Book Review📚| The Collected Regrets of Clover 🌷🧡 by Mikki Brammer Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (swipe for synopsis) “Don’t let the best parts of life pass you by because you’re too scared of the unknown.” I’ve read 23 books so far this year, and this has been my favorite…🫶🏻✨ The Collected Regrets of Clover is a beautiful and poignant story that is full of wisdom and so much heart. It packs a pretty emotional punch, but the tears leave you breathing new air and seeing through new eyes. This story makes you take a closer look at the way you live, and helps you realize that the biggest risk you could possibly take in life, is not taking any risks at all. Clover is a character that felt relatable from the very first page, I adored her so much. I thought her job as a death doula gave this book a unique perspective; I loved the way it played into her persona and the overall plot. The flashbacks detailing her childhood with her grandfather, and their shared love for reading, mixed in with her grief over what she’d lost, captivated me from the start. I know I’ve mentioned this in the past, but books with a heavy theme on grief always weave their way into my heart. Although grief comes in many shapes and forms, it’s a universal experience, and it always allows me to connect more to characters. Apart from grief, the book also has themes of forgiveness, death, found family, love, etc. Pretty much everything I love about books is infused into this one. 🥺 💭Q: What is one of your favorite themes in books?

🆆🅰🆁🅽🅸🅽🅶: discussion of death 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 by Mikki Brammer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5) 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧(5) Genre: contemporary literature Format: Audio via Libby (Jennifer Pickens) Published: May 9, 2023 by St. Martin’s Press Soundtrack: Risk by Gracie Abrams I clearly remember the first patient I ever “lost.” A naive 3rd-year medical, I entered the hospital one morning to find my favorite patient had died overnight. I was devasted not by her loss but rather that after days of spending extra time in her room, she had died alone. The feeling of witnessing a soul leaving remains a constant even without a monitor, or the sights or smell of death to notify me of a loss. While being a physician has made me comfortable around death, and the inevitability of it; I have witnessed denial, profound grief, and radical acceptance of both my patients and their loved ones. In the Collected Regrets we find an alternative to the cold approach we often take toward death. I connected with Clover almost instantly. Her gift: providing comfort at the end of life and bearing witness to the final moments. Brammer so clearly captures the range of emotions I have seen around death, from rage to sorrow over the loss of life’s simple pleasures. Brammer’s writing is beautiful allowing me to picture Clover and each of the people she ushered through dying. Clover is flawed and living a life full of fear while simultaneously trying to alleviate others’ fear of death. The contrast is inspiring, and her character development drove my love of this book. Picken’s narration added to the heaviness of this book and provided hope as Clover’s character began to experience the world with a renewed perspective. Her voice added to my enjoyment and truly allowed the listener to get into the head of Clover. I am not sure this would be a five-star read for everyone, but I think it is a must-read for anyone uncomfortable with death. This book touched a piece of me I so rarely get to share with those outside of work, and I hope that those who read 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 feel an pull towards a life filled with fewer regrets and more living.

In The Collected Regrets of Clover we are introduced to the MC, Clover, who works as a death doula. She’s always had an interesting relationship with death since witnessing her kindergarten teacher pass away as a kid and then being raised by her grandfather after the passing of her parents. . Clover has spent her entire life as a recluse ushering others into their dying journey, chronicling their last words and regrets while never truly managing her own grief and never identifying what a life worth living for her was. . Not only do you get to witness, first hand, the unique and tailored care a death doula provides but you also get to be in the tension with Clover as she learns that she doesn’t have to end her life with regrets if she makes the decision while she’s alive to actually live. . This was a great read that presents many different perspectives on how to view death and dying and that makes you ponder how you can truly live your life while alive without it ending with a lot of regrets and shoulda-coulda-woulda’s. . . QUESTION: What is something that’s on your bucket list that you want to accomplish before passing? One for me, is I want to visit all 50 states in the United States. . . . #thecollectedregretsofclover @mikkibrammer #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #blackwomenread #booklover #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #readersofinstagram #bookreview #literaryfiction #booksthatmatter #bookrecommendations

💛 𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗬 𝗣𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗕𝗜𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗗𝗔𝗬! 💛 Thank you to @StMartinsPress for the free book! 💐 And not only did they send me this lovely paperback copy, they also sent me a bookplate signed by the author ( >> swipe to check it out 👀 >> ). 🪻Happy paperback birthday to one of my favorite books of 2023, 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧! This heartwarming story observes how we shape the course of others’ lives, often without realizing it. Through her quirky protagonist Clover Brooks, a death doula, debut author Mikki Brammer beautifully examines themes of life, death, grief, love, and courage. 🪻You might expect a story about a death doula to be depressing, but that couldn’t be further from the case. This coming-of-age story is filled with growth and hopefulness, and Clover is one of the most appealing protagonists I have ever come across. The charming cast of supporting characters is so endearing – Clover’s old neighbor Leo, her new neighbor Sylvie, Bessie the bookshop owner, and her dying client Claudia, just to name a few – and all of them touch Clover’s life in meaningful ways. Clover’s character arc is delightful, making this a book I hoped would never end. ➡️ ℚ𝕆𝕋𝔻: Do you prefer hardcover or paperback? #TheCollectedRegretsOfClover #MikkiBrammer #StMartinsPress #SMPinfluencers #FiveStarBook #FiveStarRead #DebutAuthor #DebutAuthors #Paperback #Paperbacks #PaperbackBooks #PaperbackLove

📖 Review 📖 'The Collected Regrets of Clover' by @mikkibrammer Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞? For my book club I read ‘The Collected Regrets of Clover’. After reading the book blurb, I found myself intrigued with this story so I was really excited to read it. And in the end I must say I loved every single page of this book. ‘The Collected Regrets of Clover’ is written in a beautiful and inspiring way. There are many lines and quotes I loved while reading this book. But this was also a confronting read. Throughout this read I kept thinking, my mom should read this book. After losing my dad, a year and a half ago, death has been a big topic in this house. Not only because of my own grieve, but we also had to explain to our little girl that her grandfather was dead. And if you have children you know how brutally honest kids are. And death is definitely one of those topics that she announced on rather unexpected and sometimes awkward moments. A lot of moments in this book felt and sounded familiar. The way some people don’t want to acknowledge sickness and death at all. While other’s want to talk about it non-stop. And the way people tend to not ask how you are after having lost someone more than a year ago. Like it isn’t something that is at the forefront of your thoughts after the one year mark. Mikki Bramer was able to pull me into the story of Clover. Her character was awkward and slightly depressing at times, but she also felt really real to me. And I loved every moment in this read. I loved her quirky grandpa with his strange collection, and Clover’s city dog. And thankfully there was a bit of romance as well to make it a bit lighter.. but above all it was just a beautiful book. And my mom has started reading it as well! 😉 * What was the last book that really touched you? #MikkiBrammer #BookClubReads #Reader #BookBlogger #Reviewer #TheCollectedRegretsofClover #BeautifulReads #MustRead

Blurb: What’s the point of giving someone a beautiful death if you can’t give yourself a beautiful life? “Engaging and accessible… Clover’s emergence from a shuttered life is moving enough to elicit tears, and Brammer’s take on death and grieving is profound.” ✨ My quick thoughts + quotes I loved: 💫 Read this book 💫 Five Beautiful stars 💫 Keeping it forever “Messages of love always make their way through, even when someone is unconscious.” “One young creative life blossoms as another one ends; there was something beautiful about the tenuous reality of being human.” “Love is kind of like scratching a mosquito bite—painful and euphoric at the same time. You’ve just got to get out of your head and into your heart.” “Learn from my mistakes, my darling…Don’t let the best parts of life pass you by because you’re too scared of the unknown. Happy one year anniversary to THE COLLECTED REGRETS OF CLOVER! This title follows Clover, a death doula who helps transition clients peacefully into death. I was not sure what to expect when I picked up this book and was blown away! Clover is a bit of a recluse dealing with the grief of losing her father figure (her grandfather). She was such a lovable character and learned to live and love after losing her grandfather. I adored this story and highly recommend it! RATING: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Have you ever heard of a death doula?

Our May #WNBC selection was lovely story full of impactful quotes and big feels.  #TheCollectedRegretsOfClover by @mikkibrammer was a bit melancholy, but I think it’s understandable given the subject of death, dying, and grief.  The book kicks off with an incredibly memorable first sentence — ”The first time I watched someone die, I was five” – and carries on throughout the novel building a strong MC, Clover, whom you grow to regard with great affection.  From her tumultuous beginnings, she grows up to hold an untraditional job of death doula, guiding individuals and their loved ones through their transition through the dying process, while gathering Regrets, Advice, and Confessions from those she’s caring for along the way.  However, what you discover is that while Clover is the one left at the end of the process still alive, she is hardly living.  I’ll be honest, about 40% in, I didn’t know how much I would like the book only because I felt so darn sad for Clover who was raised in an isolated environment with little-to-no love and affection.  In fact, one of the saddest lines I read – in this book or any – was when she said, “I didn’t even know if I was ticklish.”  🥺😭However, the book definitely turned it around by giving glimmers of anticipation and hope and ended on a note of possibility that propelled the book to over 4-stars for me because of the feel-good aspect.  This book was nominated for the @goodreads #NomineeForBestFiction in 2023 as well as #NomineeForBestDebutNovel, and I look forward to reading more by this author.  There really were too many good quotes for me to choose just one.  Swipe ➡️ to see some of my other faves.  I don’t think they spoil the book #nospoilers, but I think it gives you a glimpse into the gems that you will discover on this journey. 💎 🍷 #WNBC 🔠 #AlphabetSoup C

“Be cautiously reckless.” Oh my gosh this book. Clover is a Death Doula who takes on a new client and a friendship develops and mysteries unravel. A story about living life fully without regrets, getting out of your comfort zone, living, dying, friendships, and love. An absolutely captivating read. Another quote that won me over - “And instead of constantly asking ourselves the question of why we’re here, maybe we should be savoring a simpler truth: we are here.” #mikkibrammer #thecollectedregretsofclover #fiction #adultfiction #booksofinstagram #instabooks #bookstagram #deathdoula #booksbooksbooks #bookrecommendations

💐The Collected Regrets of Clover💐 . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . This book blew me away and I am so mad that I had this on my tbr for a year before picking it up. . The Collected Regrets Of Clover is about a death doula who is so comfortable in her life surrounded by the dead and the dying that she doesn't realize until her thirties that she has forgotten to actually live her life while she is still here. When she meets a feisty old woman as her next client Clover is sent on a road trip to try and fulfill one last dying wish and help clear her client of one last regret before their time is up. . This book was absolutely beautiful and talks about death in a way that makes it feel less scary and more like a period at the end of a thrilling adventure. For a book that focuses so much around the dying it felt so full of life and made me sit and really think about my own life and how I have been living it. I am someone that finds comfort in routine and doesn't like to stray too far from the norm, which is something that I feel like most people nowadays can relate to. I am young, only 24, and so I surely have tons of time to do everything I want to in life.. right? But that is the funny thing about death. You never know when it is coming. I lost my father about 6 months ago completely unexpectedly. He was only 48, and so based on average life expectancy he had atleast 30 years left, but the reality is things happen more quickly than you could ever anticipate. After reading this book I have been inspired to put more effort into both being my best self as well as doing more adventurous things and exploring more opportunities. I'm only 24, but that just gives me more time to make more memories. . I gave this book 5⭐️ and I am tempted to push it up further than that. I loved every second of this book and think everyone should read it. This is easily one of my top ten reads of all time and I will definitely be rereading it in the future. . ❓️QOTD: If you knew the world would end in 1 year, what would you do for the last year? . 🏷 #bookreview #bookish #booksta #bookstagram #booktok #thecollectedregretsofclover #fivestarread #5starread #fivestarreview

The Collected Regrets of Clover - Mikki Brammer Clover has always had an interesting relationship with death. It started when her kindergarten teacher dropped dead in class. While all the other children cried, Clover held his hand and kept him company as he passed on. Now living in New York and working as a death doula, there are plenty of lonely souls who need comfort and company as they go through their end of life process. But what is the point of giving people a beautiful death if Clover won’t give herself a beautiful life. When Clover meets her next client Claudia, Clover is forced into reevaluating her life and weigh up the risks she is willing to take so she has no regrets when it’s her turn pass on. I would have never picked this book up if it wasn’t in the Dymocks Top 101 for 2024 and I am so glad I did. It would be very close to one of the best books I have read this year. It was an absolutely delight, heartfelt and meaningful. Clover was so kind but a real hot mess and despite her attempts at imposed isolation, the friendships that she gained along the way just warmed my heart. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoyed books and characters like Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. 2024 Dymocks Top 101 - 78/101 QOTD: what’s one activity on your bucket list? Sometimes thinking about the past isn’t always a bad thing as it makes you realize or remember how far you have come. I love books that make you think on a much deeper level & these four did just that: • Atomic Habits by James Clear • I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy • Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler • The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer Have you read any of these? ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 A very sad book with a happy ending. The story follows a young woman who is a death doula as she deciphers what she wants out of life based on the regrets of others. If you have lost a loved one and struggle with what to do with their things, this fictional story might actually help you let go and move on. IDK. 📚 Review - The Collected Regrets of Clover After seeing a lot of love for this book and hearing it was incredibly heartfelt, I knew that I needed to check it out! The Collected Regrets of Clover is about Clover who is a death doula. She spends the last months/weeks/days with people who are dying and helps prepare them for the end of their lives. While she is great at her job, she has a hard time making connections with people and other than her deceased grandpa’s best friend, she doesn’t have many people in her life. This changes when a new neighbour moves in and pushes her out of her comfort zone. She also takes on a new patient that Clover takes an immediate liking to. Her Grandson who hired Clover shows interest in her, and begins to test the waters of dating life with him. The book focuses on what these people bring to her life, and the changes she begins to make. I thought the description and thoughts around death were beautiful. I absolutely loved learning about Clover’s job and found it fascinating. I would have enjoyed the book diving even deeper into that world. I love that there was a dog named George and I adored the plot point of Clover’s notebooks, and doing something from them to represent her clients who had passed. I would say my biggest complaint about this book was the way the characters were written. I felt like they were almost like a bit of a characature of different types of people and were all so extreme in their one dimensionality. There was: Sebastian - selfish Sylvie - wild and carefree Clover - naive and unsure about everything For me this lead to a lot of the conversations not coming across as real or genuine. I had a hard time with Clover’s character especially. She was so deep and understanding and intuitive with her clients, but then we were supposed to believe she was incredibly naive when dealing with literally every single other person. Overall though, I thought this book had an absolutely beautiful message about life and death and making the most of your time here on earth. It was incredibly sweet and definitely worth a read - 4/5 stars QOTD - What are you currently reading?

🤎BOOK REVIEW🤎 The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer Rating — ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️♾️ Format — 📖&🎧 Read if you like — 💭Introspective reads 📚Literary fiction 💫Fresh perspective on life ✍️First-person POV 👣Unique characters Favorite quotes — “Grief is just love looking for a place to settle.” “The secret to a beautiful death is living a beautiful life.” My thoughts — Be cautiously reckless. This is one of those books you’ll highlight and tab crap out of, and any random page you turn to will have wisdom pouring out on the pages. Clover is an introvert who lives a mundane life within her own head. Death has been a common companion in her life and has been a point of intrigue for her since she was a child. In her adult years, she has a unique profession — she is a death doula. She provides companionship to those who are on the edge of passing away, and collects their final thoughts and feelings; advice, confessions, and regrets. Throughout the book, Clover pays homage to these collected memories and experiences. But while her life revolves around ushering people into their death, she forgot to create a life of her own. Her curiosity surrounding death and the human experience leads her to “death cafes” around New York, where strangers meet to discuss various questions, thoughts and feelings surrounding the idea of death. She unexpectedly finds a new perspective through her latest patient, which inspires her to uncover the mystery of an epic love story. Clover was such a wonderful, human character. Her development and growth throughout the story was beautifully done. I saw myself in her in some ways. Maybe more ways that I would like to admit. I also enjoyed getting to know the side characters and how they all impacted Clover’s life. This story provides a thought-provoking and unique perspective on life, death, and grief. There is a bit of mystery and romance, but most of all, wisdom. It reminds us that time is precious. From the beginning, I was reminded of the book Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine - but even better. I loved every second of this read and could not put it down. Simply put: This book will impact your life.

✨Book Review ✨ Title: The Collected Regrets of Clover Author: Mikki Brammer Genre: Fiction Rating: 5⭐️ "And I always keep my word. Shepherding a dying person through the last days of their life is a privilege - especially when you're the only thing they have to hold on to." The best book I've read this year and one of my favorites of all time. This book made me feel every emotion and I sobbed multiple times. The theme of grief and extreme loneliness throughout Clover's story is so well done. As a death doula, loner, and "weirdo", I instantly loved Clover and how she navigated through life. The notebooks she kept of her patient's advice, confessions, and regrets were so fascinating to hear about. My favorite part of the story was her patient Claudia's life story and the true love she missed out on. I highly recommend this book!! 💐 Read if you love: ✔️Themes of loneliness, grief, and hope ✔️Learning to be "cautiously reckless" ✔️All aspects of death and dying with dignity ✔️Sobbing A LOT Swipe for the Goodreads summary ⬅️ #fivestarread #thecollectedregretsofclover #mikkibrammer #bookrecommendations #bookreview #goodreads #fiction #griefjourney #loneliness #grief #deathdoula #topreadoftheyear #newyorkcity #corsica #lifejourney #dyingwithdignity #booksbooksbooks

The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Genre: Contemporary Romance Literary Fiction Pages: 320 pages | Current GR rating: 4.18 My thoughts: 'The Collected Regrets of Clover' is a mesmerizing debut novel, narrated in ornate, poetic prose that explores death through the lens of a death doula. For Clover, death should not be a topic anyone must avoid discussing. Her experiences with the dying led her to document their regrets in a leather-bound notebook. She embarks on fulfilling her deceased clients' 'regrets,' from seemingly trivial tasks like adopting a hamster to learning how to ice-skate. As Clover spends time with Claudia, she uncovers a beautiful untold story whose ending is still an unread page in a book. Is she prepared to fulfill the unspoken wish of a dying woman? What would her choices mean for her as well? The book may only be for some, but it spoke to me. Clover’s story was a gift that I had to unravel little by little. I am in awe of how her narrative filled a void so vast it might have sealed shut eternally. It evoked a strong desire to connect with Clover, to journey alongside her as she rediscovers herself, shattering every vestige of self-doubt that had consumed her entire life. It will be difficult to move on from this book. The only solace I find is in owning every fragment of this narrative. If you explore this book and experience the magic within, I hope it grants you the same courage as Clover's, allowing you to conquer even a tiny space in the grand scheme of life. ❓❓❓QoTD: What is your most anticipated read of May? Happy May 💐🩵🦋✨May everyone have a beautiful month filled with love, celebrations, & positivity! April went by so quickly; it was a lovely month filled with celebrations, appreciation of nature & the way spring blossoms in my heart as the world becomes vivid in colors🌷🌿 I think this was reflected through my reading as I found myself more drawn to books with floral covers! From the absolutely fun series that reminded me of Brigerton/Jane Austen/Pirates of the Caribbean & was the best spring reading - The Dangerous Damsels series, to “The Lost Apothecary”that renewed my sense of adventure to the beautiful story of “The Collected Regrets of Clover” which celebrated life through death, all the books I read in April truly felt like spring in so many aspects! May outlook 🌺🌸: This month always feels like a spring/summer cusp for me, as it feels like the gateway into summer but the showers remind me it’s truly spring 😅 But like summer, it’s similar in the sense that it marks the beginning of so many happy/joyous things happening as the weather gets warmer that it feels like summer vacation & this year is no exception: from graduation celebrations to some exciting trips planned this month that I’ve been looking forward to all year ( & years prior) because one of the trips is a place I’ve wanted to visit since I was a child 🥹, while another is one of my favorite places on Earth, to AAPI month in which i celebrate not only my own Asian heritage, but also make a stronger attempt to ensure I’m reading books from authors of AAPI heritage - there truly is a lot to look forward to this month 🎊 💬 QOTD: Do you have anything you’re looking forward to doing this month? Also comment a book of an AAPI author that I should check out this month ❤️⤵️

April 12. Many Lives Many Masters ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 13. The Tiger’s Wife ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 14. Good Vibes, Good Life ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 15. Bewilderment ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 16. The Women ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 17. The Sun and her Flowers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My take on these books… Many Lives Many Masters…wow. One of my favorite quotes from the book is “balance and harmony are neglected today, yet they are the foundations of wisdom.” This book will leave you spinning as you think about the after life…and past lives. The Tiger’s Wife has been resting on my shelf for years waiting to be read. Some of the story line, I hung on every word and other parts I found myself a bit lost. In the end it was beautiful. My team got me Good Vibes, Good Life. For anyone looking for small doses on living a better life this is a great manual to guide you. I loved the format and every concept was approachable. Bewilderment was gifted to me and the timing was crazy. It’s about a little boy who loses his mom and he goes through nuerofeedback therapy. The relationship between father and son and the visual descriptions of nature make this book stunning. The ending is painful though, so be ready. The Women is my May book club pick. I’m a fan of her writing and she dives in deep in this book. I learned so much about Vietnam, those that served, and the trauma that lingered a lifetime. It was very raw in some parts. It’s a must read in my book. The Sun and Her Flowers is a book of poetry I’ve slowly been chipping away at. One to two poems a day will leave with you with plenty to ponder. She cuts to the core and at times leaves you in awe. #manylivesmanymasters #brianlweiss #thetigerswife #teaobreht #thesunandherflowers #rupikumar #goodvibesgoodlife #vexking #thewomen #kristinhannah #bewilderment #richardpowers Currently reading: The Covenant of Water The House in the Gerulean Sea The Devil in the White City The Collected Regrets of Clover #thecovenantofwater #abrahamverghese #thehouseinthegeruleansea #tjkline #devilinthewhitecity #eriklarson #thecollectedregretsofclover #mikkibramm

If there’s ever a book out there about grief, death, and moving on in life, Clover’s story is a must-read! You would think this might be morbid or gloomy, but this book is uplifting at best. The poetic way the author has written about death is humbling. TW for anyone who is indeed experiencing grief or the loss of a loved one, and for anyone who may find the topic sensitive to read about. At the beginning of the book, the pace might seem slow, but once it picks up, you’ll come to really love Clover and appreciate her heartwarming story. • “What most people don’t consider is that death is often random and cruel. It doesn’t care if you’ve been kind all your life. Or if you’ve eaten healthily, exercised often, and always worn a seat belt or a helmet. It doesn’t care that a loved one left behind might spend the rest of their lives replaying events in their head, tormented by the words “if only.” People tell themselves they’ve got plenty of time, until they’re at the mercy of a careless action—a driver on their cellphone, a neighbor who left a candle burning. And by then, it’s too late.” • Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ • This is easily one of my favourites! If you like this one, you might also enjoy The Likely Resolutions of Oliver Clock by Jane Riley ✨ • xoxo, 🌻 #bookrecommendations #fiction #contemporary #bookstagram #booksbooksbooks #bookaddict #mikkibrammer #thecollectedregretsofclover #readersofinstagram #bookclub

I had never heard of a death doula before reading this book, but it’s a lovely concept. The MC in the book sits with the dying and helps them process their last wishes and regrets. All the while she has closed herself in and is creating in her own life the same types of regrets her clients share. I liked the characters in this one. They were complex and most of them didn’t do what I thought they were going to. The unpredictability felt authentic. It was a sweet story and I was definitely cheering on the MC in her journey. 🤔 QOTD: What’s your last read for April? 📍 Challenge Prompts Met: #clearthelibbyholdschallenge2024 Libby hold; #CheckoutYourBooksIn2024 A book from the library 🏷 #150booksrmagicin2024 📚 (63/150) #thecollectedregretsofclover #mikkibrammer #deathdula #libby #ebook #foundfamily #journeyofdiscovery #selfdiscovery #nyc #grief #deathcafe #regrets #advice #confessions #contemporaryfiction #literaryfiction #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #book #books #bookstagram #bookish #bibliophile #bookaholic #booklover #booknerd #bookaddict

🍀📖 Clover Brooks has always been fascinated with death, from when she first witnessed her kindergarten teacher passing away to the loss of her parents at an early age, she has always seen death as a natural process to life. But when she loses her beloved grandfather that raised her while studying abroad, Clover dedicates herself into becoming a death doula to ensure others don’t go through death without someone by their side. Although admirable at first, Clover becomes seemingly content on focusing more on the dying than living a fulfilling life, till she accepts former photojournalist & terminal cancer patient, Claudia. Suddenly, Clover finds herself embarking on an unexpected life-changing journey: from trying new activities out of her comfort zone to thought-provoking & deep introspections, the readers are also taken along for a ride with Clover, & afterwards are left also thinking about our similarities to Clover & the possible regrets we are collecting by limiting ourselves from living life to the fullest 🌱💚💐🥀 💭Sometimes, you can tell a book will be good just from its premise & “The Collected Regrets of Clover” is the perfect example of one, as death & loneliness are already difficult & sensitive topics to discuss, yet here is a story that centers around them & yet masterfully executes it to be an uplifting, heartwarming, & an inspiring read, which is truly such an impressive feat, especially as this is Brammer’s debut novel! So many things I loved about this book: from the snippets of nostalgia I felt as someone who also grew up in NYC, to it gracefully embracing these uncomfortable topics by following the journey of such a memorable & yet unexpectedly relatable character like 36 y.o. Clover, who is awkward, introverted, & has an interesting occupation, but also feels life so deeply. She has such endearing qualities, in which my favorite is her habit of recording her client’s last words (Advice/Confessions/Regrets) & even trying to honor their last wishes in some form, to her kindness in ensuring her clients end of life process is dignified; it’s truly a tender story that will stay with me for a long time💚

📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖 The Collected Regrets of Clover follows Clover, 36 years old, who is a death doula. This is the second book in a row that I’ve read where the main character is a death doula however, I think that the profession is portrayed really well in this book. It takes such an honest approach on how death is and can be handled. Throughout the beginning of the book, I found myself waiting for a major problem however, I soon realized that the novel is more about Clover’s journey. She’s anti social, awkward and guarded yet she is caring and a good listener to those that she cares about. This is a sentimental, endearing and thought-provoking novel that dives deep into the topic of death so I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone. But it’s definitely a tender and special book that will leave you smiling. This is a @mikkibrammer debut novel and she indeed did a beautiful job with the storyline, can’t wait for future books by her! ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

✨Currently Reading✨ Funny Story + The Collected Regrets of Clover I am VERY slowly reading these two. Funny Story is my physical read, and Collected Regrets is my kindle read. I haven’t been in a super focused reading mood so I’m chiseling away at these at a slower than normal pace. 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬. Clover is a death doula - who knew such a thing existed - helping to care for those who are about to depart this life. Orphaned at a young age and raised by her grandfather, Clover has learned that it’s best not to make connections with people so that you won’t be disappointed when you lose them. Not a very happy way to live. However, with the help of some new friends, Clover eventually learns how to live her life rather than just exist. The Collected Regrets of Clover is a lovely story on grief, friendship, and love of all kinds. 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐢𝐬 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞. Things I Liked: -The secondary characters - Claudia, Leo, Grandfather, Sylvia, Bessie, Hugo -Clover documents her clients last words, whether they are words of advice, regrets, or confessions. She then tries to incorporate some of those words into her own life. What I struggled with: Full disclosure, I struggled a bit with some of Clover’s background, especially her age. We’re supposed to believe that she’s a 36-year-old woman who has never had a single friend or been on a date??! I understand that she’s hesitant to make connections, I even understand why, but for someone who is well traveled and who is warm and confident in her professional life it’s hard to believe she’s as immature and clueless in her personal life. I liked the Clover we saw when she was with her clients, but the Clover in the rest of the book…it was almost as though we were reading about two different people. All that said, Clover does show a lot of growth so maybe that was the point. QOTD: What are your weekend plans? 🌸R E V I E W🌸 The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer Audiobook Genre: Fiction ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ SYNOPSIS: From Goodreads, "What’s the point of giving someone a beautiful death if you can’t give yourself a beautiful life? From the day she watched her kindergarten teacher drop dead during a dramatic telling of Peter Rabbit , Clover Brooks has felt a stronger connection with the dying than she has with the living. After the beloved grandfather who raised her dies alone while she is traveling, Clover becomes a death doula in New York City, dedicating her life to ushering people peacefully through their end-of-life process. Clover spends so much time with the dying that she has no life of her own, until the final wishes of a feisty old woman send Clover on a road trip to uncover a forgotten love story—and perhaps, her own happy ending. As she finds herself struggling to navigate the uncharted roads of romance and friendship, Clover is forced to examine what she really wants, and whether she’ll have the courage to go after it." MY THOUGHTS: Love, love, love! This is one of those books that will stick with me for a long time to come. If you are a mood reader, heads up that parts of this book can be quite heavy, but the author did a perfect job of balancing sadness with joy and hope. This is such a sweet coming of age, finding yourself, and finding your place in the world where you can truly be yourself novel that is just pure sweetness. Bottom line: Highly recommend! Would make an excellent gift book! QOTD: What are you reading this weekend? #thecollectedregretsofclover #fiction #reading #reviews

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. I desperately wanted to love this story. I'd heard so many incredible things. I wanted to hear more about the work of a death doula and so much more about the families that the main character had worked with. I thought the author did a lovely job showing how grief had intensified her introversion, but i just wanted something deeper. I didn't like the romance tacked onto the end. I wish it had been left open. Perhaps I wasn't in the right frame of mind for this one. #bookreview #bookrecommendations #⭐️⭐️⭐️ #grief #regret #bookstagram #thecollectedregretsofclover #bookclub #Australianauthors

💐 REVIEW ~ the collected regrets of clover by mikki brammer 💐 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Another five star read to add to my 2024 reading list! 👏🏻 This one was so so good. If you’ve ever lost someone close to you, this book will resonate with you deeply. It reminded me of so many of my favourite books — if you liked A Man Called Ove, The 100 Years of Lenni and Margot, The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, The Measure, or The Seven Year Slip, I think you will really enjoy this book. All of the characters were so unique, rich and interesting. I wanted to know more about them all and loved all of their relationships. I loved how much Clover grew and changed as a person throughout the book. Even though the content of the book was sad at times, it was a very uplifting read and one of those books that will stay with me for a long time.

Probing, clever, and hopeful, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 is perfect for readers of The Midnight Library and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine as it turns the normally taboo subject of death into a reason to celebrate life. A book about death and dying… but really life and living. 🫂 This was one of my top votes for @bookofthemonth’s annual #BOTY consideration in 2023. It is a debut by @mikkibrammer and is about a death doula learning to live her life without the fear she’s always harbored. I think Mikki did a great job writing about a typically avoided about topic in a thoughtful and beautiful way. The main character, Clover, goes on an emotional adventure when an older feisty client asks Clover to fulfill one of her last wishes to get closure on a forgotten love. What I especially loved was that Clover kept 3 📓 to write down what she learned from her clients to keep their memories recorded: one book was for Confessions, another was for Advice, and the last was Regrets. So yes, it’s a book about dying but in the process - letting go of fear and doubt, and just living life to the max along the way. 💐🤍 •••• Posting about this book now even though I read it last summer because I stumbled across a copy in a local Hoboken @littlefreelibrary recently and was so thrilled about it!! 📫 • • • • #bookoftheday #bookofthemonth #boty #botm #thecollectedregretsofclover #mikkibrammer #stmartinspress #deathdoula #advice #confessions #regrets #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookcommunity #tbr
