Vengeance by Erin Coal ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really enjoyed this read! It’s the second book in the night Coveny and picks up right where the first left off. It was a fast pace that kept me engaged from beginning to end. The characters were great, and I’d like to grow growth that James has in this one. If you’d like dark romance, magic, and PNR reads, I think you will like this. Blurb: Time to pay the price… Alicia’s mum is missing, and she suspects dark magic may be involved. The same dark magic that is gently luring her in with lavish promises of power and trying to change her forever. When everything starts falling down around her, and the truth behind all the mysteries is revealed, she has to decide who she can trust: her new husband? Her old family? Her new family? Herself? Don’t be mistaken; there will be vengeance. #verseventuresbooktours #verseventurestours  #arcreader #booktour #darkromance #romancereaders #romancerecs  #indieauthor #bookstagram #booktour #witchyromance #bookrec #bookfeature #bookreview  #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookaddict #bookcommunity #bookinstagram #currentlyreading #instareads #lovebooks #readingislife #readingnook #weekendreads

📚Dead Girls Can’t Smile📚 Thank you @nicholehtheauthor and @verseventurestours for the copy of this book to read and review! 💭This was a pretty solid YA mystery thriller. I was kept guessing the entire time, which usually is not the case. I’m pretty quick to figure most mysteries out, but this time I kept changing my mind! 😂 The story was told in multiple POVs and across dual timelines, which I really enjoy. There are some heavy topics that the author tackles throughout the story like child grooming so definitely check the trigger warnings before reading! Blurb: Four angry exes. A masked stalker. A missing sister. When summer begins, sixteen-year-old Rose Blackwood’s life takes a chilling turn. Enigmatic notes appear, and a figure in a black hoodie and mask stalks her every move. The one-year anniversary of her sister Lily’s disappearance only intensifies Rose’s torment. Rose holds a dark secret about that fateful night, a secret known to no one except her best friend Spencer—and her stalker. As Rose races to unmask her tormentor, the line between friend and foe blurs. With the clock ticking, she must depend on Spencer, the one person she can trust. In this pulse-pounding young adult thriller, secrets and lies collide, forcing Rose to confront her darkest fears. Can she uncover the truth behind her sister’s disappearance and stop the relentless pursuit of her past? Or will she become the next victim in a deadly game of secrets and obsession? 📣QOTD: Read any good mysteries lately? Please share! If not what are you currently reading? I’m hoping to finish Stuart Turton’s newest book - The Last Murder at the End of the World - for bookclub. #verseventuresbooktours #verseventurestours #arcreader #booktour #thrillerrecs #thrillerreads #yathriller #indieauthor #booktour #yarec #bookaddict #bookbloggersofintagram #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksbooksbooks #readmorebooks #librarian #librariansofinstagram #booklover #booknerd #readingchallenges #readinggoals #ilovebooks #booksarelife #someonepaymetoreadallday #bookreviews #bookrecommendations #bookrec

🌟Book Feature 🌟 Blurb: Sarah Cart’s On My Way Back to You is a first-hand account of the rollercoaster world of lifesaving transplants and the unimaginable challenges Sarah faced as she struggled to manage her husband’s devastating illness and to save his life, their marriage, and her own sanity. Throughout her 42-year marriage, writer Sarah Cart has enjoyed a life of “gloriously controlled chaos,” as she and her husband, Ben, a successful entrepreneur and seasoned outdoorsman, embarked on numerous adventures with their four active sons. Then the unthinkable happened. In suspenseful and heartrending detail, Cart shares how Ben developed an incurable autoimmune condition that was manageable and under control one minute and threatened to kill him the next, landing him in the ICU as the Covid pandemic closed the world down. Thrust into the role of nurse and caregiver, Sarah joined the ranks of 39 million Americans who champion and care for an ailing loved one. In addition to confronting doubts, fears, and endless setbacks, aggravations, and red tape, she also had to consent to daunting procedures on Ben’s behalf. Too, there were the months-long Covid-era restrictions on hospital visitations and the post-surgery snafus with home healthcare personnel. Thank goodness for the heartfelt communiques with family and friends, all of which reflect the faith, fortitude, grit, and grace that sustained her. While readers will identify with Sarah’s anxieties and be moved by hers and Ben’s strength, they will also learn the questions to ask, the notes to take, the signs to never overlook, and the self-care necessary should they ever find themselves in her shoes. On My Way Back to You is a profoundly inspirational account of one couple’s medical odyssey and the patience, determination, and love that ultimately helped them find their way back to one another. #verseventuresbooktours #verseventurestours #arcreader #booktour #nonfiction #healthandwellness #chronicillness #indieauthor #bookstagram #booktour #nonfictionrec #readwithoshi

Sacrifice by Erin Coal ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book is an arranged marriage, slow, burn, enemies to lovers paranormal romance. The main characters Alicia and James were great. The character development was good and I really enjoyed seeing the growth of both of them throughout the story. I would have liked more about the coven. The ending did feel a bit rushed and it ended on a cliffhanger and I have to know what happens. I’m curious to see what the next book holds. 📚Sacrifice by Erin Coal📚 Thank you @verseventurestours and @erincoalauthor for adding me to the tour for this fun witchy duology! Vengeance review coming soon! Blurb: Using magic always comes with a price to pay… All alone in a new place, Alicia was sent away by her own coven for an arranged marriage, although she had no clue what she would be walking into. Alicia suspects her soon-to-be husband and his coven are practicing dark magic. But it gets worse. He’s an arrogant arsehole that can’t stand to be in the same room with her, yet he stirs all these unfamiliar feelings from within her, and she can’t help but be drawn to him. Surrounded by darkness and with no one who will answer her questions, Alicia needs to make the biggest decision of her life before it’s too late… My thoughts: I really enjoyed being transported into a new world of magic as these types of books are currently my top obsession! 😂 While I don’t love arranged marriage tropes as it kills the feminist in me I do like getting that tension from a relationship that isn’t exactly wanted by the MCs. Just wish the FMC wasn’t treated so terribly. I’m hoping for some more great character development and to see how things pan out in book 2!! 📣QOTD: If you had to just pick one preference do you choose stand-alone, duology or series?? I usually go for longer series but there are a few duologies that I’m obsessed with! *cough* strange the dreamer *cough* #verseventuresbooktours #verseventurestours #arcreader #booktour #darkromance #romancereaders #romancerecs #indieauthor #bookstagram #booktour #witchyromance #bookrec #bookfeature #bookreview #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookaddict #bookcommunity #bookinstagram #currentlyreading #instareads #lovebooks #readingislife #readingnook #weekendreads

Using magic always comes with a price to pay… Leaving her own coven behind to marry a man she never met, Alicia is thrust into a family and coven that seem to keep quite a lot of secrets. Most family members aren’t exactly welcoming of Alicia, but her future husband James is just the worst. He insults her every chance he gets and treats her like an infectious disease. He is hot one minute, ice cold the next. Seriously, what a dick. I kind of felt like punching him in his stupid pretty face. There is a lot of chemistry between the two though, making James’ behaviour even more aggravating. Then there is Will, James’ cousin, who is kind and caring. Quite the opposite of James really. Because unlike James, Will actually does show interest in Alicia. He warns her that James and his family practice dark magic and offers her an out by asking her to marry him instead of James. But with more questions on her mind then answers, this has Alicia feeling really confused and even more alone then she already did. She will have to make a choice, but how can she do that when there is so much mystery surrounding her future family? I really enjoyed this book, there is a lot of mystery to it which had me questioning everything. I didn’t trust any of the characters, not even kind-hearted Will. The chemistry between characters was great, and there were many surprise twists along the way. We are left with quite a cliffhanger, and even more unanswered questions. It sure has me curious about the next book in this duet. 📚 Dead Girls Can’t Smile ✍️ @nicholehtheauthor This is a really good YA thriller. It is fast paced, there’s a lot of action, it’s easy to read, and it will keep you guessing. It was hard to know who to trust and who to not trust, which was a great aspect of the book. I especially enjoyed the alternating chapters where one was in the present, and one was in the past but with a timeline that was being brought into the present so that they intertwined together. There are some heavy topics in this one, so do read the trigger warnings that the author has listed in the beginning of the book. There is predatory behavior by an adult, and it is uneasy to read about at times, though the author didn’t put anything too graphic in the book. However, you could just imagine it. There is a touch of romance, but it’s high school kids so it doesn’t really feel like romance. At least, I didn’t feel any undying love and connection between the characters. I will say this – while the ending was good, I wanted just a bit more. I wanted to know what was going to happen between Rose and another one of the characters. I wanted to see more into the future for certain characters (I can’t say anything more because I don’t want to give anything away). Overall, a good YA thriller and a must read for anyone that likes these types of books! Many thanks to @verseventurestours for the #gifted copy of this book!! 🅱🅾🅞🅺 ⓉⓄⓊⓇ 🆁🅴Ⓥ🅸🄴🆆 A year ago, Rose’s sister Lily went missing and she’s doing her best to move forward and just enjoy the Summer with her best friend Spencer. But she’s been living with a secret about that night and when disturbing letters begin arriving, she realizes someone else knows her secret too. She starts bumping into jilted exes and is being followed by a masked stalker, begging the question who is behind the letters and what part might they have in Lily’s disappearance? Told in multiple POV and dual timelines, this fast paced YA thriller keeps you guessing at every turn. Rose doesn’t know who she can trust as she dives deeper into discovering the truth and finds herself in danger. The character dynamics are well written, bringing betrayal into the forefront. The tension is palpable throughout and the overall creepy vibe is top notch. Heydenburg also handles heavy topics such as child grooming with great sensitivity, and I applaud her for such a compelling story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you @verseventurestours and @nicholehtheauthor for the ARC. #verseventuresbooktours #verseventurestours #arcreader #booktour #thrillerrecs #thrillerreads #yathriller #indieauthor #bookstagram #booktour #yarec #bookrec #bookfeature #bookreview #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookaddict #bookcommunity #bookinstagram #currentlyreading #instareads #lovebooks #readingislife #readingnook #weekendreads

(っ◔◡◔)っ🫥💗𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨 💗🫥 “Dead Girls Can't Smile” by Nichole Heydenburg ⭐⭐⭐ ✨ Characters: Rose and Lily are compelling leads, especially with their dual POVs. The kidnapper is believably creepy, adding depth to the mystery. 🎭 Theme: Secrets, lies, and the thin line between friend and foe. Loved the exploration of trust and betrayal. 🕵️‍♀️ Plot: A thrilling ride with twists and turns. The stalker element and Rose’s secret keep you hooked till the end. 👍 What I liked: The creepy tone and atmosphere. Dual POVs of Rose and Lily were executed well. The suspense is palpable! 👎 What I didn’t like: Needed more dialogue tags; got confused about who was speaking sometimes. Rose didn’t seem upset enough about Lily’s disappearance. More setting descriptions would have been great. Overall, a great mystery and thriller! 🌟 #BookReview #Mystery #Thriller #DeadGirlsCantSmile #NicholeHeydenburg Thank you @nicholehtheauthor for the eBook and my honest review. Today I’m teaming up with @verseventurestours to feature Curing Death, a medical sci-fi thriller all about beating death. Mark Rosenberg has created a page-turner with the question of “how can we live forever” front and center. Blurb: Dr. Mike Royce has a problem. His patients keep dying. His skills as an ER doctor are unmatched, but he can’t save them all. With every death, his sense of failure grows. With the help of a brilliant nurse—once his patient, now his trusted colleague and sometime lover—Royce embarks on a controversial research project to challenge the inevitability of death. When Royce and his team discover a never-before observed energy in the body, they believe they’ve stumbled upon the soul itself. And they make a tantalizing connection between the egress of this soul energy and imminent, certain death. To forestall death and change the trajectory of human life, Royce must find a way to stop that soul-energy from leaving the body, before his own mysteriously erratic, increasingly unstable mind betrays him. “Curing Death is the ultimate page-turner because it demands of the reader that they experience the ultimate fantasy: How can we live forever? “Not only did the story move at a breathless pace, the complex love affair between Dr. Royce and Nurse Simmons was a wonderful surprise. All in the backdrop of the continual traumas of a hospital emergency room headed by the unstoppable Dr. Mike Royce – you can’t put it down.” #bookfeature #booktrib #verseventuresbooktours #scifi #thriller #medicalthriller #thrillerrecs #medicalscifi #curingdeath

💵 𝑩𝑶𝑶𝑲 𝑻𝑶𝑼𝑹 𝑹𝑬𝑽𝑰𝑬𝑾 💵 Carmella is on the run from police and finds herself desperate for cash. When she encounters Luke Reeves at what she thinks is an unoccupied used furniture store, he gives her an opportunity to get off the street, but what she’ll have to do in return might make some women take their chance with the law. Luke is pure sleaze, a bit unhinged, having made more than a few questionable business decisions, and gives off some pretty pervy vibes. But he also has empathy for Carmella which leads to a non traditional romance, to say the least. Carmella is a bit lost, which at 19 isn’t completely off base, and there are moments when it’s obvious she has no choice but to give in to him. The story is heavy on the dub-con so keep that in mind. The characters are deeply flawed (which I appreciate) and their pasts make it impossible to have a completely honest relationship. And while Luke isn’t your typical book boyfriend material, he’s easy to fall for when you see his softer side. It’s a very dark and spicy mafia romance with a different and unique vibe. 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒔𝒉 𝑫𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒚 hits the ground running, no slow burn here, and doesn’t let up until the cliffhanger that leaves your mouth wide open! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you @verseventurestours and @jennitaylabooks for the ARC. #verseventuresbooktours #verseventurestours #arcreader #booktour #darkromance #romancereaders #romancerecs #indieauthor #bookstagram #booktour #yarec #bookrec #bookfeature #bookreview #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookaddict #bookcommunity #bookinstagram #currentlyreading #instareads #lovebooks #readingislife #readingnook #weekendreads

Abandoned at birth - Janet Sherlund Publisher: Worth Publications Year of publication: 2024 Page number: 256 Most people have wondered from time to time about their heritage. In most cases, that’s easily solved: ask a parent, like you do with so many things of everyday life. If not a parent, then a grandparent, or an aunt or uncle…An older family member usually keeps the memory alive on the family heritage.  For some people though, it’s more complicated than that. People who have been adopted, find themselves facing a knowledge gap in their lives that they cannot fulfill. And while the process of adoption is something admirable, not all cases end up leading a happy life.  Janet Sherlund gives us her own experience of life as an adopted child. She describes without holding back, both the good and the bad things she faced in her new family, and she gives a both heartwarming and heartbreaking account of her attempts to find her roots and get to meet her biological family, the obstacles she faced along the way and all the beautiful moments that she experienced as members of her biological family truly embraced her.  It’s a beautiful memoir, as hard and as beautiful as one could expect. Thank you @verseventurestours and @janetsherlundofficial for allowing me to read it!  🔖 #books #bookstagram #greekbookstagram #instabook #instaread #ig_books #ig_reads #bookdragon #booknerdsandfriends #bibliofagos #arcreader #verseventuresbooktours #a_thousand_books_unread

🌾 𝓑𝓸𝓸𝓴 𝓕𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓾𝓻𝓮 🌾 Abandoned at Birth by Janet Sherlund 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐛⤵️ In Abandoned at Birth, Janet Sherlund explores the inherent need adopted children have for a sense of belonging and the pain and courage that is required to discover their true identity.Adoption is often painted as a happy, inspirational act—a baby finds a family and lives happily ever after. But the truth is that adopted children experience displacement and rupture from their mother and that trauma can impact an individual for a lifetime. Adoption can lead to feelings of loss and grief not just for the adoptee, but for the biological and adoptive parents as well. This startling fact comes vividly to life in Janet Sherlund’s heartbreaking memoir, Abandoned at Birth. In her literary debut, Janet Sherlund explores the complex issues so many adoptees and their parents grapple with, including the complicated emotions of rejection, loss, grief, denial, and shame.Sherlund, who was given up for adoption within days of her birth, shares her journey to fulfill her lifetime longing for connection with her family of origin, her instinctive ache for connection with her birth mother, and what it was like to have a “borrowed identity.” In poignant detail, Sherlund describes her quest to find out who she is, where she came from, and why she was given away. And she reveals the pain and courage required to discover one’s true identity. With 5 million adoptees in the U.S., many of whom are discovering their biological roots on DNA websites, Abandoned at Birth is the book for our time. The insight Sherlund derived from her journey will encourage and console others on the same path, while examining the inherent need of all of us to belong, and understand our origins, our culture, and our genetic roots. @verseventurestours @booktrib @janetsherlundofficial

Abandoned at Birth, by @janetsherlundofficial explores the inherent need adopted children have for a sense of belonging and the pain and courage that is required to discover their true identity. Adoption is often painted as a happy, inspirational act—a baby finds a family and lives happily ever after. The insight Sherlund derived from her journey will encourage and console others on the same path, while examining the inherent need of all of us to belong, and understand our origins, our culture, and our genetic roots. I read a lot of adoption memoirs, but one thing that really stood out to me in this one was the exploration into the impact adoption has on the adopted child and how this shapes their identity. Since Janet was adopted and grew up at a time where mental health was not discussed and theory around adoption and attachment was limited. Janet's self reflection and ability to be vulnerable and tell even the most difficult parts of her story can almost act as a case study for social workers and adoptive parents or other adoption stakeholders. I also really appreciated the discussion around the secrecy of adoption and why that is detrimental to everyone involved. In the past, this secrecy was of utmost importance, but even today there is a lot of secrecy around adoption, something that I think needs to be reconsidered. #verseventuresbooktours #verseventurestours #arcreader #booktour #nonfiction #memoirreads #adoptionstories #indieauthor #bookstagram #booktour #yarec #bookrec #bookfeature #bookreview #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookaddict #bookcommunity #bookinstagram #currentlyreading #instareads #lovebooks #readingislife #readingnook #weekendreads

Wow. I was not expecting to fly through this book the way I did, it was so good! It caught my interest pretty immediately and it was just nonstop from there. While I did have a little trouble keeping the bad guys straight, it didn't really impact my enjoyment of the story and the main couple just had my heart from the very beginning. And that one scene in the VIP room....whoa. The end really caught me surprise and maybe I should have saw it coming, but I didn't. Once the dominoes started to fall, I literally could not turn pages fast enough, lol. I definitely have conflicted feelings about the way things turn out, but sometimes it's nice for everything to not be so black and white... . . . Lucy Lenin is broke, her abusive husband is missing, and the gangsters he owed want to take it out on the demure Lucy. When she's offered a job at a strip club, Lucy takes the job for fast money and to get the mafia off her back, even finding a way to tolerate her regular client, Sheriff Aaron Dwyer, who happens to be her old boyfriend. @mamacartsac’s On My Way Back to You is a first-hand account of the rollercoaster world of lifesaving transplants and the unimaginable challenges Sarah faced as she struggled to manage her husband’s devastating illness and to save his life, their marriage, and her own sanity. In suspenseful and heartrending detail, Sarah shares how her husband Ben developed an incurable autoimmune condition that was manageable and under control one minute and threatened to kill him the next, landing him in the ICU as the Covid pandemic closed the world down. Thrust into the role of nurse and caregiver, Sarah joined the ranks of 39 million Americans who champion and care for an ailing loved one. The difficulties Sarah faced as both a caregiver and an advocate will be relatable for anyone who has acted in this role for a family member. Of course, the pandemic made this even more frustrating at times, as the healthcare system was overwhelmed so her ability to communicate with her husband and his medical team was even more difficult. I also really appreciated that she detailed the challenges she faced with home health care. The people who work in home care are some of the most underpaid and overworked health care employees, with an extremely difficult job that has high turnover and high demand. These, added to other confounding issues such as working freelance or having limited supervision can lead to patients and their families experiencing neglect or even malpractice. This can leave families hanging in the balance with limited support from the hospital team they relied on and not yet ready to care for their loved one without help. Sarah's real and heartbreaking account of her caregiving journey gives readers a glance into this difficult role and can help remind you that even the toughest challenges can be faced with determination and love. Thanks to @verseventurestours for organizing another great book tour and giving me the chance to read and review this book! #verseventuresbooktours #verseventurestours #arcreader #booktour #nonfiction #healthandwellness #chronicillness #indieauthor #bookstagram #booktour #nonfictionrec #bookrec #bookfeature #bookreview

Hit with a twist. I enjoyed reading about the humans, demons, angels, the fallen, and vampires. Everything I love in a story. You will be sucked into a world of betrayal, death, love and passion. Which characters will suck you in and which will pull at your heartstrings. I will say that at first I knew who I liked and who I didn’t. But did that change or stay the same. I just finished Homecoming Chaos by D.W. Brooks. I will be honest, when I committed to reading and reviewing this book, I expected a zany Christmas story where parents and siblings fall in to their old roles and hilarity ensues. And there was some of that, Jamie returned after breaking her engagement and running away to Africa. Her parents (her mother in particular) was not too happy and was not yet ready to let the past stay in the past. This part felt familiar. But adding in a murder mystery was the first surprise. The other surprise for me was about how the book made me think about how we evolve as people and sometimes the people who love us most and who we love as well, have the hardest time seeing that. This element rang very true to me. The main character in the book, Jamie, has a mantra she uses - "Lean in to the chaos" - a hard thing to do sometimes, but a lesson we could all use to help us live life and enjoy it that much more. An enjoyable read. #verseventuresbooktours #verseventurestours #arcreader #booktour #romancereader #romanticsuspense #dwbrooks #indieauthor #bookstagram #booktour #darkromance #bookrec #bookfeature #bookreview #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookaddict #bookcommunity #bookinstagram #currentlyreading #instareads #lovebooks #readingislife #readingnook #weekendreads

MY THOUGHTS: Although there was a lot going on, and a lot of characters to keep track, things came together cohesively and I felt like the loose ends were tied up. Jamie as a character developed throughout the novel, and her relationship histories were explained and the relationships grew and changed. There was lots of action, many twists and turns, and some romance sprinkled in. The mystery was engaging and the characters’ motivations and actions seemed on brand for them. I’m joining @Verseventurestours to spotlight One Weekend in Iceland by Cate Lane! Releasing April 26th, you’re going to want to spend the weekend with this read- check out the blurb below Have you ever wondered what would happen if you accidentally picked up the wrong bag from the carousel at the airport? I hadn’t. Until now. It’s all my own stupid fault. I was rushing home to Reykjavik, to be by my mother’s hospital bedside, although a quick glance at her smiling face where she’s propped up on a pile of pillows, seems to indicate there was no need for urgency. A wave of relief washes over me and finally, I can think clearly. I need to get my bag back. So, I arrange to meet Rory Campbell, the grumpy man with the deep delicious sounding Scottish accent, who has my bag. What I never anticipated was how my little mix up would end … One amazing weekend in Iceland. The question now is … could it be something more? #verseventurestours #verseventuresbooktours #bookfeature #catelanebooks #booktours #bookrecs #breysbooktours #bookcover #bookinstagram #bookish #bookishlove🧡 #booklife

Homecoming Chaos by DW Brooks ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Blurb in comments Jamie Scott is returned home afterliving abroad. She finds an employee dead at the family business and works to find the killer. She meets Nick, the detective on the case, who doesn’t want her involved but they keep getting thrown together. This was a fast paced read that had me turning the pages. The characters were well developed, and I really enjoyed them. I’m hoping some will continue on in the next book in the series. It had just the right mix of suspense, romance, and family drama. If you’re looking for a new suspense novel with little romance, you should pick this up. #verseventuresbooktours #verseventurestours  #arcreader #booktour #romancereader #romanticsuspense #dwbrooks  #indieauthor #bookstagram #booktour #darkromance #bookrec #bookfeature #bookreview  #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookaddict #bookcommunity #bookinstagram #currentlyreading #instareads #lovebooks #readingislife #readingnook #weekendreads
