My dear Husband turned 59 today! He has only had the wife I am now since 2018 as the previous life I led was filled with darkness & torment & illness for 48yrs. This is a Tribute to ALL Husbands, Wives, Children, Parents, Friends who have suffered & endured along with you in your journey back to life & health. Even though we were the ones who were descending into Madness from Mental Illness & suffering terribly from Physical Illness......it ripples out like waves in the ocean to those closest to us. Family & friends truly suffer, watching the sickness taking us down, hopelessly searching for a way to help. These Angels in our life need all the love & honor for standing by us, advocating for us, supporting us as we were so very ill & could not get better under Traditional Psychiatric Treatment & Traditional Medical Treatment. They were held captive like we were, unable to find the light out of the suffering we were enduring. They were desperate, exhausted, exasperated & frustrated beyond measure just as we were. As we embarked on our healing by turning away from the Traditional Narrative of Medicalization in our world, we brought our loved ones with us from darkness into the Glorious light of vibrant health & overflowing joy. The deep embedded frown line that used to occupy my Husband's brow is now gone, the tears over whether I would die in my sleep or take my own life are dried up & turned to joy, the awful worry over each time I was hospitalized has given way to relaxation, the burdening stress of being my caretaker who couldn't even lift a piece of firewood into the fireplace has given way to seeing me now as strong & capable of every physical & mental chore I set my mind to. IG blocked the image so reposting 🙃 Friendly reminder that d*pression doesn’t always look like Eeyore. It’s not just sadness. D*pression is not only a side effect of being chronically ill, it can be a symptom. It’s something I struggle with almost daily. When I’m in a d*pressive episode I get a “d*pression pile.” A literal pile of food, spilled drinks, wrappers, meds, heating pads, ice packs, etc. around my bed. Sometimes I don’t even recognize I’m struggling until I’ve pushed people away. D*pression can look like: ▪️ Mood swings ▪️ Agitation, restlessness, irritability ▪️ Not doing routine tasks ▪️ Lack of hygiene ▪️ Feelings of guilt, worthlessness ▪️ Fatigue ▪️ Canceling doc appointments ▪️ Skipping meds ▪️ Difficulty concentrating, making decisions ▪️ Changes in appetite ▪️ Slowing of activity, speech, thinking And yes… ▪️ Feeling tearful ▪️ Overwhelming sadness ▪️ Lonliness, distancing from others ▪️ Having no motivation or interest in things ▪️ Thoughts of harming yourself/talk of not wanting to go on If someone you know seems agitated, distant, down, here’s a few ways you can support them w/o being intrusive: ▪️ Be patient: they may become isolated or have difficulty regulating their mood ▪️ Don’t judge ▪️ Take their thoughts & feelings seriously ▪️ Learn about d*pression ▪️ Let them know you care: This can simply be inviting them to a coffee/lunch break or saying, “I know you have a lot going on, I’m always here if you’d like to talk.” ▪️ Message/card to let them know you’re thinking of them ▪️ Offer to help them research therapists If it’s someone you’re close, deeper intervention is always an option, especially if you’re afraid they may hurt themselves. Ah, the great experimentally removed organ 🤦‍♀️ Look, there are some situations where removing the gallbladder is in the best interest for the patient 🤷‍♀️ But FAR too often, it’s removed as a “maybe” solution to a women’s symptoms that are otherwise unknown 🤨 Unidentified causes of bloating, pain, reflux, IBS, and symptoms after eating? Let’s just blame the gallbladder - Worse, let’s just cut it out because “you don’t need it much anyways” 😲😲😲😲 FALSE, first of all 👉 You do. You need it. I’ll spare the in depth discussion on this but in brief summary- Your liver can compensate a little but you’ll never have the full detox and digestive capabilities that you do with your gallbladder as part of the system. 👇 Your gallbladder is literally step 3 of the 3 step biochemical process of #detoxification and the bile acids that are concentrated and stored there are more potent for supporting the removal of toxins and digestion of dietary fats than the liver does on its own 😉 Good news is that, many times the gallbladder can be saved! I love a few things for gallbladder function, here’s just a few ⭐️ Bitter foods! Arugula, black coffee, ginger, we sweeten too much when the taste of butter is physiologically very important ⭐️ Identify the source of toxins! Are IBS and IBD the same thing? No. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are quite different, although they have many of the same symptoms. In IBS, there aren’t any tests to show why you are experiencing the symptoms you are having. But in IBD, doctors can look at your gut and see signs of inflammation. There are two different conditions in IBD – one is called Crohn’s disease, and the other is called ulcerative colitis. In both cases, there is swelling and irritation in the gut. In IBS, however, things move too quickly or too slowly through your intestines, and that can cause pain in your belly. In both IBS and IBD, people might have stomach pain, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhea, or feel like they have to go more often or right this minute. But in IBD, you might also have blood in your stool, or it looks black. You might lose weight or not feel like eating, have a fever, or feel like your skin and joints are inflamed. We know less about what causes IBS than what causes IBD. IBS is not as serious a condition as IBD. Mostly, the hardest part of living with it is how it affects your quality of life. Anxiety as a function of dis-function deep in the body 😫 *I’ll start this off saying that yes, some elements to anxiety are absolutely external triggers, coping tools, and should be worked through with a knowledgeable professional* 👉 But MOST anxiety that I see clinically is deeply rooted as a SYMPTOM to something else going on 🤔 Let’s break it down simply: The new brain is your conscious mind, this is where you recognize “anxious” feelings but your older brain is more in tune and in control of subconscious happenings in your body from metabolism, to hormones, to registering toxins and more. 👉 The dysfunction of something downstream (below the neck) signals to the old brain that something is off, but your conscious brain doesn’t interpret this as: 🤷‍♀️ Oh that’s my low progesterone! Or that’s just some overgrowth of Klebsiella in my gut, or candida etc 🤪 No- Your conscious brain just knows …. 👀 Something isn’t right!
