We’re going to be guiding you through a girly get together - practically doing elements of our Ayurvedic Morning Routine together (not the evacuation part 😅😁) with tips for how to perform abhyanga, plus marma for hormonal balance; trataka; aromatherapy; and more. I can guarantee to you one thing, you have the power to change. But, a lot of us neglect this power. We fall victim to ourselves, our circumstances, and the perceived judgment of others. Trust me, I neglect this power at times myself. And what I always find is the more I neglect by ability to change and stay bound to my circumstance the longer it takes me to reawaken this power. And this isn’t some superpower I’m talking about here, I’m talking about our power to be honest with what we say we want to change and be truthful about our effort toward that. That is a multifaceted power made up of our ability to be honest, vulnerable, realistic, and persistent. Not always easy, but always in our control. One of my favorite places to start this process of powering up is journaling. It’s a judgement free place to express yourself, that’s not your noisy pessimistic head. Once you’ve expressed everything you want, now you can actually look over your entry with some level of objection, or judgment free thought and be more clear on what you can do to create change. I find just the act of getting out of my head already makes me feel better, but being able to look at what I write allows me to better understand what’s in my control and that also starts to give me back power, knowing I can do this. I prefer writing in a notebook or actual journal vs something on my phone, because I look for any reason I can to be away from my phone and stay focused. So next time you’re in a rut, feeling stressed, depressed, angry, take out a notebook and write, it doesn’t have to make sense, it doesn’t have to be, neat organized or any of that. One of the things that can help us sleep better consistently is building a wind down routine that - over time - can make falling (and staying) asleep easier 🥱💤 For me that looks like dimming the lights around me, having a cup of herbal tea and reading in bed, with some aromatherapy oil like the Sleep Better blend from @tisseranduk and some soft music in the background. Having this 30 to 60 minute routine, especially after a long day, allows my brain to relax and ease into sleep. We often stay up late watching films or scrolling social media yet expect to be able to then just be able to switch our brain off and fall asleep, but it doesn’t work like that. Our brain needs some predictability and some cues that signal to it that we are safe in order to switch off. Of course we may have a lot going on in our lives, and sometimes bedtime is when everything can weigh heavy and all our fears and worries get amplified - we have a choice then also to either keep worrying, or to park whatever it is that is weighing heavy on our mind, and pick it up again at a time when we feel we might be better equipped to address those fears and concerns. Sometimes keeping a small notepad and a pen on the bedside table and jotting things down as they come to mind can help us avoid getting hooked on specific thoughts and missing out on sleep. Also, if we are feeling consistently overwhelmed or are struggling with sleep or our mental health in general, it’s important to reach out to a therapist, who can help us unpack how we feel and what might be affecting us, and develop strategies to cope with or overcome those things. If you struggle with your energy and mood, SAVE THIS & keep reading! 👇🏽 If you find yourself on an energy & mood rollercoaster (or turn into a nighttime snack monster), you might need to up your protein! This has been a game changer for me and my clients! Things that happen when you start to up your protein: 🫘 Sustained energy without the mid-morning & mid-afternoon crashes 🥩 Fewer night-time cravings (being on the blood sugar rollercoaster contributes to sugar cravings) - this one has been a big win for my clients who used to feel controlled by their daily sugar cravings! 🫘 Keeps you full for longer, meaning less mindless snacking throughout the day and ravenous episodes of hunger 🥩 Helps to maintain a balanced mood (once again, getting off the blood sugar rollercoaster….blood sugar management is key folks!) 🫘 Crucial for building muscle mass but also helps heal your gut lining! Quality matters folks, so when opting for animal protein, try for high-quality options (organic, pasture-raised & grass-fed if possible!). A common recommendation is 30g of protein per meal, but this can be a lot if you aren’t used to eating a lot of protein (I’ve talked about this on my stories before). So instead, start by aiming for 30g with breakfast (this prevents you from starting your day on the blood sugar rollercoaster & will impact your eating for the rest of the day). Once you get comfortable with this, try having 30g for lunch or dinner. Remember, listen to your body! I never recommend stuffing yourself for the sake of hitting your protein goals. It can even help alleviate allergy symptoms related to dust and pollen. The expert recommendation is to have at least 2 plants for every 500 square feet in order to experience the most benefit. ‼️Our body is always in communication with us and giving us warning signs if it’s not “happy”. Are we listening is the question? Would you fail this quick 5 point check of your gut health? 🚦 I know at one point 3-4 of these were consistently alarming for me. I ignored it for awhile until I decided enough was enough. I want MORE energy. I want to wake up feeling WELL RESTED. We are creating our physiology anew with every action we perform throughout the day. We cannot live a life of health mistakes that create imbalance and then expect the doctor to save us with a "magic bullet" from her drug armamentarium. Imbalances, symptoms and diseases grow from seed form into gross pathology over many years. They are caused by unhealthy choices made day after day. To remove the problem we just cannot avoid having to address its true cause- our lifestyle. Even modern medicine is now recognizing that lifestyle and diet are the keys to prevention of disease and can actually reverse many disorders. Studies on osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and mental function are showing in many cases that diet and lifestyle outperform the top drug therapies while creating many side-benefits instead of side-effects. I believe that as modern science continues it's investigation over time, it will increasingly find that fundamentals of Ayurvedic daily routine are the true fundamentals for prevention of disease and restoration of health. I’m done! Two years in Hill College’s Holistic Wellness Pathway are in the books. I rocked it. And get to add Clinical Herbalist & Holistic Nutrition & Wellness Coach to my bio. 🪄📋 Because it’s been a while, let me do a little Insta-inspired “# of things about me”. 1. I intentionally left it as a # up there in the intro rather than stating a number because I don’t want to commit to completing a certain number or limit myself to fitting whatever I decide to say into a certain number. I’m not sure what that personality trait is… Throw your gentle and loving ideas my way. 2. I’ve learned a ton about biology, evolution, and anatomy in this program. And some of my most worshipful moments over the last 2 years were delighting in God’s creativity and intricacies displayed in nature. 3. We’re in the busiest season of our lives as a fam of 4. School didn’t help. At all. 😁 And in the last few months, just about all of my good habits got swept away. It’s a humble rebuild having lost the care of oneself while learning to guide others. But it’s beautifully grounding and I’m super enjoying the process. 4. We have zero travel plans for the summer. Tell me your weekend get away spots for the FlorGaAlaTn // southeast area. 5. I’m lovingly calling the next few months my Summer Settle. It’s an inward pursuit so the outward busyness becomes an adventure/situation comedy/come back story versus whatever type of story features a frantic nut job feeling more spent at the end of summer than she did navigating full grown adult life within a 1250 hour college program. 🙏🏼 6.
