The figure of Aphrodite arrived, and she's absolutely beautiful. The altar was already wonderful to speak to, but the figure completes it. It actually makes me a but more nervous than usual, I think it's because now that there's an actual figure that symbolizes her–it feels as if she's watching and sort of scrutinizing me...in a sense? I've finished the tarot session I mentioned I would do with her, and I've written/recorded the results. I needed a cloth and candles for the altar, so I'm glad I was able to purchase this beautiful runner from Homegoods and these candle holders from the thrift store. I haven't lit the candles yet because I'm waiting until I can get a figure of Aphrodite. I feel like I don't have her full presence yet. But for now, I am using the roses as her representation—the whole altar is her, but the roses always catch my eye. I know she understands. Celebrating Imbolc Imbolc is a celtic festival associated with the Goddess Brigid. It is celebrated from 1st to 2nd of February. It is a time to start welcoming in the light and first blooms of spring. Imbolc is one of my favourite festivals to celebrate. Spring is one of my favourite times of year where the energy is gathering again and things that have been dormant are waking up and it feels amazing. I like to set up my altar and this year it is a large dedication to brigid who I have been starting a relationship with lately. I have lots of symbolism of the goddess and feminine energy. Bringing in flowers of the season is also a hige oart of my practice. These are bought from a shop but I do bring in wild ones once these begin to grow. I will be spending time outside and feeling the shift of energy. It is still very rainy and wet where I am but having a connection to nature is a huge part of my practice. Creating myself a little abundance altar on my desk… As I build my spiritual business, await the souls I’m meant to help and slowly build an income from readings, I still have “earthly junk” to attend to (mortgage, bills, a physical body to feed), which means I still need to work in my old business, the one that *doesn’t* fill my soul with joy and my heart with love. Whilst I’m grateful I still have an income and a way to pay the bills, it’s extremely hard to motivate myself to work in an industry that feels constrictive, false and in so many ways the opposite of what I value and believe in. The first ever public posting of my personal altar. I was chatting on Discord about altars and just had the sudden urge to show off mine. It’s able to be dismantled and stored in the box that is used for its base. On it, we have my handcrafted wand (also making its first public appearance), a stone pillar to signify a nexus point of power, my pendulum board with my 5 different pendulums not pictured, my sage and copper dish, which I sometimes use for offerings as well, and my altar bell that I ring at the beginning and end of every ritual. I’ve spent quite a while gathering all the pieces and laying it out properly. There are variations to this design, but this is the baseline. A la hora de crear un altar surgen muchas dudas, pero lo cierto es que no hay una fórmula única y correcta. En este post planteo los elementos básicos que se suelen emplear, aunque se puede prescindir de algunos. Es muy común leer en redes cómo se supone que debe ser un altar y todos los elementos que debe tener, incluso hay corrientes que especifican hasta la orientación del mismo y la posición de cada cosa! En mi experiencia, un altar es un espacio en constante movimiento y evolución, y se va a adaptar al espíritu al que sea dedicado. En el pasado muchas veces quise armar mi primer altar pero por algún motivo lo retrasaba, quería que todo fuera perfecto. Eso fue porque no estaba pensando en lo que mis espíritus necesitaban, sino en lo que a mí me gustaba. Al final dí el paso y empecé únicamente con una vela blanca y una copa de agua, y con el tiempo le fui dando forma. En mi caso personal solo uso un único altar y allí atiendo a casi todos mis espíritus, pero sé que hay casos en lo que esto no es lo indicado, sobre todo si son muy opuestos entre sí o si se trata de espiritualidades muy potentes que requieren de su propio espacio. Considero que si se hace a conciencia y de corazón, los espíritus van a aceptar lo que se les pueda brindar.
