Work on your balance!! It is SUPER important!!! 😆 In my previous post, I talked about one of my clients and how bettering her balance was something that she wanted to work on. We’ve been working on it since September, and she has been doing great!! Your situation might not be exactly like hers, but it does show what could happen with your balance if you do not stay active. Balance & core is something we normally don’t actively work on (of course, unless your job requires it or you’re already working out) and when you stop working on it, issues tend to arise. For example, going up the stairs, getting up from a chair, etc. I’ve seen clients way younger than her have trouble with their balance. It is super important to incorporate this into your workouts. If you are struggling in ways to incorporate a little balance practice, here are a couple of ideas/activities to try: *yoga *heel-to-toe walking *Tai Chi *Dancing *Running *Marching in place Pick one of these and try them out!! 🙌🏽 Check out my free programming booklet and try it out (each exercise has a video showing how to do it)! Celebrating two of my awesome clients!! They have both been working extremely hard, and importantly, have been consistent. Super proud of them and how far they have come. Both are excited in seeing their progress and feeling better. My first client (first two pics) started with me on September 2023 and is a mom of a little one and wanted to start on her journey to feel better and loose some weight while feeling stronger. She has been amazing and loves to challenge herself. I can throw anything her way and she’s willing to try it. The last two videos are her showing her stuffff!!! 🙌🏽💪🏽 My second client (3rd & 4th pictures) started with me in June 2023 and came to me with goals of also loosing some weight but mostly to feel stronger, feel healthier, and gain some muscle (as she is gettting older and is super important). She had begun camping (with her camper) when she first started with me, and has noticed that all of the physical demands that come with loading/unloading, hitching/unhitching of the camper has become so much easier. Her balance has greatly improved and she always tells me that she uses her core for everything she does! I’m super excited for her because she has added movement to her life & hasn’t stopped since. Your 2024 goals don’t mean shit if you don’t know how to implement them🤭 You voted in my poll and told me what you want to achieve this year - I’m giving you three focus points for each goal. It’s deeper than the generic. We know you need a calorie deficit. We know you need daily movement. We know a nutrient dense diet is important. …but that’s not a strategy‼️‼️‼️ I used to struggle reaching my goals because I lacked clarity on what they even were. I first want to start off by saying how proud I am of @rosamondwanda for coming to me to start taking control of her health and fitness❤️⁣ ⁣ She told me early on she had early alzheimer's and osteoporosis. ⁣ ⁣ Kay decided to stop taking the meds and vitamins the doctors suggested because they made her dizzy and not feel good at all! She added in strength training and now her doctor is saying not to change a thing!🥹🙌🏼⁣ ⁣ Monday she went to the University of MS Medical Center and got amazing results! Typically the doctors see worse results at this appointment, but not Kay!! Her memory has improved!!💥⁣ ⁣ I am overjoyed for her and pray things keep going this way!! This just shows what exercise can do for the body 𝘢𝘯𝘥 mind!!🙏🏻🙏🏻

Are you attached to the number on the scale? Read below 🔽 On the left: 18 year old Claire. Always wanting to be thin like her friends. Always on a diet - 1200 calories, shake diet, Jenny Craig. Sticking to cardio machines at the gym, with no clear plan other than to ‘burn calories’. Believed it was my genetics to be overweight. On the right: 38 years old. I train to feel strong. I train with a plan. I train to be better than I was yesterday. I focus on eating a balanced Mediterranean diet, with a protein forward strategy to maintain and build muscle. I stil eat what I want but with knowledge of how different foods affect my body and brain (and hence mood and motivation). I’m not scared of the scale and I weigh myself out of curiosity, not fear. I know that one meal or one blow out will not affect my goals long term. I accept that injuries, and set backs are apart of the process and move forward with MY personal best effort. So many women are still scale focused. Weight focused. They are terrified of putting on ‘weight’. I’ve been there BELIEVE ME I have. But what weight training for over 10 years has taught me is this. What women should be more concerned about, is losing muscle, losing bone density, becoming weak and more prone to injury, knee pain, back pain, and inflammation. What women should be EXCITED about is getting strong, reducing inflammation, maintaining muscle through strength training and diet and ultimately becoming the most confident, best version of themselves. Trust the process, be consistent and over time the mental shift will follow! 🙌 If you need help I am here!! Hi Everyone!  👋🏼 I don't think I've ever done an actual intro post, so I wanted to introduce myself! 🇵🇷I was born in San Juan, PR and moved to Florida when I was around 8 years old. In college (UCF-GO Knights!!) I joined their Tae-Kwon-Do club, yoga and cardio step classes and loved it.  I majored with a BS in Physics/Astronomy and an MS in Industrial Engineering.  🧘🏽‍♀️After many years, and 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 later, we 🏡 to Texas.  I became a bilingual teacher.  Unhappy in my job, I tried to figure out what to do.  I decided to start a blog (yoga & crochet) to help with my work monotony.  I called it Slipstitch & Mantra.   🦠  I got certified in yoga, then Covid came.  Working on my certification helped me during this time.  After getting my 200 hr cert, I jumped straight into my 300 hr cert. 🏋🏻‍♀️  2 yrs later, I got my NASM PT Cert, Stretching & Flexibility Cert, & started working with 1:1 clients.  I've been doing this, & teaching yoga on the side for a little over a year @grounding_fitness. 🙌🏼  My passion is to educate & empower women, 1:1 either online or face to face, to incorporate strength training into their daily life.  I ❤️working with beginners, pre/post natal, & peri/post menopausal women.  For me, starting perimenopause, was a tipping point.  I had a lot of questions about the way I worked out and ate.  This sent me down a path to educate myself so that I could help not only myself, but also others.   A postnatal friend asked me to train her, so it led me to educate myself in training mamas and mamas to be.  🙎🏻‍♀️  Some frustrations I hear from women is the stubborn weight gain in the midsection for menopausal women and loss of core for postnatal mamas.  When working with me, you will get a patient and encouraging coach that will motivate you.  You will come out of our sessions feeling strong, and will work towards building muscle, strengthening the core, learning about proper nutrition, and learning ways to make working out enjoyable! 23.2 is in the books. This is the first year I had zero rest days in between a race and an Open workout. Did I have goals? Sure- something to aim for. Did I have expectations? Absolutely not. I actually didn’t have any goals for part A and my biggest win is that I didn’t get ANY no reps 🙌🏻👏🏻💪🏻 Although it can easily be argued that my form was not ideal with the pull ups…I got them all without having to kip any 😃 For part B- I don’t think I’ve ever worked up to a 1RM for a thruster before 🤷🏼‍♀️ So my hopeful goal was based on my current 1RM for my clean and push press (both 115#). My wins: Getting a super solid feeling squat clean at 95# and 105# and hitting those thrusters and hitting TWO 115# power cleans, although missing the last push for the thruster both attempts. I find it ironic that it was my upper body that ultimately failed me after completing a 50k trail run less than 24 hours before this workout…but it shows what I need to keep working on. In a previous post, we cleared the myths on strength training for women and discussed at least six compelling reasons why all women should be lifting weights. It’s great to hear that more of you have acquainted yourselves with the iron since then. That being said, I’ve been getting a lot of questions on whether women should strength train differently from men, given the physical and physiological differences, the amount of muscle each naturally carries, etc. The short answer is no. Ladies, you can hit it as hard as the men do during strength training. However, there are some tweaks you can make to get the most out of your training. Studies show that women are more resistant to fatigue than men (you can thank your prehistoric ancestors for that), and can generally do more repetitions at a given (relative) weight than men. This means that if you’re a woman, your muscles are capable of functioning for a longer time under stress. All that this is to say that a strength training program for women is likely to benefit more from: ✅Higher repetition targets ✅Possibly an overall higher training volume (i.e. higher number of sets) ✅A shorter interval in between sets At the end of the day, and as I said before, your training should be dictated by your needs and goals as a person—not your gender. So keep at it, consider making these adjustments (look at it as playing to your strengths), and go and show those meatheads who’s boss. Thought I would introduce myself again….. My name is Claire and I’m a mummy to two beautiful ladies and a very lucky wife. I used to be a secondary school teacher but unfortunately had to to stop due to post natal depression when I had my eldest daughter. After having my second daughter I ended up putting on 2 stone of baby weight and knew I needed to loose it. The ethos with LTPT has always and will always be to teach people to lift perfectly. That is my passion. And is what has allowed me to create a team of lifters that come into the gym and perform each exercise with spot on technique. Starting April with a cocktail in my hand🍹 March was definitely not the best month for me. I haven’t been able to be consistent with my training, my nutrition and routine hasn’t been always the best and honestly I have just felt exhausted over the last weeks. BUT that’s okay and we are moving forward! It’s a new month, new goals and hopefully this month my fibro will be bit nicer with me 😂 My goals for this month is to get back to the gym (going back tomorrow after couple of weeks off 😍), being consistent with my training and nutrition AND prioritising sleep and rest. Not everyday is going to look the same. Remember that you are on this journey to give your 100% everyday and it doesn’t need to look the same than everyone else’s. Somedays it can be doing some light stretching at home and next day it can be hitting new PBs at the gym. Lately my symptoms have been flaring up a lot, and the guilt over missing workouts has been real. But there is no reason to feel guilty over things that are out of your control. So the best thing I can do is to accept that and make sure I’m doing my best on that specific day. Some days and weeks will be harder than the others, and there will always be hard times. But as long as you keep going after those hard days and don’t give up on yourself, that’s all that matters. Keep showing up for yourself and keep prioritising your health and well-being, even if today it’s just small actions.

💪🏻CLIENT PROGRESS💪🏻 Progress from Online Client Sophie in 2 months. Top photos mid November (1 month into coaching) Bottom photos mid January (3 months into coaching) Seeing some really noticeable body recomposition in these progress photos! Eating around 200kcal more per day on average. And also increased our Deadlift by 25kg and Squat by 10kg, and doing sets of 5 on jump up pull ups! So proud of you for diving head first into your programme and nutrition and giving solid effort and consistency right from the get go. This has been proven over and over again. Yes, you should also do some cardio to keep your heart strong. And of course you have to address what you are eating, but truth is STRENGTH TRAINING is THE most effective type of exercise for long-term sustainable FAT LOSS ! 🚨🚨IMPORTANT MESSAGE🚨🚨 Just because you see someone on Instagram who has popping abs, skinny legs, bubble butt etc, who looks like they got their shit together, doesn’t mean they do, and also doesn’t mean they’re healthy. (Now, not saying this applies to everyone! I know some amazing, disciplined, healthy people out there too who are ripped & healthy 😜). However, back in the days (while I was still modeling), I was under a lot of pressure to look a certain way. Society constantly was telling me I wasn’t good enough, and I had to be smaller and smaller. Top photo: Many many years ago. - Popping abs, slim thighs, cute butt. - Mental health: NOT OK. Stressed out everyday, ran 10km+ 5x a week, ate about 1,000-1,200 calories a day, tired all the time & lost my period. Scared to eat out with friends, I had no social life, I felt depressed and wanted to hurt myself many time. Bottom photo: - Gained some weight, restored my hormones, super energetic, strength training + some fun cardio, not scared to eat out, and better relationship with food, and enjoying the hell out of life! Sure my abs isn’t popping as much or I’m not as lean, but my quality of life is much better, I’m more confident, my body image issue is much better (this takes time to completely heal), and I have a great balance with life and fitness. My message here is do it for your health. You might think being skinnier or having abs will make you happier, but trust me I’ve been there. I wasn’t happier, being skinnier didn’t solve my body image issues, the issue was deeper than that. So please don’t make the same mistake that I did. 💪🏻 CLIENT TRANSFORMATION 💪🏻 This is my client Abbie. Two things have changed in this transformation, and one thing has stayed the same. First change: Calories. I am not a nutritionist and therefore do NOT write meals plans etc for my clients, however, if someone comes to me with a very low calorie intake I will support and help them to increase it. Abbie has been on a reverse diet since April and we’re currently at 1850kcal and still incrementally increasing up to a recommended amount for her stats. Second Change: Abbie’s strength has rocketed up. The first video is 27.5kg squats and the second video is 50kg squats as we work our way up to squatting body weight. This is a huge increase in strength. The thing that has stayed the same: Abbies weight! Despite eating 650kcal more every day Abbie’s weight has only increased within a 1kg fluctuation. Your body needs food and it’s so important to provide it with that. Eating an insufficient amount of calories can lead to Metabolic Adaptation. Metabolic adaptation is the body’s response to long term caloric restriction or starvation. When the body does not have enough calories available for it to use it slows down metabolism/ reduces the Resting Metabolic Rate (the amount of calories burnt by your body at rest) in order to burn fewer calories throughout the day. The body does this in order to conserve energy so that it can be used for necessary bodily functions/ existing. Reverse dieting works to boost Resting Metabolic Rate back up to its normal rate. It can lead to weight loss because as your metabolism rises back up, calories burnt/ energy expenditure can ultimately increase to be higher than calories in. It can also result in body recomposition, weight maintenance, and weight gain when needed.
