BOOK 9 - Good Girl, Bad Blood by @hojay92 ☕️ I obviously had to pick the next book up after Good Girl's Guide to Murder because who doesn't like an overly detailed transcript of conversations as someone investigates a disappearance. Although, because the pattern is the same, I slowed down on this one just a little because the pick up of the plot felt slower in comparison to the first. I picked up Jubilee on Friday night and then binged it all through Saturday. It was such an addictive and fast paced adventure. I’m really enjoying sci-fi at the moment, so if you have any recommendations let me know, especially if they’re by Australian authors. Jubilee is an artificial world existing in a parallel universe. It’s the place people go to let loose, with few laws and plenty of attractions to spend your money on. When Detectives Col and Danee are sent to retrieve a body, it should be a quick mission, but with a delay due to an inebriated coroner and a growing attraction between these two, nothing is going to plan. As political unrest escalates on their home planet of Brouggh due to the rising popularity of the Movement 4 Morality party, these two will need to pull out all the stops in a daring rescue mission while being hunted down by those who want them dead. Jubilee was an action-packed page turner of a book. I loved the chase scenes through space, the futuristic technology and Douglas, the AI leader of Jubilee. There were quite a few tense moments where I had to keep reading to ensure everyone was safe, as well as some laugh out loud scenes which added another layer to the story. Although a science fiction adventure at its heart, there were some cosy mystery and espionage elements which I also really enjoyed. My only negative with the book was the romantic relationships which I found a bit too convenient and unrealistic, but this didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. It’s about 16 year old Charlie and takes place in the summer after secondary school whilst he is waiting for his exam results and trying to decide what to do with his future. He meets Fran and ends up joining a Shakespeare drama group in order to spend time with her. It’s a story of first love with all the magic and heartache that comes with it. This exceeded my expectations and I completely fell in love with Charlie and Fran. Nicholls is a beautiful writer and expertly captures the feelings and complexities around of coming of age. MAY WRAP UP 🫶🏼 Happy June 1st! This is what my May looked like👇🏻 Overall May was pretty chill but it was also one of the hardest months I’ve had mentally in a while, but there was definitely good things sprinkled throughout 🫶🏼 •my full magnolia parks collection came in and I just love them so much. I can’t stop staring at them. I also finished the last book this month and it was my favorite read out of the 5 books I read this month. I loved it so much😭 •Little guy has started to want to hold hands all the time — during nap time, while we watch tv, while we go on walks, etc. It’s so so cute and precious. •I was feeling really strong in my fitness at the beginning of the month! But I’ve since eased off weightlifting and heavy cardio and traded it for mobility, Pilates and walking for a bit to try to see if it will help my insomnia. •Lots of beautiful (and chilly) walks outside! •I received a package from @read_with_charlotte that truly brightened my whole month! The Curious Secrets of Yesterday by Namrata Patel, despite being a Desi read, left me with mixed feelings. The story follows Tulsi, who is expected to become a spice healer and take over the family spice shop. The rich cultural backdrop and the hint of a family curse were intriguing, but I felt let down when the ‘curse’ turned out to be a family lie. The plot often felt scattered, trying to juggle too many subplots – from Tulsi’s personal struggles to family dynamics, social media drama, and romance. It was a lot to take in, and not everything got the attention it deserved. The romantic subplot between Tulsi and Lucas, her shop neighbor, was rushed and underdeveloped. Their interactions were mostly heavy, focusing on family issues, and lacked the light-hearted moments needed to build a believable connection. Tulsi’s character seemed to gain confidence only after being reassured by Lucas, which diminished her personal growth for me. The family dynamics were both a strength and a weakness. Patel portrayed the complexities of familial expectations and tradition well, but the toxic nature of Tulsi’s family made it hard to empathize with them. Devi, her mother, was overly dramatic, and Aruna, her grandmother, was controlling. Tulsi was often left to mediate, which became repetitive and exhausting. One redeeming quality was the exploration of Indian culture and Ayurvedic traditions. I found the Ayurveda aspect enlightening. Patel captured the essence of feeling caught between two cultures perfectly, a sentiment many first-generation immigrants might relate to. By the end of the book, I felt relieved that Tulsi pursued her own path, but disappointed that it took so much external validation for her to get there. The book tried to tackle too many issues, which diluted its overall impact. In summary, The Curious Secrets of Yesterday had a lot of potential but struggled under the weight of its many subplots. While it didn’t completely hit the mark for me, there are aspects that I enjoyed, and you might find more connection to it than I did. I would recommend this as a one-time read. Ich bin gerade am Flughafen auf dem Weg in den Urlaub und habe mir das Hörbuch des zweiten Bandes der Maxton Hall-Reihe, „Save You“, auf die Ohren gepackt. Wer von euch ist auch schon von dieser Reihe verzaubert? Ich weiß, dass viele von euch schon lange Fans dieser Reihe sind. Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass mich die Netflix-Serie so in ihren Bann ziehen könnte, aber genau das ist passiert! Nachdem ich die erste Staffel regelrecht verschlungen habe, musste ich unbedingt wissen, wie es weitergeht. Leider ist der zweite Teil als Taschenbuch überall ausverkauft, also habe ich mich für das Hörbuch entschieden. Ein Glück, denn so kann ich die spannende Geschichte auch unterwegs genießen. Den dritten Teil werde ich auf jeden Fall wieder als Buch lesen! Wie sieht es bei euch aus? Seit ihr spätestens seit der Serie auch dem Charme von Maxton Hall verfallen? 🤍

Don't let me fall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book gave me major Icebreaker vibes, which is a good thing because I loved that book too! I was very engaged the whole way through and didn't want to put it down. I've ordered the second book in the series, so I'm looking forward to starting that. This book follows Ashlyn and Colt. Ashlyn's boyfriend Logan is cheating on her and when his childhood best friend Colt rolls into town and realises what he's doing, well let's just say he's less than pleased about it. Colt is just dreamy and I loved most of the other characters too. Logan can eat sh*t though! And Theo.. he has some work to do to get into my good books, letting Logan treat Ash the way he was. Broken Souls ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book is part of a series of interconnected stand alones, which I didn't realise at first. ("Book Three" on the front probably should have made me aware 😅) I feel like I would have understood the other characters better if I'd had read the earlier books of the series as they were mentioned a lot like you should know their past. I liked the MCs and it was a cute engaging story but the end seemed very rushed with lots of information. And I was very confused when a random third persons pov appeared near the end of the book that left unanswered questions. ✨Book Review✨ This was a quick read that I thought was perfect as an in between book. The first few chapters moved a little slower than my usual reads but once the action started to pick up things moved along quite nicely. I loved the back and forth between the characters, and I thought that Alicia’s perseverance was impressive considering how things seemed to be working against her at each turn and how cold some of her future in-laws can be. The way she’s made to feel like an outsider by everyone was heartbreaking but yet she never let it get to her. I realized I hadn't posted a picture of my April reading journal cover spread! 🙃 Better late than never I guess! 😂 April was a really great reading month. I gave almost all of these books 4-5 stars and one of them I still haven't rated yet. In these books, I traveled all over the world: France, Russia, Syria, China, India, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and back to the United States. Of course Les Mis was a re-read and many of you already know how much I LOVE this book. This was my third time reading it and we had such a lovely group of us reading it together. Let me just highlight a few of the other reads. If you are looking for some fantastic historical fantasy reads, I highly recommend The Golem and the Jinni Duology as well as The Winternight Trilogy. I actually read the first two books in The Winternight Trilogy towards the end of March and read the third book, The Winter of the Witch, in April. I'm not a big fantasy reader, but these books made me want to read more! So please do share any fantasy book recommendations! If you want to learn more about Harper Lee and her sister, Alice, then definitely pick up The Mockingbird Next Door. I listened to this memoir on audiobook and really appreciated getting to know the author of the iconic To Kill a Mockingbird and her sister. Finally, The Heart of Darkness by Conrad took some delving into some extra study materials to help with not only a bit of confusion in the story but also in trying to understand what Conrad was attempting to do with this novel. I had conflicting feelings about this one as I read it. It's taken me awhile to think about the book and to figure out what kind of star rating I would give it. Hopefully I'll get more caught up on book review writing soon and it won't take forever before I get reviews up for some of these books I read in April. 🙈 In the meantime, it's already time to start working on making all my reading journal spreads for my May reads. Whew...time sure does fly by, doesn't it? Happy reading friends and may you have a relaxing, peaceful weekend!

🍇Book Review🍇 Today it’s my stop on the blog tour for Escape To The Tuscan Vineyard by @carriewalkerauthor Abi isn’t looking for a serious relationship. That is until she is on holiday in Tuscany and she meets Tony. Is it time for Abi to review her stance on dating and relationships? Having enjoyed Escape To The Swiss Chalet, I couldn’t wait to read the author’s next book to find out where I would be visiting next and I wasn’t disappointed. Tuscany was the perfect location. The more I read the more I wished I was in Tuscany. I really liked how descriptive the writing was because at times I felt like I was in Tuscany with Abi seeing everything that she was seeing. The storyline was brilliant and an easy read. Abi was an interesting character. She’s a talented makeup artist and I would describe her as confident. She likes routine, knowing what she is doing every day and likes to plan ahead. But her routine goes a little astray when her latest make up role comes to an abrupt end and she decides on an impromptu trip to Tuscany. Abi tries to plan every element of the trip including sightseeing but her itinerary doesn’t always go as planned. Eventually Abi starts to learn that not every aspect of her life can be planned. She starts to relax, unwind and go with the flow. When it comes to love and relationships Abi is very cautious and I can understand why when the reason is revealed. She has flings and fleeting moments with men but doesn’t look for a long term future with them. That is until she meets Tony. Initially she sees Tony as a holiday fling but when she realises that he’s actually staying in the room opposite to her she knows she won’t be able to stay away from him. They start to spend time together, getting to know each other and that’s when Abi starts to reassess what she wants in life. She finally starts to lower the wall that she has built around herself to protect her heart and starts to let love in. As for Tony, he sounded like a dreamboat. There was definitely something between Abi and Tony from the outset and I loved following their journey of getting to know each other and building a connection. The perfect summer read. ⬇️
How lucky was I to be on this tour?! A fantastic story, shrouded in mystery, drama and intrigue! The writing was magical and I LOVED Juliet and the journey she goes on. All characters were developed well and I felt totally immersed in the atmosphere of the theatre district. In this coming of age novel, we primarily follow Jude from his teens to adulthood as he experiences real happiness, painful heartbreaks, true love, more heartbreak, and hope. I’ve been anticipating to read this book since seeing it around bookstagram awhile back, and it did not disappoint. This book is an emotional ride. It’s heartbreakingly raw, brutal at times even, but also beautiful. It’s a story of hope, of soul mates and how one can never truly move on from the one you’re meant to be with. There’s so much to Caspien. He’s a master at putting Jude through it and making his life difficult. You’ll feel all sorts of emotions towards him throughout the book. You may even end up putting the book down and silently scream for how he acts towards Jude…just saying. But trust the process when it comes to him. He’ll become one of your favorites, I promise. As for Jude, that man deserves the world’s biggest hug for all that he’s endured. He’a truly someone special. I absolutely loved his POV throughout the book. Loved watching him grow through relationships, schooling, and adulthood. His love for Caspien is pure poetry. HIGHLY recommend giving this book a try. It’s a unique romance that’ll give you a ride, but so worth it in the end. Scarlett wrote these characters so perfectly. I devoured this book. Even though it’s over 500 pages, I didn’t want it to end. Reseña Verity Estoy en shock con este libro, que locura. Si cuando escuchaba solo opiniones buenas era por algo. No se por donde empezar la verdad, lo leí en un día, no podía parar leer. Me acosté tarde y desperté temprano solo para leerlo. Al principio me tenía algunas partes que me recordaba a el libro de La Asistenta, las puertas, los pestillos, un matrimonio, una intrusa en casa…. No pude no comparar las historias. Aun así son diferentes y los dos me gustaron mucho. Pero este creo que se lleva el puesto numero uno. Me cuesta mucho hacer reseñas sin meter spoilers todo el tiempo. Eses giros que tiene que piensas en un culpable, te lo cambian, te imaginas otro, y el final es completamente lo contrario a lo que pensaste en todo momento. Una escritora sin exito es elegida para seguir la saga de una escritora de fama que está encamada. Para meterle en su vida y poder seguir la saga de la escritora se muda a su casa para leer todos sus escritos. Una vez allí pasan cosas y descubre cosas que lo cambiaran todo. Tiene parte de thriller y de romance, es una novela muy completa y intrigante. Me alegro de haberla leido. Ultimamente los thrillers que leo son todos de final de los que te explota la cabeza.
