Mijn laatste post op Instagram was op 22 maart. Ivm drukte en omstandigheden heb ik prioriteiten gesteld. Het fotograferen ging door maar het bijhouden van mijn insta/fb stond op een laag pitje. Quand on est photographe, on se retrouve souvent tiraillé entre capturer l'instant et le vivre pleinement. La naissance de mon fils Deen a été l'un de ces moments où j'ai dû choisir entre la réalité brute qui se déroulait sous mes yeux et le viseur de mon appareil. J'avais décidé de mettre mon appareil photo de côté pour vivre pleinement ce moment unique. Mais la vie, avec son sens de l'ironie, m'a rappelé à ma nature de photographe. Dès le premier cri du bébé poussé, une sage-femme m'a interpellé avec ces mots "wa souwar, souwar" (prend une photo), m'extirpant brusquement de ma torpeur. Tremblant d'émotion et d'anxiété, j'ai sorti mon téléphone de ma poche et pris deux clichés rapides, ignorant toute règle décente de cadrage et d'exposition, puis retournant vivre l'instant auprès de ma femme. Ces deux photos imparfaites, témoins de ce moment magique, ont alors pris vie après quelques clics de souris pour créer cette image parfaite de la naissance de mon fils! Did you know that when a baby is born, they possess an innate ability to find their mother's breast all on their own? It's like a beautiful dance between mother and baby, an instinctive connection that holds numerous benefits for both. 🌟✨ Immediate and continuous skin to skin, with baby placed tummy on your tummy, allows your baby to search for the breast using instinctive movements. The nuzzling helps to boost oxytocin, which is added to by the gentle (sometimes not so gentle) kicks as baby moves their way up toward to nipple. There was no stopping this baby from being born in the kitchen! The birth pool was being filled, mum was labouring like a true power house with such control, but the moment her water broke in the bathroom; there was no stopping it - her body was PUSHING. No time to make it to the birth pool. We made it five steps out of the bathroom into the kitchen and her sweet baby decided it was time to come. Within 2 minutes she was holding her baby. That’s how powerful the Fergusson Reflex / Fetal Ejection Reflex (FER) truly is! FER is the body’s involuntary reflex to push the baby out. There is no stopping it or controlling it. Some compare it to vomiting - you literally cannot stop halfway through. When FER happens there’s no coaching, no counting and no “push against my fingers”. The body has literally taken over requiring no actual “pushing” effort as we see so often. The FER reflex is more likely to happen in situations where the birthing person feels safe, supported & is undisturbed. FER is less likely to happen in a hospital setting due to the natural environment of the hospital & interventions. Birth photography is the art of capturing the moments leading up to, during, and after childbirth.
