Things that damage your NERVOUS SYSTEM and make your PCOS symptoms worse 1. When your blood sugar is constantly elevated it places stress on your nervous system to work harder to create ‘balance’ or ‘equilibrium’ ( the main job of the nervous system). If you blood sugar is not well balanced this also triggers your ovaries to produce more androgens worsening your PCOS symptoms Ensure your meals are well balanced with protein, fats, vegetables and carb (within your carb tolerance) 2. Poor sleep: During sleep our brain undergoes detoxifying and your nervous system is undergoing repair. If you are not sleeping well this will damage your nervous system leading to worsening of your PCOS symptoms 3. Constant worry or overthinking sends signal of ‘ threat’ to your NS which then produces stress hormones which puts a high load on your adrenals making your DHEA-S or testosterone elevated 4. Fast paced lifestyle also makes your nervous system work harder. Some stress is good for us to meet deadlines at work, get things done etc but without downtime your body is constantly activating your sympathetic nervous system which when over stimulated can damage your NS. You need to try to find ways to access the parasympathetic nervous system more often during the day like take short walks, breaks for meals, focusing on breathing, stretching, creating a morning or night routine to unwind and so on. 5. Unresolved trauma places a huge burden on your nervous system. This is because you are unable to create safety within. PCOS is a very common in women who have experience childhood trauma/ PTSD. Tonight’s dinner Duck with hoisin sauce with carrots sweet potato parsnip and brocolli total of 600 calories and 25g protein. Todays workouts have been pretty good so been a bit hungry but busy so not time to eat too much. However the new gym takes leg day to a different level in the hour I was at 24/7 I did Squat with bar ,RDL,pendulum squat,hack squat and glute kickback. Then went to pure gym as had classes booked so did cross trainer ,LBT and pump. You often hear me recommending protein with every meal, but what does this look like and why? The balance of macronutrients we have in meals can dramatically impact the overall glycemic index, as well as nutrient and energy content. 🍝Meal 1 - carbohydrate rich meal. This meal combo provides a high amount of carbohydrates with lower amounts of fat and protein. Whilst still providing a good serve of protein, due to the carbohydrate content of the meal, it will give a steeper rise in blood sugar levels. This can be beneficial before a long sporting event where a constant, easy supply of energy is required. To improve this meal, you can add a protein rich source (chicken, beef, etc) and reduce the amount of pasta. *Be cautious of dry vs cooked weight when reading information panels for pasta, it usually doubles in weight! 🥗Meal 2 - protein rich meal. This is an overall really well balanced meal. It has a good combination of protein, fat and carbs and will leave you feeling satisfied for longer. Grams of protein will vary greatly between different size fish fillets but aiming for 25-35g/meal is ideal. This meal will keep blood sugar levels stable and prevent any big insulin spikes (which can increase fat storage). 🥘Meal 3 - fat rich meal. Although higher in calories, this meal still provides a great amount of protein and can be easily adjusted to improve macronutrient balance. Try adding in more vegetables and sticking to 1/2 cup cooked rice. All these meals are healthy choices and have a role within our diet! However it is important to consider the macronutrient balance of meals and how we can improve it. As with most things, variety is key. Eating pasta every night for dinner would likely end up with too much carbohydrates and not enough protein. Supper was blackened chicken with Alfredo sauce over angel hair zucchini noodles (family has regular pasta), broccoli, and tomato caprese. They also had fresh Asiago crusted cheese bread with theirs.
