Pour composer l'autel de Beltaine, j'ai mis : - des fleurs fraiches pour les autels principaux. - Des jares/fioles/récipients en verres, pour la pureté de ce matériaux. - Des bougies crées par @aubazardanae ( sur la premiere photo c'est la bougie crée pour mon mariage, sur la seconde '' Coeur de Dragon'', et sur la troisième, une bougie de mon mariage, et une patisserie de sorcière '' Rocher coco'') - Des cièges colorées. - Des pierres en lien avec Beltaine ( Ambre, cornaline, lapis lazuli, pierre de soleil..) - Des pierres qui me parlent pour la periode (cristal de roche, grenat, obsidienne) - Des idoles de divitées/elementaux (ici, des fées, des fioles au divinité. - Des Jares du Temples du Temps par @l.horlogerie_lunaire (cf photo 1&3) - Une fiole féerique sur l'autel de ma fille crée par @jarl_hrafna_skuldr ! Happy Walpurgis Night, also known as Hexennacht ! To celebrate it is customary to light candles or a bonfire if you have the space and welcome the changing of the seasons. It is also known as a witches sabbath where we use flying ointment to help commune with the wild spirits and astral travel. Tomorrow is Beltane also known as May Day and is thought of as the midway point between spring and summer so the days will slowly become hotter. It's been a while- I am still alive....... Blessed Beltaine a time our great ancestors revered. An ancient Gaelic festival to celebrate the beginning of summer. Since ancient times, Maypole has been present at the celebration of Beltaine, both in Celtic and Nordic society. Sometimes the trunk of Beltaine is made with the trunk of the last celebrated Yule. The part of the Yule trunk that is kept in the homes for the following year is the trunk that is used for the Maypole. At other times a tree is cut that can be of any of the 9 sacred woods. Then all the branches are removed except for the branches and it is placed in the center of town. The upper part is adorned with flowers and green branches as a symbol of fertility and the union of the god and goddess. Colored ribbons are tied at the top and left hanging for the dance and ritual. Our ancestors used white ribbons to represent the goddess and red ribbons to represent the god, but over time the ribbons have become different colors. The trunk represents masculine power and strength and the ribbons represent feminine energy, thus the union of the god and the goddess is present. The ritual consisted of a dance in which each ribbon was held by a person and they began to dance around the Maypole clockwise, thus the ribbons were braided wrapping around the trunk. Then the dance was done in the opposite direction in such a way that the tapes were loose again. In Scandinavia the Maypole is cross-shaped and represents the Yggdrasil. In the houses with each tape a wish is made while it is tied on the trunk and in the next Beltaine all the tapes are burned and the cycle is closed for another year ... 🌼 Celebrating Beltaine ☀️ May 1st ✨ On May Day, we began by making a fire outside. As per tradition, I danced around the firepit and chanted a prayer to Belisama. Then we made food following the Beltaine tradition of animal-based food and fresh food. We made a broccoli-bell pepper pie, then went out to pick acacia flowers that we fried as a dessert and borago flowers for the altar offering. We also made crêpes 😊 After eating, we wanted to go to the fire to roast fruits but it started raining haha 🌧️ I came back inside and closed the day with a prayer to Belisama, a commitment chant and a meditation to connect with her. It was a beautiful celebration ☀️ Belisama and Belenos made it a great day for us and I was so happy to share that time with my sister (@loveall.trustafew go follow her for beautiful photography of French landscapes). Did you know Beltaine comes from the names of both deities, because Bel means radiant, shining in the Gallic language? 🌼 Beltaine Altar 🕯️30th April 🌌 I celebrated Beltane with my sister. Beltane, in the Gallic faith (the Gauls), is a celebration of the sun and the god and goddess of the sun, the fire and the light. Belenos is the god of the sun, the Sunlight God. He's the father of our tribe and faith and we celebrate him with a bonfire. Belisama is the goddess of the hearth, the Radiant One. She's the protector of the home, the tribe's people, and the crafts (especially done with fire, like the forge, blacksmiths, glass molding, etc.). Belisama is the main deity I work with so Beltaine is a very important holiday for me. I had two altars, one for the night of the 30th and one for May 1st. The one pictured here is for the night, with an offering of pomegranate and borago for Belenos as well as a cup of milk and honey for the Fées. ♥️HANDFASTING is the ceremony of joining hands of pagan societies. It was mainly practiced in the Nordic and Celtic culture, and it seems that its origin is in the ancient Nordic peoples. Handfasting was in use until after the Middle Age and then it was forgotten until about the 60s, when it re-emerged in England. In handfasting it was held 4 times between a couple, that is, a first ceremony and three renewals. The ceremony consists of a ritual with the 4 elements present, and in which the couple presents their pacts. The union is represented through a bow, originally red, which is tied forming the symbol of infinity by joining the couple's hands, while looking into each other's eyes, face to face, and their hands are resting on a stone on the altar . After a year the couple returns to do another ceremony in which, if they want to continue together, they will renew their pacts. There will be a third ceremony at age 3 and a final ceremony at age 7. In Beltane the season of joining hands begins, since now is when the god joins the goddess and the luminous season begins, the fertile season of the year. * WALPURGISNACHT * The night of April 30 to May 1 is celebrated Walpurgisnacht, the night of Walpurgis. It is a typical celebration of the peoples of northern Europe, especially Germany, Finland, Sweden, Holland .... Walpurgisnacht is the equivalent of Beltaine, the energies are the same, the purpose is the same, but in Walpurgis the venerated gods they are Freyja and Odín. In the ancient Germanic towns the fertility goddess Walborg (Walburga) was worshiped. Waluburg was the name of the seer of the Germanic people of the Semnones. The root of the word Waluburg is also found in Walus (magic staff), Wala (seer), Walkürien (valkyrie), and has an important similarity with the word völva. * BELTAINE, PART IV * There are many legends related to Beltaine and today I will tell you some of them. A Russian legend tells that the night of Beltaine all the green beings of the forest can go for a walk. So all the trees, plants and bushes spend the night walking but at dawn they must return to their places, to wait another year for the Beltaine night. This event is called THE WALK OF THE TREES. In Krakovia there are two burial mounds called Krakus and Wanda. At dawn on Beltaine's day from the top of Krakus the sun rises just behind the top of Wanda, while at sunset that same day from the top of Wanda the sun is seen hiding behind the top of Krakus. Wanda was the daughter of Krakus, and she was buried in a burial mound near her father after she died refusing to marry a German prince. Wanda threw herself into the waters of the Vistula River. In Celtic culture the Tuatha Dé Danann arrived in Ireland on Beltaine's day. The race of gods arrived on the shores of the emerald island aboard flying ships. There were so many boats that covered the sunlight and darkened the skies for 3 days. When they set foot on the ground they lit great bonfires to celebrate it, and thus began the tradition of fire at the Feast of Beltaine. In Norse mythology Freyja and Odin are the gods to whom the celebration of Beltaine is dedicated. Freyja, goddess of fertility, love and seidr magic, travels the skies in her chariot drawn by two cats. Freyja uses her magic to spread fertility throughout the land, and later joins Freyr at the top of the holy mount. Odin represents fire, since on Beltaine's night Odin died for a moment after hanging 9 days and 9 nights from the Yggdrasil. The moment Odin dies the lights of the Nine Worlds go out. But he only dies an instant, to return with the knowledge and wisdom of the runes. Then the lights of the Nine Worlds come back on, and that's why fires are lit, in honor of Odin's awakening. * BELTAINE, PART III * In addition to the rituals around the fire in Beltaine there is another very important symbol, it is called Maypole, Beltaine's trunk. Since ancient times, Maypole has been present at the celebration of Beltaine, both in Celtic and Nordic society. Sometimes the trunk of Beltaine is made with the trunk of the last celebrated Yule. The part of the Yule trunk that is kept in the homes for the following year is the trunk that is used for the Maypole. At other times a tree is cut that can be of any of the 9 sacred woods. Then all the branches are removed except for the branches and it is placed in the center of town. Then the dance was done in the opposite direction in such a way that the tapes were loose again. In Scandinavia the Maypole is cross-shaped and represents the Yggdrasil. In the houses with each tape a wish is made while it is tied on the trunk and in the next Beltaine all the tapes are burned and the cycle is closed for another year ... * BELTAINE, PART II * Fire is Beltaine's most important thing. In Ireland people went to the peaks to light large bonfires that were kept burning all night. In old Gaelic BELTANE means "fire of good luck". On the hill of Tara only the king could light a first fire. Bonfires were to be lit with wood from the nine sacred trees. The dance and the party continue until dawn. It was customary to spend the night in the forest, especially as a couple, and at dawn people bathed in rivers and lakes, collected the dew from the plants and the maidens drank that water since it was considered that during the night the magic had impregnated all the forest water. The unmarried girls adorned their hair with flower crowns and in the town people chose one of them, the most beautiful, the Flower Maiden or Queen of May. A boy from the village was also chosen, representing the Green Man. The couple represents the union of the god and the goddess. Between them there was a symbolic ritual called Handfasting (which I will tell you about in another post), and then they spent the night together in the forest. Are you enjoying Solar Beltaine? It officially started a few hours ago. I started the day foraging to make a woodland incense for my mini Beltaine bonfire (I will turn some of it into a woodland potpourri) - moss, bark, pine cones, pine needles, cedar, flowers and more. I will also add a little frankincense and a couple of drops of EOs. . . In the evening, I added a few more candles to the altar I used on May 1st (calendar Beltaine) and took a 🌀shapeshifting Lower World / Middle World journey with my new guide from the ✨Fey... into the 🌎mineral/Earth kingdom... the 🌲plant kingdom... the 🐴animal kingdom ... and back to the 👫human kingdom.
