It was my 25th high school reunion this weekend, but it was also a 3-day holiday so I opted to stay in town with my family. We hosted a family barbeque. I almost got knocked over by Dakota because the ice cream truck came into our neighborhood. I took Frankie park skating. Frankie and I did our CrossFit workout together. And we camped out in the living room for two nights. 7 mile half marathon training run for Ella. She is the definition of grit and determination. Right before mile 6, and when we're close to looping back by the car, a rock jumped out of nowhere and caused her to fly through the air, crashing on her right side. She ended up with scraps all along her right side. I told her we could end the run early since we were close to the car, but she picked herself up, gave herself a second to recover, and she chose to finish her 7 miles. Helping my girls to understand when to push & when to rest. Competition training is tough. Not only physically but also mentally. They haven’t been back on the mats yet since competing at the weekend & that’s because they need to recharge & recover. Their little nervous systems need some downtime. I wish more people understood the importance of rest & how important it really is for longevity in sport. You can’t push, push, push all the time. My role as a parent is to advocate for my children & to educate them on tuning into their bodies & truly listen to what it’s trying to tell them….as females we are not robots. We need to honour our hormones & know when to push & when to dial it back in. Over the last few days we have been prioritising time in nature, fresh air, family time & sleep. We also went to see our Osteopath @rachel468 at Follan Natural Health Centre last night. We see her every 6-8 weeks for maintenance. This is another none negotiable as it keeps us all in tune with our bodies & it’s something that I would recommend for everyone. So ladies please don’t forget to listen to your bodies & let’s raise girls who are strong enough to know when to push & also when to take a step back. But as a widowed single Momma I’m telling you- providing the day to day comfort, peace and stability in their life is far more important! Today I celebrate the extraordinary journey of my sweet daughter Amelia. The 5th Grade Graduation Ceremony- the ending and beginning of an important era in her childhood. 🎉 She was 3 years old, when we lost her Daddy. I couldn’t shield her from this experience since it was out of control. I mean no child should ever have to endure such deep pain. You wouldn’t know it though, when you meet her. The internal work, the teaching of how to express herself and her emotions- especially the unwanted emotions in a healthy way , the million talks and questions I didn’t shy away from, the midnight crying spells, the laughter, the healing journey of her little heart and mind…. The SHOWING UP for her and her big brother daily… YES- that is what created PEACE for my kids. This girl is full of Spark, Joy and Sunshine. She has the biggest heart filled with Kindness and Compassion for others. 🥹 She makes me so proud and I am excited for her future. Catching up from the weekend backwards...lots of amazing things happening with our girls! Camille ran her first 5k with Girls on the Run with the group from the Boys&Girls Club of MC. We all know running is one of my loves so exposing the girls to running brings literal joy to my heart. It was hotter than expected, but she pushed through and finished! After her 5k Saturday, she moved her legs for her last regular season soccer game. Today is Pentecost Sunday. 🔥 I love this picture from several years ago when in Sunday school Shelton learned about Pentecost with a red streamer symbolizing the Holy Spirit. On Pentecost Sunday we celebrate God’s gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the Father’s gift of the Holy Spirit, from whom they would receive power to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:3-8). After Jesus’ ascension to heaven, the men returned to Jerusalem and joined together in prayer in an upper room. On the Day of Pentecost, just as promised, the sound of a violent wind filled the house and tongues of fire came to rest on each of them and all were filled with the Holy Spirit. After the coming of the Holy Spirit, the disciples did not stay in the room basking in God’s glory but burst out to tell the world. This was the beginning of the church as we know it. Today as disciples it is our job to spread the good news of Jesus and internal life through Him🔥 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. n one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit”. She asked me a question today that I don’t think I have ever asked anyone. She gave me an answer with the confidence I wish for everyone to have. “Hey mom, you know what I love about myself?” I turned and eagerly listened to what she had to say. I want my girls to confidently know what they love about themselves and not be afraid to share it. You can be humble and still be proud of your accomplishments. You can be fiercely competitive and still celebrate your opponent. You can be successful and not be too big for your britches. Caitlin Clark proved that you can lead in points scored and points assisted. Girls are often told to downplay their achievements to not appear full of themselves. You can love things about yourself and be fully aware of areas you need to improve in. And those can also be the same thing. I want to know what people love about themselves. I think we should be just as willing to talk about our strengths as much as our weaknesses. I had Lyla at 21, and I had no idea how to be a mother. I still don’t know how to be a mother, but I’m so thankful for these moments with her. There are so many voices coming at our girls on a day in and day out basis, sometimes it’s hard to know where to start or what to say. I fight the temptation feeling like my words or prayers are so small; will my lone voice in my girls’ lives really make enough of a difference for them to stay on the path of loving and following Jesus Christ? But church - we have to keep speaking. We have to keep praying. We have to keep fighting for our kids, perhaps now more than ever. If I get one consistent request from women, it’s this - please give us resources for our daughters. So I want to know - what resources do you wish you had? What topics do you want help talking to them and to their friends about? What Bible studies do you wish you had in your hands to help their hearts flourish? I am listening, and I want to be a part of the health and healing of this generation. I can’t do it alone; but we can do it together. So what is worth fighting for for them?
