💫Book Review💫 God of Pain - Rina Kent ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 🎧 Love Story by Taylor Swift So this is my second book from the ‘Legacy of Gods’ series, and I really enjoyed about 75% of the book - however I personally wasn’t a fan of the ending. This is such a grumpy & sunshine love story- Anni is a sweetheart, and gives such golden retriever energy. I also really liked how complex Creighton was. Learning about his past really broke my heart 💔 I loved how their relationship was developing throughout most of the story - however I just didn’t enjoy the ‘ending’. I feel a lot that happened at the end just didn’t match the personalities of the characters I had grown attached too. If the ending had been different, I easily would have given this book 4⭐️! This is a dark romance so please read the trigger warnings before starting it 🫶 So if I hadn’t already used ‘But Daddy I Love Him!’ for the first book in the series, I would have chosen that Taylor song for this book. However, my second choice would be ‘Love Story’ as this very much gives Romeo & Juliet vibes 🖤
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 You have to hand it to Mark Edwards. He comes up with the goods every, single time. And always with something different. And this, his latest, is no exception, combining elements of police procedural with his trademark bent for a dark psychological thriller. I read it in two sittings. As always, the plot is superbly constructed, following two apparently distinct storylines, both equally chilling and compelling. The prologue hooks you in immediately. Picture a Lake District beach in the early morning. A strange shape amongst the usual detritus on the tideline. It’s the head of a man, buried up to his neck in the sand and left to drown as the waves came in. Someone wanted him to suffer a slow, terrifying death. Now meet Calvin Matheson, local baker and café owner, who’s struggling to make his new business a success. Spurred on by his young assistant, he’s persuaded to try and create a buzz on social media. And when an early post goes viral, attracting a flood of customers, Calvin couldn’t be more thrilled. Until, that is, he attracts a stalker, his wife disappears, and events take a very dark turn. What follows is relentlessly gripping, from the brooding, atmospheric setting, to the inscrutable peripheral characters. From the minutiae of the murder investigation to Calvin’s spiraling desperation. And all of it propelled along by short, snappy chapters that jump between the two storylines, urging you to keep reading. When the two strands finally come together, it’s in an explosive, edge-of-the-seat finale that blew one of my ‘dead-cert’ predictions out of the water. Kudos to Mr Edwards for a very deft and credible piece of misdirection. If sneakily disguised revenge tropes are your thing, then this one’s for you. ⁉️ What’s your baked good weakness?

📘 Did I jump on the band wagon? 🤷♀️ Of course I did! I saw @beth.writes.books do this and thought how cute! She explained what she used. It was easy if not a little time consuming, but I'm a perfectionist. I had to throw my two in there because I'm proud I got 2 out within a year. Ta seria to jest taki #musthave każdego czytelnika, który lubi kryminał połączony z sensacją i okraszony odrobiną pikanterii. Tym razem przed bohaterami trudne wybory, którze mogą zniszczyć ich dotychczasowe życie. Głównym punktem jest tu lojalność. Dla Leny wobec męża, natomiast dla Huberta wobec służby, a także rodziny. To historia w której wolność nabiera innego znaczenia. Z całą pewnością Lena poznaje jej inne oblicze, lecz pojawia się również strach i obawa o wartości jakie ona wcześniej poznała, a raczej jakie zostały jej wpojone. Nie będę wam zdradzać za wiele, powiem tylko, że się dzieje. Czekam z niecierpliwością na dalszy ciąg 🖤. 📚 What's the last series you finished? 📚 What a rollercoaster ride this series was. I think that the 2nd book was my favorite. There is a character for everyone to love and to hate. Magic, new worlds, an evil enchantress, friendship and love are all aspects of this trilogy. Any notable reads so far in May? My current kindle read Light in G a z a is an emotionally devastating and eye-opening anthology about the P a l e s tinian experience. It aims to “break the intellectual blockade” on the most unusual, and now destroyed, places on Earth created by the worst dregs of humanity and beautified with the resilience of an oppre ssed community. This review might come as a surprise, but here it is. I’m confident when I say I’m not alone in loving books because of how they are written rather than for their subject matter. While I loved Jenny Erpenbeck’s prose and overall writing style, the subject of an illicit relationship between a 19-year-old girl and a much older man, almost 60, is something I don’t have the patience or stomach for. Some scenes were so cringeworthy that no matter how beautiful the prose was, it couldn’t cure the cringe. It was that terrible. I was very forgiving at first, even confident that I had already found “THE” book of 2024. Still, the story seemed to revolve around the love affair ONLY, as if everything else was noise disguised as political commentary. It was good while it lasted. The writing was excellent, hands down. The subject? Not so much. (There’s a pang of hurt and dismay while writing all this.) Have you read #Kairos? I found myself driving the long way home more than once to get a few more minutes of the story in. I also thought the short chapters worked well for the audio format. This would be a great book to read or listen on a flight. The Teacher by Frieda McFadden ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 This was my first read by this author and my gosh. Her switches between POV, the sprinkle of details that lead to twists and jaw drops, 🤯. Piglet 📖 Hm. I’m not sure how I felt about this book. I didn’t really connect with this character, nor did I understand her motivation. I didn’t get why she followed through with her wedding when she was so obviously struggling with it. I also felt like I was reading about someone with an eating disorder but that was a bit of a side story. I think I would have enjoyed it more had the author dove in there because it may have felt less meandering. However, I did enjoy the writing so I finished this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve found I like gothic, dark romances and this duology does it for me. You got magic, romance, monsters, tarot. What more do you need? I love that the men don’t play around in this book. They aren’t afraid to show emotions or who they have feelings for. The magic is so interesting and cool and well written. This entire book is well written. It has a way of captivating you and it’s so good.

An iconic lazy weekend. I planned this long weekend at a treehouse cabin in Luray, Virginia (see also: Luray Caverns and the George Washington National Forest). I planned on us being much more active and hiking around some northern trails we don’t always have access to, but alas, it rained the whole dang time we were here and there was nothing to do but read and eat and watch the wildlife from the deck.
