I'm thrilled to share this week's episode of the PCOS Repair Podcast. Meet one of my clients Harper, who discovered her way to address her PCOS symptoms to finally live free from PCOS. Although nutrition was a cornerstone of her success, her journey is about much more than the diet itself; it's a broader lesson on how we all need to navigate health challenges by catering to our unique bodies. Despite facing a tough battle with PCOS, Harper also had an autoimmune condition that affected her skin and GI system. These conditions were significantly relieved through a plant-based diet. This did not however work well for her PCOS and she was struggling to find a balance of health between her two conditions. Her story in today’s episode shows that personalizing your approach to nutrition and health is essential. I hope you find it as inspiring as I do. To listen click the link in my bio. Happy listening!

We live in a stressful world okay!!😖 Keep scrolling to read more about why these tips can help keep your cortisol levels where they need to be! ☕️No coffee on an empty stomach: Caffeine increases cortisol, and this process intensifies when there is nothing in your system to delay the caffeine absorption. I recommend either holding off coffee until after breakfast or adding a scoop of collagen and MCT oil if you drink your cup of joe before breakfast. 📱Limit screen time 1-2 hours before bed: It has been shown that the blue light coming from our technology makes our eyes (and therefore our brain) think it is still daytime and therefore increases cortisol production. Limiting screens before bed can help keep your brain in relaxation mode. 🥱Wake up at the same time (even on weekends): Our bodies love and thrive off of routine. When you wake up at different times during the week versus on the weekends, you are essentially jet-lagging yourself come Monday because you have told your body that sleeping in is your new normal wake-up time. 🧘🏼‍♀️2 deep belly breaths before eating: Start by closing down your eyes, placing one hand on your chest and one hand on your belly, breathe in through your nose for 4 and breathe out for 4. Try to just feel the movement in the hand on your belly 🥩Consume adequate protein: Protein is an essential macronutrient. If our body doesn’t get enough from the foods we eat, it will start to tap into our body’s own stores (muscle mass). Consuming enough protein for your body will help preserve muscle, our body’s organ of longevity! 👟Move for 5-10 minutes after meals: Movement after meals helps to balance blood sugar levels. When your blood sugar levels are imbalanced, it causes a spike and drop in blood sugar levels. When blood sugar levels drop, cortisol rushes in to save the day. These tips are only a few of the things we can do daily to keep cortisol levels stable. Make sure to save this post so you can try a few of the tips for yourself!!📥

😊👋🏻 I have noticed a few new followers on my page recently so thought I would do a little intro to let people know who I am and what this page is about. I live in the UK and have a lovely little dog called Skye and this page is really for me to share my wellness journey, inspire and be inspired to create beautiful wholesome food that is healing and not poisoning my body. I have done every diet under the sun and throw no shade at any of them, you do you. I have PCOS and Psoriatic Arthritis and have been a serial yoyo dieter all my adult life, and at the start of this year I vowed to change my life for good! I am now in a really comfortable place with my diet, I do not eat refined sugar and I stay away from UPF as much as possible. I am learning to fall in love with food again, from purchase to plate and finding a deep passion for cooking real food! I don’t ‘diet’, count calories or follow a plan any longer ( I have done in the past) and I now feel at peace around food - instead of always being controlled by it. I am losing weight easier and more sustainably than ever before and have never felt so happy and healthy! I have noticed huge improvements in my conditions and genuinely feel like I am in the right path for me! This page will document my journey as I navigate this new way of living and discover what wellness means for me. I am not going to preach about how I think you should live your life, just share my thoughts, journey and discoveries in case it helps you in any way and if not.. that’s ok too! There will be some travel and lifestyle thrown in, with lots of positivity! I hope you stick around, it’s lovely to have you here! 🌷 . #hey #hiya #welcometomyworld #welcometomypage #whoami #welcome #wellness #wellness #catchup #whoaminow #change #happiness #lifejourney #pcos #pcosuk #pcosgirl #pcoslife #pcoslifestyle #psoriaticarthritis #autoimmune #healthyfood #realism #food #travel #noupf #nutritionjourney #comewithme

Hello 270’s! 😮‍💨 I’m very focused these days, eating healthy has definitely become a habit vs a challenge. Protein is my main priority and I’m practicing intermittent fasting, 12-14hrs just kinda depends on the day. I see my nutritionist on Wednesday and I’m excited to show him my progress. I’ve mentioned before, check with your insurance, dieticians are usually covered 100% on most plans! It’s a great way to gain more knowledge about healthy foods, portion sizes, and most important ACCOUNTABILITY🙌🏻 How’s your month going?! Tell me something you are proud about or have accomplished, I want to hear all the good things. Are white carbs bad?👇 You’ve probably heard you shouldn’t eat “white” carbs if you have PCOS. But sometimes white carbs (i.e. white rice) are part of your culture, you have gastro-intestinal issues and can’t tolerate whole grains, whole grains aren’t always available or you just like the white carb! So when you eat the white carb you feel guilty. But it doesn’t have to be this way. 👉First the facts: In general, the more processed a carb is - the quicker the rise of blood sugar and insulin. In addition, it’s often stripped of nutrients like fiber, vitamins and minerals. Not so good for PCOS. So generally I do recommend whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, faro, barley, whole wheat pasta, lentil pasta, whole grain bread, etc) Potatoes aren’t processed, but I added them to this chart as they are white and have a fairly high glycemic index. 👉BUT “white carbs” can easily fit into a PCOS-friendly diet with a few tricks to minimize the glycemic effect of the carb (this means it will cause the blood sugar/insulin to rise more slowly and not as high) Try these tips: 1️⃣Portion control is most important 2️⃣Adding fat, protein and more fiber (ie. veggies) to the carb 3️⃣For some foods (rice, pasta, potato), cooking it, then chilling it causes the formation of resistant starch, which is not digestible. This has a big impact of slowing the rise of glucose and insulin. And they you can reheat it 4️⃣Eat the protein, fat, veggies first THEN the carbs last. 5️⃣Adding a salad with vinegar can also help 👇Do any of these surprise you?

Tell me it’s not just me 🙈 Something I noticed from continuous glucose monitoring was that my blood sugar balance was much more sensitive the week before my period which explains the intense sugar cravings! This is thought to be down to changes in progesterone post ovulation as higher levels of progesterone reduce our insulin sensitivity. It’s always a good idea to focus on eating well balanced meals containing protein, fibre and healthy fats to help curb the cravings. Also…just eat the chocolate sometimes…after a balanced meal and preferably at least 70% dark 😆 What’s your go to comfort food the week before your period? #pcosmemes #pcosproblems #pcoslifestyle #pcostruths #pcosttcsupport #pcosdiet #pcosnutrition

You often hear me recommending protein with every meal, but what does this look like and why? The balance of macronutrients we have in meals can dramatically impact the overall glycemic index, as well as nutrient and energy content. 🍝Meal 1 - carbohydrate rich meal. This meal combo provides a high amount of carbohydrates with lower amounts of fat and protein. Whilst still providing a good serve of protein, due to the carbohydrate content of the meal, it will give a steeper rise in blood sugar levels. This can be beneficial before a long sporting event where a constant, easy supply of energy is required. To improve this meal, you can add a protein rich source (chicken, beef, etc) and reduce the amount of pasta. *Be cautious of dry vs cooked weight when reading information panels for pasta, it usually doubles in weight! 🥗Meal 2 - protein rich meal. This is an overall really well balanced meal. It has a good combination of protein, fat and carbs and will leave you feeling satisfied for longer. Grams of protein will vary greatly between different size fish fillets but aiming for 25-35g/meal is ideal. This meal will keep blood sugar levels stable and prevent any big insulin spikes (which can increase fat storage). 🥘Meal 3 - fat rich meal. Although higher in calories, this meal still provides a great amount of protein and can be easily adjusted to improve macronutrient balance. Try adding in more vegetables and sticking to 1/2 cup cooked rice. All these meals are healthy choices and have a role within our diet! However it is important to consider the macronutrient balance of meals and how we can improve it. As with most things, variety is key. Eating pasta every night for dinner would likely end up with too much carbohydrates and not enough protein. To learn more about easy, healthy swaps we can do to improve the macronutrient balance of our meals then join my 12 week program!
