Our rituals connected to death are also about life and healing. When Africans were brought to Jamaica as slaves we had to heal ourselves and each other with traditional practices and herbs but we had death and brutality all around. A lot of damage we could not heal but we had to keep our mind strong The traditional practices from our ancestors continue today in Obeah and bush medicine. Now it is mixed with Christianity taught to us by our slave masters. There are many long complicated threads to life and medicine and death. The painting shows the Obeah man in the community with traditional offering to the ancestors. The white dove which symbolises sacrifice and peace. The painting costs £300. Douceur et intensité nous ont accompagné et inspiré pour faire naître sur la toile ce dragon-loup de feu et l'Oeil, toujours présent depuis le début de ma pratique du dessin. Je suis peintre de naissance et heureuse de l'être. Une personne m'a dit que c'est courageux de me livrer à cet exercice de peindre en public. Water and space - 2022 Technique mixte sur toile - 130 x 97 cm Le désir d'exploration de la lumière à travers la couleur m'a naturellement conduite à l'abstraction. Le détachement de toute forme connue s'est fait progressivement, souvent avec appréhension. Grâce à l'apprentissage de la transe cognitive auto-induite, je peux de mieux en mieux mettre l'autocensure en veilleuse pour m'autoriser à exprimer ce qui me touche tant dans la pratique et l'observation de la peinture; la quête de la lumière devient alors un prétexte pour transmettre l'émotion. The detachment of any known shape came gradually, often with fear.
