Change can be intimidating since it requires consistent effort and work. "I'm a born worrier" tells other that you have to worry, so don't try to stop me. Worriers have a belief that when they worry about something and then it doesn't happen then their worry was worth it and prevented the event. In reality, there was no relationship between our worrying and the failure of the event to happen. Worriers often lose the self-confidence in being able to create constructive solutions, or problem solve the worried event. In reality, chronic worriers are just as effective at problem solving as anyone else but because worrying reminds us of our low self-confidence we feel worse at the end of worrying than we did before. Since worries aren't good at obectively figuring out if they've solved a problem they will look to their mood to determine if they solved the problem. If our mood is negative, then we tell ourselves we haven't solved the problem and should continue to worry. A mental health professional can help you address chronic worrying and self-confidence. Are you emotionally mature? What does it mean to be emotionally mature? Here are a few tips for you to learn how to become more aware and in charge of your emotions. 1️⃣ Identify your emotions How can we manage our emotions if we don't know what we're feeling? It is important to reflect on our sensations, identify what is upsetting us and determine if it's worth giving it too much importance during our day. 2️⃣ Take responsibility It's important to learn how to take responsibility for our actions and learn how to admit when we are wrong. This way, we can learn from our mistakes. 3️⃣ Find a role model When you find yourself in a situation where you're struggling managing your emotions, think about your role model. What would they do? You can learn from them and, if they are part of your circle of friends, you can ask them for advice. It is ok to learn from others. 4️⃣ Pause and be patient When we are upset we are more likely to act impulsively and not think about what we do or say. Being able to pause, think of how we feel and mindfully react it's a big part of being emotionally mature. Remember, your feelings are valid, but you don't always have to act on them.
