🙃 3 year bookstaversary!! 🙂 Happy Saturday friends! I'm writing this at 3am the night before posting it so forgive me if this falls flat I am so tired lmao. Also allow me to introduce you to my new Dino kids, tic and tac. I feel like I just turned 18 only a few months ago but I guess time really sped past. I attempted to spell nineteen please tell me someone sees it lmfao. edit: ty for all the birthday wishes in my DMs y'all are the best 🫶 I did not a lot the last year honestly but a few significant things to note I feel like. I graduated high school and then went through my first school year where I wasn't actually in school at all? It was so weird to sit and think about sometimes honestly. And even weirder that I'm now starting to get stuff in order to start college in the fall. I feel like I've changed my mind for what I wanna do many many times and I might still do it a few more times but for now I've landed on getting my librarian science degree and have the end goal of one day working in a school library. It just looks so fun to do honestly and if I'm gonna spend the time on school for it I'm gonna do something I'm gonna love. Librarians are their own special brand of magic and I admire the hell out of them and I hope I see it through to do the same. Ellos pensaron que nunca más se verían hasta que Hunter es reasignado al instituto de Luna, allí sus destinos quedan sellados. 🏹Podríamos decir que la novela tiene algunas vibes de Romeo y Julieta en el sentido que sus familias no se llevan bien, hay cierta rivalidad entre los padres y su romance es prohibido por eso, pero en mi caso no he visto más similitudes. 🏹En Fairbridge van a aparecer unas grietas en el suelo e irá dividiendo la ciudad, parece que a nadie le importa este hecho, a su vez Luna empieza a ver unas luciérnagas que parecen que le quieren hacer ver algo. 🏹Tenemos un romance lento, no tiene escenas subidas de tono, sí que me faltó pasión juvenil que no vi por ninguna parte, tal vez por la cultura de ambos. La familia de ambos no debe enterarse de lo suyo porque saben que no lo entenderán. 🏹Ellos van a pasar mucho tiempo juntos porque se sienten atraídos entre ellos como si fuera por una fuerza mágica. 🏹La novela no es mala, mi problema con ella ha sido la parte de realismo mágico porque no he terminado de entender algunas cosas o cómo llegan a ciertas conclusiones. [DNF] . 📔 : An Arrow to the Moon 🧑💻 : Emily X R Pan 🏣 : Prions chaldéens Book 📚 : 1 tome (terminé) 💶 : 10 € . On se retrouve ici avec un livre qui est arrivé dans ma PAL sans que je le demande. Pour me donner un envie on me l'a vendu comme une romance fantastique asiatique avec une romance à la Roméo et Juliette. . Avec un remix de la fille de la déesse de la lune on va suivre Hunter qui est un bon archer mais pour lequel sa vie est hantée par les erreurs passées de sa famille. Et Luna, fille qui est le rêve de tout parent, bonne éducation et bonne élève. . Quand les routes des héros se croisent des événements improbables se passent comme l'apparition d'une inquiétante fissure dans la ville où des lucioles. . Pour être franche j'ai abandonné à 21% soit au tout début. Je n'ai pas réussi à entrer dans l'histoire et je trouvais pas ça hyper crédible. . Dans ce livre les chapitres sont hyper courts donc on a l'impression d'avancer vite mais, car il y a un mais, c'est un multiple point de vie entre Hunter, Luna, le frère de Hunter et leurs parents respectifs. Donc finalement l'histoire n'avance pas. Les chapitres s'entremêlaient sans qu'il n'y ai de fil conducteur entre chacun. . Ce qui amène au final à un désintérêt pour le livre et à juste vouloir le terminer sans vraiment profiter de la lecture. 🌕 Happy Worm Moon! 🌕 . The worm moon starts chilly, a cool morning leading to a warm day, fitting for a day of chores that needs buildup. This moon requires cleaning, spring ushered in with newness: new growth and new moon water and a new sense of self. The moon witch is busy as always on this moon, for it's the time she refreshes teas and dried petals and long-lasting moon blessed items. Cupboards are opened and cleaned, dark corners are swept and windows thrown wide to let in the light. Sometimes the moon witch thinks this is her busiest moon, but it's also one of her favorites, for at the end she's filled with a sense of accomplishment and pride in what she's done. . . When I wrote the first moon witch poem last April, it was just for fun and to write something with a little magic. I didn't originally plan to do a year's worth of full moon poems but here we are, at the end of the year. I suppose I could have done April to April, but I'm saying goodbye this month to the moon witch. Goodbye for now, at least. I may revisit her again one day. . Fry makes it so relatable to the modern reader. 🍵 Daughter of the Moon Goddess (Chinese) - Xingyin is the daughter of Chang'e the moon goddess, and Hou Yi the archer. Following her birth, her mother was exiled to the Moon, where she grew up in secret, until risk of the knowledge of her existence forces her to feel. Se trata de una curiosa lectura de fantasía urbana inspirada en la mitología china que incita a creer en las leyendas y la magia creando una atmósfera mítica que envuelve una historia que va más allá de las apariencias. Nos encontramos ante un enemies/friends to lovers (+ cliché de los elegidos) dentro de una historia de instituto con salseo, punto de drama, crecimiento personal y primeras veces que reflexiona sobre la familia y las creencias/valores que nos imponen desde la cuna. 🗯𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮 Bastante pausada con toda la acción precipitada al final. Buen equilibrio diálogo/narración. 👤𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗷𝗲𝘀 Hay variedad de narradores, no solo Luna y Hunter, sino también sus padres y hermanos entre otros. Lo que ofrece diferentes puntos de vista que ayudan a enmarcar la trama. 💬𝗟𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗷𝗲 Fresco y actual con un toque de misticismo oriental. 🗣𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼 Sí, pero para entrar sin hype y con la mente abierta. La premisa es buena y se notan las intenciones de la autora de darle un toque moderno al cuento que escuchó siendo una niña, añadiéndole un poco de la historia trágica que William Shakespeare creó, sin embargo, siento que para mi, al final de la historia, quedó un hueco. Comienza con una trama atrapante, pero va perdiendo fuerza conforme se avanza. No pude conectar del todo con los protagonistas, no noté una rivalidad tan profunda para que fuera memorable entre las familias de ambos, siento que le faltó más acción a la trama, más emoción, pero eso no quita el hecho de que sea un libro que alguien más pueda disfrutar, no es malo, tiene sus cosas buenas, sólo no es la clase de historia que estaba buscando. La autora nos muestra ese conflicto que existe entre los taiwaneses/chinos y algunas de sus diferencias políticas. En esta historia encontramos ese conflicto entre ambas familias de los protagonistas. En muchas ocasiones solo se centra la historia entre los problemas entre ellos que más que en los propios protagonistas, con lo cual empezó a decepcionarme a medida que avanzaba. La trama es muy pausada, demasiado. Aunque valoré muchísimo que los capítulos fueran cortos y la narración sencilla. Sin demasiadas florituras ni detalles superfluos en exceso. ↞ 🌙↠ No encontré esa similitud con el romance entre Romeo y Julieta. Más bien lo que encontré fue un bonito cuento juvenil, con una historia de amor de patio de colegio, demasiado adolescente y sin grandes pretensiones. Con las complicaciones y angustias que ocurren en esa etapa de nuestras vidas. Esas dudas que nos parecen un mundo, esos temores e inseguridades muy propias de la inmadurez. Escasea mucho en temas más significativos que ocurren entre ellos, dando paso a la focalización a la familia, sus rencillas, sus traumas, y su vida diaria, dónde apenas ocurre nada y dónde de la misma forma se deja de forma muy secundaria a los protagonistas. ↞ 🌙↠ Creo que clasificaría este libro dentro del realismo mágico más que en el #youngadult. Se basa en un romance histórico, pero con muchos elementos muy fantásticos y que se filtran en diferentes aspectos de la trama y entre los personajes y su cotidianidad. Quizás con muchos menos años, lo hubiera disfrutado. An Arrow to the Moon review 4⭐️ • This was such a beautiful story. The ending was quite sad, and I may have teared up a bit, but I knew the story of Chang’e and Houyi going into this so I wasn’t too surprised by it. There are tons of POV’s for this one, and I feel like not all were absolutely necessary, so that’s why this wasn’t a full 5 stars from me. However, this was definitely a character driven book, and I did end up liking most of the characters we read from even if it was a few too many. The writing in this book is just so beautiful and really pulled me in. It made me care for Hunter and Luna so deeply. I loved the magical aspect of this as well! I just think this was such a good book, and I am excited to read her other novel, The Astonishing Color of After, that I hear everyone constantly talking about. • I love how pretty this book is! My favorite detail is the little moon on all of Luna’s chapters and the sun on all of Hunter’s.

Btw yes, I obviously do. 😂😂😂 Guten Abend meine Lieben 🤔 Seit einer Weile geht ja mal wieder die Diskussion rum, dass Hörbücher ja nicht als "lesen" zählen, weil man sie ja gehört hat. Wenn man so kleinlich sein möchte und es nur auf das Wort beschränken möchte, joa gut, an sich richtig. Aber sind wir mal ehrlich, nicht alle können möglicherweise aus gesundheitlichen Gründen ein Buch auf dem typischen Wege lesen. Oder haben keine Zeit dafür oder oder oder. Die meisten Hörbücher sind auch nicht verkürzt, also hat man am Ende, genau den Inhalt konsumiert, den man konsumiert hätte, wenn man das Buch gelesen hätte. 😑 Fazit: Hörbuch = gelesene Buch. Zumindest für mich. Dann die großartige Diskussion rund um Comic, Manga usw. Ja klar haben die einen großen Bildanteil, aber es ist und bleibt eine Geschichte, die da erzählt wird. Also ein neues Abenteuer, das man lesen und erleben kann. Für mich zählt auch das definitiv als gelesenes Buch. Und um ganz schockierend zu sein, ja auch Bücher unter 100 Seiten sind ein gelesenes Buch. 😋😂😑 Ich mag diese Abwertung wirklich nicht mehr sehen, wenn ich Kommentare zu Beiträgen sehe, bei denen sich jemand freut XY Bücher im Jahr gelesen zu haben und dann nur abgewertet wird, dass es ja eh "nur" Comics, Manga und Hörbücher gewesen sein können. Möglicherweise war das auch so. Und? Wo ist das das Problem? Ist das dadurch weniger gut/ schön/ toll/erwähnenswert? Und warum sollten es eben nicht ie "normalen" (ich mag das Wort nicht) Bücher gewesen sein? Ich für meinen Teil habe beschlossen, dass ich dieses Jahr mehr Hörbücher hören will (wenigstens eins😂🙈) und definitiv mehr aus der Comic und Manga Richtung. 😋 Und ja, ich werde alles zählen, denn es sind und bleiben Bücher. Winter reading recs! It's supposed to rain this week, which is as close as we'll get to true wintery weather. Well, that and reading about wintery climates, curled up under a blanket with a mug of cocoa. YA FAVORITES OF 2023 🎉 Disclaimer: this is not a comprehensive list because several books I wanted to include were (luckily) checked out of my library. WARRIOR GIRL UNEARTHED: Mystery with serious social consequences and insight into the Indigenous community; plus Boulley is a queen. SUNSHINE: I ugly cried reading this one, but because I was that touched. The best follow up to another best, HEY, KIDDO. HEARTSTOPPER 5: Arguably the best Heartstopper. The way this one deals with a maturing relationship is so joyful and healthy. Every kid needs this series. AN ARROW TO THE MOON: A hot modern take on Romeo + Juliet infused with Chinese mythology. Hands down one of the best books I've read this year and probably I would consider it a favorite overall. ENTER THE BODY: Some of Shakespeare's lady characters get to reclaim and rewrite their own stories and it is just so unique and wonderful for all the English majors out there and for all the kids who like classics. A HEAVY DOSE OF ALLISON TANDY: This book made me LOL often. So witty and clever. And such a good *boy book* despite the girl on the cover. A real freaking gem. TRULY DEVIOUS: I was late to this party and I feel like every teacher on Instagram has already read and loved it. Now I know why. WHALE TALK: Turns out Chris Crutcher is one of the greatest young adult authors going. # 338 📖 An Arrow to the Moon ✨ Emily X.R. Pan It feels like a fantasy stand-alone is so rare that we must treasure and protect them ❤️❤️❤️❤️❣️ REVIEW ✨ Oh my little heart! I loved every moment of this and was in agony too - always makes for a good time reading!! Truthfully I don’t know why I delayed reading this for so long. I knew it was a Romeo and Juliet retelling of Chang’e and Hou Yi which just sounded so incredible to me, especially after devouring the Daughter of the Moon Goddess duology, I knew I needed more of that story - and this was even better than I imagined! Firstly I love the names! And I loved the story. There were so many little twists and I had no idea what was happening with the town and the rivalry between their families and how it was going to be resolved. I always love reading dating in secret due to family rivalry or similar and this was so cute. Hunter and Luna were just so perfect with each other, genuinely my heart couldn’t cope! While I didn’t know where the story was going, I suspected how it was going to end. It was perfectly what should happen, not really what I wanted to happen - so it was heartwarming and simultaneously heartbreaking! The worst bit for me was the last chapter with Cody (Hunter’s brother). I only read a few sentences before I stopped and decided reading it in public would be too embarrassing - and I was right cause when I eventually did read it, big ugly sobs. I have a few unanswered questions about Cody and what the stone actually was and a bit more about the family rivalry. Tonight the first fruits, saved and preserved for this moon, will be offered to bless the season's harvest, a request for abundance and blessings. The harvest gatherings from today will be used for baking and cooking, for preparing for the harvest festival, a celebration of the year and the season and all that is to come. The moon witch prepares her additions for the celebration, tea and lemonade made with moon blessed water, scones made with petals from a moon blessed plant. The moon witch loves the festival, with the children running to and fro and begging her at moonrise to use her powers. And although she never treats them as a trick she also can't resist treating the children, and adults, to a little magic strengthened by the moon, a little show to remind them that magic is wondrous and transformative and not to be feared. [Bilan/Wrap Up] . Hey ! Il est temps de vous parler de mes lectures de juillet. Un bon mois globalement. Total : 7 romans lus . Le top du mois est, sans conteste, #DivineRivals. Quelle belle surprise ! Ce roman m'a totalement bouleversée. Le mélange historique et fantasy fonctionne à merveille. Iris et Roman ont fait chaviré mon petit cœur. C'était magnifique🥰 . J'ai retrouvé K.A. Tucker comme je l'aime avec #ChasingRiver. Un bon romantic suspense. La romance prend le dessus mais la partie suspens apporte ce petit danger supplémentaire. Cependant, j'ai trouvé que cela manquait de tension et de réel danger. Ca se résout assez facilement je trouve. Mais j'ai aimé ces derniers moments avec Amber, Ryle et les survivants. . J'ai bien aimé l'ambiance semblable à Chihiro de #TheGirlWhoFellBeneathTheSea mais guère plus. C'était beau et poétique mais je n'ai pas été happée par le récit. A pair of star crossed lovers take their life 🎭📚😊💕 ✨ Book Review ✨ An Arrow to the Moon is a Shakespeare retelling of Romeo and Juliet, mixed with Chinese mythology. We follow Hunter and Luna through high school, when their paths eventually cross in a basement of a house and from there the story unfolds. This was actually a lot better than I was expecting, at first I really wasn't sure how I felt about the high school setting, but it was paired really nicely with the supernatural and offered that teen angst you need for Romeo and Juliet. One thing I always appreciate in retellings of this Shakespearean tragedy is that authors tend to make the chemistry and relationship much more believable, and Emily X R Pan is no exception, developing the connection to a friendship, camaraderie and eventual attraction and loving relationship. The element of conflict in the novel was cleverly done too, with the parents academic rivals and Hunter's family having the secrets they have (no spoilers here!). The violence that was chosen by Emily was very very clever and added to the tension between the two protagonists but also helped deepen their relationship. I thought that pairing it with the legend of Houyi and Chang'e was so smart, the lovers are definitely star crossed and fated to love each other from a distance. The ending broke me a little bit I have to say. Cody. That's all I can say without major spoilers, but it was a really good ode to the play and also to the Chinese myth it featured. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed, a quick read and a book I will recommend to YA contemporary lovers with a bit of magical realism/supernatural thrown in there. 🌕 31 on the 31st, on a full blue moon supermoon 🌕 . . Depending on time zones, the second full moon of August was either the evening of the 30th or early in the morning on the 31st, therefore my birthday today falls on a full moon. And obviously I had to take the theme and run with it. . I painted my nails blue and made a moon bracelet. My dress is blue to reflect to blue moon, the Daisy scarf scrunchie from @fablebands represents the full moon, and I wore my moon necklace that shows the moon on the night I was born. Add in my moon witch stack of books featuring House of Hollow painted by @embossandspine with a moon on the side and the first new @blueforestblackmoon Moon Drop candle for the Blue Moon, and I felt perfectly on theme. And yes, I went outside to see the moon last night and it was gorgeous! . An Arrow to the Moon by Emily XR Pan ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ya know, even though I knew this was a Romeo and Juliet retelling, I was still expecting a happier ending. Like, that was borderline depressing. 😂 I really loved the other book I’ve read by Emily XR Pan (The Astonishing Color of After), so I had really high hopes going into this one and it didn’t quite meet them. I mean, it was a cute romance, just missed some of the depth of feeling compared to TACoA (I mean, they’re vastly different types of stories, but still).
