt that was an odd choice of hiding, an invasion of privacy but maybe you lose all common sense when you panic and have nowhere to turn. . 24_2023 "The Strangers We Know" by Pip Drysdale #bookreview #fiction When newlywed Charlie sees her husband Oliver on a friend's dating app, she's devastated. But when she starts to think about it, other signs of betrayal begin to add up... so she signs up to the app to catch him out. But the more she digs into Oliver's life, the more she realises she doesn't know about him. This isn't a simple cheating story; there's death, deception, blackmail, fraud and framing. When Charlie is implicated in a suspicious death, she faces a time crunch to figure out what's going on before the police catch up with her and she has no logical explanation to give. It's compelling reading because, like Charlie, you just need to know what Oliver was up to and who can be trusted. However, it's told in first person, past tense and unfortunately the protagonist's inner monologue is repetitive (often triplicate), tedious, and annoyingly she breaks the fourth wall. I'm sick of that, it shatters the narrative illusion and it's generally condescending to the reader. I smashed this is 24 hours, such an easy fast paced read. A lighter psychological thriller. It reads like a Netflix series. Which isn’t surprising as it’s being developed for television. It’s a pretty generic storyline for a thriller but nevertheless a great read. The twists keep flowing right to the very end. It even has a little dark humour, which I actually laughed out loud at - this is a rarity for me! I felt very satisfied after reading this. Sometimes I can feel short changed after reading a book, not with this one. I really love Pips writing I find her books & characters are relatable. I love her first person narrative. Mocha mornings ☕️🌼 . . . The last few books I’ve read have been DNFs for me, I just couldn’t get into them and didn’t really have the energy to finish them. I find if a book hasn’t gripped me by the first 5 or so chapters I give up. Moving on to an easy thriller which usually always gets me out of a reading slump! 📚Book Review📚 Book: The Strangers We Know Author: Pip Drysdale Rating: ⭐️⭐️💫 (2.75) Charlie is madly in love with her husband, but she has just seen him on a dating app and now her entire world is thrown into question. It doesn’t help that when they first met he was in a relationship so Charlie knows that he is capable of cheating- but not on her, surely? Unfortunately this soon becomes the least of her problems… I went into The Strangers We Know really wanting to like it. I loved the premise and felt like it had so much potential. Unfortunately, the further I read the less I liked it. There were plenty of twists in this book but unfortunately I felt like they were all predictable and the landing fell pretty flat for me. It also bothered me that Charlie spoke directly to the reader and continuously told us that something bad was coming- For me it took away from the suspense and I would have much preferred to take the journey uninterrupted. However, while I didn’t love (or really like) The Strangers We Know I did appreciate the writing style of the author and I was interested in what would happen. BOOK REVIEW‼️ The Strangers We Know by Pip Drysdale Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 This was my second Pip Drysdale book and I really enjoyed it!! I read this one in 2022 but had to post its review because it’s that good! This book was an INTENSE page turner I couldn’t put down. It’s filled with unpredictable twists and is fast-paced. I loved the main character Charlie and following the story from her point of view as we get to know her and Oliver. Charlie gives an insight into the past which helps understand the story better. About the book: Imagine seeing your loving husband on a dating app. Now imagine that’s the best thing that happens to you all week… When Charlie sees a man who is the spitting image of her husband Oliver on a dating app, her heart stops. Her first instinct is to tell herself she must be mistaken - after all, she only caught a glimpse from a distance as her friends were laughingly swiping through the men on offer. No matter how much she tries to push her fears aside she can’t because she took that photo. On their honeymoon. Suddenly other signs of betrayal start to add up and so Charlie signs up to the app to catch Oliver in the act. But Charlie soon discovers that infidelity is the least of her problems. Nothing is as it seems and nobody is who she thinks they are… Recommend for fast-paced thriller lovers as Pip’s writing has you continuously guessing!
No review just a @pipdrysdale appreciation post. Every book has me struggling to put it down. Every book is so thrilling, exciting, daring and an all round wild ride! I FEEL the emotions of Taylor, Charlie, Harper or Billie. Her stories are not predictable which I LOVE, you think you know what’s going to happen and then bam it’s the total opposite. ⭐️⭐️ This was a fast paced page turner and I had to know what happened. I liked the setup of a woman finding her husband’s picture on a dating app only to have everything come crashing down over the next few days. However, the execution failed in my opinion. Charlie was annoying at times & kept doing dumb things. There were some ridiculous twists, but it all became rather predictable by the end. THE STRANGERS WE KNOW 🔪 Thriller RATING: 3.75/5 OK I did like this one a lot but damn the protagonist pissed me off. Grab your tea and let's discuss. Charlie sees a profile of a man who looks way too similar to her husband Oliver on a dating app on her friend's phone. Ok yes it's actually him. And she knows it's him because she took that photo of him. If this happened to me I would vomit out of rage (oh wait it did! More on that at another time). The more she thinks about it, the more signs she begins to see of betrayal. So instead of acting like a mature adult and confronting him about it, she creates a fake profile to catch him in the act. Ladies don't do this. Please! It's only when Oliver is discovered murdered, just after he took out a lot of life insurance, do people from the past emerge, the truth start comes out and police instantly suspect Charlie. In all fairness, even I suspected Charlie, and I was reading the damn book. Rather than go straight to police and cooperate, Charlie avoids them at all costs and isn't tries to discover her husband's killer/stalker. This is why police instantly suspect the partner. Don't be like Charlie. This has suspense and a great story to keep you wanting more. But if you wanted to throttle the protagonist as some point, I can tell you, you are not alone. "We all have a wound so deep, the air couldn't get to it." Apparently there is a Netflix film by the same title. Pip Drysdale - The Strangers We Know. Wow! So, imagine this: your bestie is having a wine with you and simultaneously swiping on a dating app and BAM you see your husband on that dating app. Now, you could’ve been mistaken IF it wasn’t for the fact that that photo you saw was a photo you took…. On your honeymoon! Charlie, our hero, starts to unpack this plot twist with us from the first few pages. It took me a about the first 75 pages to get used to Charlie’s way of storytelling as she says herself “I was complicated. Messy.” She’s slightly all over the place but her female instincts are driving her to find the truth - but will she? And how far must she go to understand the truth? Many turns and twists, finished it in days! My first Pip book, makes me want to read The Sunday Girl. Purchased second-hand at @st_vincents_de_paul_society
