My collection is (almost) complete! My beautiful, glorious, wonderful edition of Red Seas Under Red Skies arrived recently and I just had to show it off. The foiling on these editions is so out of this world and being one of my all time favourite series I am just OBSESSED with how these TBB editions look! Book 2 in the Gentleman Bastard sequence focuses on a sea fairing tale, of pirate and trickster adventures. Locke is dealing with....a lot this book but don't fret he's as randy as ever 😆😆😆 The edges on this set are imo super cool, each edge correlates to the book so well, and allows for Scott (cough cough) to give us book 4 sometime soon and for TBB to release a matching edition to the sub set as the sub set images don't stack to make one larger image this time. I adore that because I for one hope we see much more of John and Locke in the future!!! This series is 5's across the board for me, my first ever irl D&D character was named after Locke so I'm being actually insufferable with how much I love this set 😆😆😆😆

In un mondo in cui gli elfi sono perseguitati e i mezzi-elfi proprietà del sovrano, Keera è una spettrale, la spia più abile e temuta e quando un’Ombra minaccia il regno del tiranno, Aemon assolderà proprio la sua spada per trovarlo e ucciderlo, ma tra misteri, inganni e segreti le cose andranno diversamente, nuove alleanze verranno strette e molte maschere fatte cadere. Che Keera sia una copia di Celena Sardothien è innegabile, per i fan del Trono di Ghiaccio (non mi interessa l’errore nella traduzione, non mi avrete mai) tutta la prima metà del capitolo ci rimanda inevitabilmente all’assassina più abile di Rifthold, anche se Keera non è assolutamente all’altezza del paragone. Nonostante ciò, nel corso del racconto il suo personaggio evolve, assumendo dei toni grigi che me l’hanno fatta amare. Anche il personaggio maschile non è male, anche se un visto e rivisto. Riven, il tenebroso ragazzo con gli occhi viola, che instaura una strana relazione con la protagonista, fatta di tradimenti, segreti e inganni fino alla fine. Il world building è nuovamente molto similare a quello creato dalla Maas per la sua prima saga, ma in compenso i personaggi secondari si dimostrano estremamente interessanti e ben caratterizzati. #Rezension zu „Auroras End“ von #JayKristoff und #AmieKaufman – dem Abschluss des #AuroraCycle Die Übersetzung findet ihr unter dem Titel „Aurora Erleuchtet“ – etwas weniger dramatisch als der Originaltitel, welcher klingt, als würde er schon Einiges vorwegnehmen. Aber natürlich ist es nicht so simpel wie es klingt und das Lesen lohnt auf jeden Fall. * Was passiert, wenn man einen Haufen Loser und Außenseiter bittet, die Galaxie vor einem uralten, übermächtigen Feind zu retten? Der uralte Feind gewinnt natürlich. Moment mal ... Nicht. So. Schnell. Als wir Tyler Jones und sein Squad 312 das letzte Mal erlebten, arbeiteten sie perfekt zusammen (oder rasteten aus), während eine intergalaktische Schlacht tobte und eine uralte Superwaffe das Universum zu vernichten drohte. Natürlich ging alles total schief. Aber wie sich herausstellt, ist nicht jedes Ende ein Ende, und das Team hat noch eine Chance, sein eigenes umzuschreiben. Vielleicht auch zwei. Es ist kompliziert. Und die Zeit läuft davon. Aber können sie die Galaxie wirklich retten? Dazu bedarf es schon eines Wunders ... * Das Ende von Band 2 war ja super spannend, da fiel es mir sehr leicht direkt mit Teil 3 weiter zu machen. Der erste Teil des Buches ist ziemlich abgedreht und schneidet eine Thematik an, die gerade im Scifi-Bereich beliebt ist, die ich aber selten mag, da man sich dabei echt gut verrennen kann und es dann nicht rund ist. Wenn man hier aber nicht zu viel hinterfragt, ist gerade der Arc um Scar, Fin Zila sehr unterhaltsam und beantwortet so manche offene Frage aus den vorigen Bänden. Die Geschichte um Taylor wirkte dagegen fast etwas langweilig. Natürlich gibt es einen großen Showdown und nein, der Titel verrät noch nicht alles. Ich bin immer noch unsicher, was ich vom Ende halten soll. Es war anders als ich erwartet hatte, einerseits schön aber auch irgendwie etwas kitschig. What causes the stress, is that a couple of young girls have gone missing without any single hint and Jack is requested to consult with the spirits and gather their whereabouts. But such magic has a price. I love the spirit-world magic in this book, which feels more real because using it is causing hardships for its wielder. Bonus points for the map in this book - as there are many regions where the characters are moving, everything makes a lot more sense with a map. This book has vivid descriptions of nature, which I am totally into. Even though "A River Enchanted" will not be a nominee for my favourite fantasy books of all time, I am thrilled to read the second book "A Fire Endless", as the ending of this one remains quite open and puzzling for the main characters. I cannot say that this book perfect and that the main character doesn’t make some irrational decisions, and irritates sometimes. But all in all I really enjoyed the story and the writing. I've come to learn that I particularly enjoy creepy stories where the characters offer some lightheartedness to the narrative, and Opal was the perfect main character to provide comic relief through her dry, snarky humour. There were also plenty of heartfelt moments in the book and I was thoroughly invested throughout! Opal and Arthur had great chemistry and it was a wild journey unravelling the mystery of Starling House. Overall I loved the story and I could definitely see myself rereading it in the future.

I absolutely love brainy main characters and books in academia that just get fully understand everything that comes with being a woman in STEM and Ali’s books are exactly that! As an animal scientist, sometimes I think “hey, I don’t know of any books featuring characters in the agricultural sciences and veterinary medicine. Maybe I should write that!” But then I remember I’m too scatterbrained when I write anything and the plot and characters would be an absolute mess.
