If they *have*, it’s never too early to start memorizing which tests are for which types of data. Yesterday year 6 went on their residential and the school was kind enough to let sienna go along on the coach with them we picked her up at 9.30pm but she had the best time! She was gutted she couldn’t stay over for the two nights with them but due to her meds and feeds it just wasn’t possible! The First Day… The first day without Jax at home, after a seizure, is always strange. When he’s unwell, and pretty much most of the time, we snuggle him and we hold him. If he isn’t asleep, he’s in mine or Chris’ arms! He’s usually on a lap or being rocked and squeezed. He’s carried, cuddled and the skin to skin contact he craves is given, constantly. Watching someone you love fight for their life is harrowing, it stays with you. We all need to heal, the cuddling, snuggling and contact helps us all. It tops us up! The time comes when we have to make the world bigger. The realisation that being at home, with only us, isn’t fair to Jax. It makes his world small, and I don’t want that. Letting go, even for a few hours, is hard but necessary. I’m lucky Jax’s school is a few minutes from our house, the communication is brilliant, there are medical staff present at all times. Jax has a lush relationship with his staff at school, and I know they will love and nurter him, keeping him safe. Life is a gift, it’s not promised and for Jax I want every day that he’s well to count. I want him to have experiences, memories, and connections. To enable this, to enable Jax to live his best life I have to let go. Proud of him and me for taking that step today, the getting back to not normal step. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. My face can’t stand any strong UV rays at all! I would get burnt on a half-sunny day here in Northern Ireland, too🥴 Anyways, the aim of this post is to point out that not every ‘nice’ picture you see on Instagram (or other social platforms), is reality! Yes, I am very happy and looked more than joyful on holidays, but really: - I was conscious of how I looked in my bikini. - I was embarrassed of my stretch marks. - I didn’t want anyone to look closely at my face because of how irritated it was. - I had 2/3 panic attacks. - I was utterly drained with the heat, so I took a siesta on most days. - I didn’t eat much over the whole holiday, because I’m a plain eater and like to stick to things I know & love. But, I’m not beating myself up about my feelings because.. it’s normal & totally OKAY to feel all those types of ways. They don’t make you (or me) look silly, seem weird, or look stupid. What do they show? They show that we are all HUMAN. They show we all have our own insecurities and things we overthink about. Gestational diabetes has long been a controversial topic. The controversy is well summarised by an opinion paper that was published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The author pointed out that, "Despite the increasing numbers of women diagnosed, there is little to suggest outcomes are improved." “Evidence‐based benefits from treatment are much less than is generally believed." "While few babies can benefit, all babies treated, particularly pharmacologically, are exposed to potential harm." "All treated babies have their growth and lean mass reduced, which may be detrimental, particularly as the majority are already of normal or small size." "The pharmacological intensification of treatment is not based on sound evidence, is probably unnecessary, potentially harmful, and should be ceased until there is better evidence for benefit and safety." "If parents are not correctly informed about these matters they cannot properly consent to GDM‐related interventions in their otherwise normal pregnancies, and this becomes important if interventions lead to problems.” (Hegarty 2020). I rather enjoy putting together mismatched / asymmetrical earring 'pairings'.
